About the author

Richard Lederer is the author of more than 35 books about language, history, and humor, including his best-selling Anguished English series and his current book, The Gift of Age. He has been profiled in magazines as diverse as The New Yorker, People, and the National Enquirer and frequently appears on radio as a commentator on language. He has been named International Punster of the Year and Toastmasters International's Golden Gavel winner.

He is the father of author and poet Katy Lederer and poker players Howard Lederer and Annie Duke.

Silly book written in puns and jokes about Halloween creatures. There is a little history about Halloween, but most of it is just fun.
My favorite part:

Baby ghosts are often sent to dayscare centers where they play hide and shriek and peekaboo. Their mothers advise them: "Don't spook until you're spooken to," "Put your boos and shocks on," and "Don't forget to boo-ckle your sheet belt." "Don't forget to say, 'How do you boo, sir or madam?'" If they don't obey, the trans-parents make the little ones ghost stand in a corner.

If you like to find out the origins of words and how they've integrated and evolved in our language - Lederer's the man. I had the pleasure of hearing him speak at a convention many years ago and he's clever, funny and enjoyable to listen to. This is a very quick read and a must for fun and a bit of education...just a bit...
