He has been profiled in magazines as diverse as The New Yorker, People, and the National Enquirer and frequently appears on radio as a commentator on language. Silly book written in puns and jokes about Halloween creatures. There is a little history about Halloween, but most of it is just fun. My favorite part:
Baby ghosts are often sent to dayscare centers where they play hide and shriek and peekaboo. Their mothers advise them: "Don't spook until you're spooken to," "Put your boos and shocks on," and "Don't forget to boo-ckle your sheet belt." "Don't forget to say, 'How do you boo, sir or madam?'" If they don't obey, the trans-parents make the little ones ghost stand in a corner.
If you like to find out the origins of words and how they've integrated and evolved in our language - Lederer's the man. I had the pleasure of hearing him speak at a convention many years ago and he's clever, funny and enjoyable to listen to. This is a very quick read and a must for fun and a bit of education...just a bit...
