A little to graphic for me

It was a cute story and very very short and I had to skim over the intimate scenes because they weren't romantic to me. They were kind of porny! I love the premise of a hero realizing what he's losing and taking steps to fix it and I think this guy did amazing. He was a workaholic and totally neglected his wife. He was actually quite mean to her. I don't know how he didn't recognize that or the fact that they hadn't had a 'playdate' for 18 months! That was a little unbelievable to me but once she says she's leaving that man changes his ways. Again very very short and safe. Free in KU

✔️Decent Novella
✔️Marriage in trouble
✔️Neglected wife
✔️Remorseful Hero- but not really a grovel/but some
✔️Safe
✔️No OW or OM
✔️Celibate during separation
✔️Hero that’s fights to win his wife back
✔️h that’s doesn’t just buckle
✔️Miscommunications

I wanted more from the hero. He was kinda beta to me. He let way to much time inbetween miscommunications and he needed to push harder to win his wife back. He needed to fight harder. He needed to freaking stop letting miscommunication come between them.
He was kinda a douche at times lol.

But overall it was quick w a hit of angst and entertaining

I wanted to like this since my friends liked it, but I guess I wasn't in the right mood for it because I just couldn't take the wife's screeching and her hot/cold attitude anymore. Hero at first was a jerk but he quickly redeemed himself. But honestly, I was just bored. So this is one of those "It's me - not you" cases......

2 ⭐⭐ - Meh!
============

Eighteen months without touching her, forgetting important dates and even Christmas and wedding anniversaries and treating her like a nuisance. Don't ask me to be sympathetic to him. He treated her very badly and after losing her he decided he couldn't live without her and out of nowhere the desire to have sex with her returned. LOL!

“Who treats you like you don’t exist. Who forgets anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine’s day, Christmas. I still don’t understand that one. Your house looked like Santa’s workshop threw up both inside and out. It takes a special kind of stupid to miss that one.”

“What are you doing?” I kiss his chest this time. “I figured it was obvious… I’m seducing my husband.” Scott lets out a long-suffering sigh. “I just want to sleep. Is that too much to ask?” “No—” He cuts me off before I can say more. “Good,” he says as he rolls over turning his back to me.

Zack and Jen have been helping me move my things to Zack’s place all week, and Scott hasn’t noticed. Not that I’m surprised.

“Eighteen months. You haven’t touched me in eighteen months.”

This was a fast pace i had some tears in my eyes book.

Mallory has had enough, her husband for 5 years (but then said 3?? So idk im go with 5) has been neglecting her for almost 18 months.. they still see eachother for dinner, light kisses, and i love yous. But missing anniversary and the connection between them.. she feels her husband has fallen out of love so she tells him she's moving out and wants a divorce. That snaps Scott out of his workaholic mode he didn't even realize he was neglecting his wife and now he's trying to do everything in his power to keep her, date nights, video sex calls and talking helps him win his woman back one day at a time. Scott earned some points from me that he pushed hard to get his wife back he owned up to his mistakes and when he finds out why he pushed her away he tells her and that starts a whole other drama since she was about to tell him something huge. But that doesn't make him give up he won't lose his wife.. and he's going to show her he is in it forever.

I did get annoyed with Mal for keeping that secret from him even if that was also a miscommunication on her part for hearing what he said.

Angst, no cheating, no ow/om, sexy times, secondary charas, no virgins

I love married couples! Hero is a workaholic and his wife is not impressed. He treats her like crap lately and she is not having it anymore. She is moving out and she is asking for a divorce. Hero realizes he is about to lose the love of his life and is determined to grovel and fix the mess he created. Heroine is one tough cookie though.

Wow! loved the angst and drama. Heroine was a bit too stubborn in my opinion but hero stopped at nothing to prove to Mallory that he isn't willing to let her go.

Safe read. Both celibate during separation, no other man or other woman drama and cute epilogue 5 years later with 2 kids and pregnant heroine.

ugh...i needed more about their past.. how they meet and fall in love..
we jump right into it with them being in a bad marriage
i honestly can't believe that the last time they were intimate was 18 months prior...like how?? wtf?? i can't concept and accept it, i'm sorry, especially when it wasn't like that before...just meh
The reason he was pulling away, again wasn't good enough for me, even more so that he had to think really hard of the why and when that happened ..
At the end of it, i didn't like her pushing him away, there was no need, i hated all this miss communication

Short read following a couple in a troubled marriage. Mallory and Zack have been married five years and hit a funk. Zack is completely OBSESSED with work, and has pulled away from Mallory. At the start of the book, he forgets their anniversary and it’s the last straw; Mallory, tells him she wants a divorce and moves out, giving Zack the wake-up call he needs.

The rest of the book is mostly Zack kissing her ass, and trying to woo her. It’s sweet for a while, but then started to drag for me. There’s a conflict about ¾ in that was a bit too much for me. It started to feel immature and was based on a ridiculous miscommunication. Overall, decent quick read if you have the patience to wait out the stubborn h. :) Totally safe, no cheating, ow shenanigans of any kind.

Bottom Line I recommend this for readers that love groveling, because there is a TON of it. There’s a nice epilogue 5 years out. It’s free to read w/ KU.

Reread 4/8/2022… liked it more on the reread.

She’s still sweet and he’s still an idiot, and really there’s nothing new here. She does a good job getting his attention; he’s focused on her, some angst… HEA with a nice epilogue.

Sweet wife, idiot husband. Nothing new here.

Dang, did we seriously need all the feels? Yeah, clearly we did

I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t cry. I did, however, get a little misty a time or two. This completely safe second chance/marriage repair story was gritty in how real it hurts when things just go awry in an otherwise loving relationship. And how much aching work it takes to fight to reclaim a HEA.

Kinda spoilerish info ahead-

No cheating, or drama with OW/OM, no addictions, no betrayals. Just the day to day overwhelming moments that pile up to build a wall between you and your happily ever after. Only in this story, we have a husband and wife who are fighting for their marriage. Even when it looks like she’s walking away, our heroine is truly just standing her ground and demanding the kind of marriage we all deserve. For those of you who, like me, love to see a man give good grovel, this is your book. It’s so very, very good.

This is a "marriage in trouble" story. Every single problem they had could have been solved in approximately 10 minutes of conversation combined. I never believed or understood the reason he stood he started pushing away.

Meh

I had to reread this book in order to write a review because I remembered nothing about it. Not a good sign considering I had read it for the first time just a few weeks ago. It’s a short story at around 100 pages so a quick reread wasn’t a big deal. I have a feeling I’ll forget everything about it again about 5 minutes after I finish this review.

It’s well written, let’s start off with that. I don’t remember a bunch of grammar or punctuation issues.

Aaaand that’s about all the good I have to say about this book.

I really like the marriage in trouble trope but I don’t want to read about cheating in a marriage so I thought this one sounded promising. Unfortunately, everything that could have been angsty and interesting was completely glossed over or never addressed.

SPOILERS:

So the gist of the story is that Scott and Mallory have been married for 5 years. They’ve enjoyed a hot and heavy relationship since the beginning, except for the last 18 months when Scott has become a distant workaholic who won’t even touch his wife and acts like her very existence annoys him. He’s missed holidays, birthdays and now he’s missed their anniversary again. How can you not remember Christmas?? That’s where it would have ended for me but apparently Mallory wasn’t as quick as I would be to kick the asshole to the curb.

Anyway, the forgotten anniversary and then completely brushing off her sexual advances was the last straw and Mallory tells Scott she wants a divorce and moves out to live with her gay best friend.

This immediately gives Scott the kick in the balls wake-up call that he needed and he’s all in on trying to win Mallory back. He changes things at work so he’s more available and he starts taking her out on dates and just being more attentive in general.

For her part, Mallory is thrilled about being back on Scott’s radar and is loving the attention but she’s still wary because she doesn’t know why he pushed her away in the first place. Scott doesn’t know either until he has an aha moment while out with a few of his friends who are bemoaning the trials and tribulations of having young kids.

He realizes that what triggered him was he and Mallory had discussed trying for a baby but at the same time, he came up for a promotion at work that could be really good for the family. He didn’t feel like he’d be able to commit properly to the extra work that came with the promotion while also dealing with a newborn. So instead of talking to his wife about his concerns, this jackhole just completely pushes his wife away and doesn’t touch her FOR 18 MONTHS!!

Mallory is way more patient than I am because after month 3 I’d be convinced he was cheating on me and would have forced a confrontation. Luckily, there is absolutely no cheating in this book. No OW/OM drama. Scott really does love his wife and doesn’t want anyone but her. Same with Mallory, they see no one else but each other. That is literally the only saving grace for this dumbass, the fact that there is no hint of him even looking at another woman during this time.

Ok, so back to the story….at the same time he’s realizing what happened that triggered him to push Mallory away, she is finding out that she’s pregnant from their one time having sex a few weeks ago while he was wooing her with dates and attention. Before she can tell him about the pregnancy, Scott announces to her that he now knows what happened and tells her how he pushed her away because he didn’t want a baby while he was trying to focus on the promotion. Now, the jackass doesn’t go on to reassure Mallory that he actually does want a baby with her. No, he just leaves it at that, thinking she’ll be happy because his reason had nothing to do with him falling out of love with her or anything that can’t be overcome. Mallory on the other hand is devastated because she knows this is the end of them. She’s pregnant and he doesn’t want kids (or so she thinks). So she flips out, sends him divorce papers and refuses to talk to him (she still lives with her BFF at this point). She hasn’t told him about the pregnancy yet either.

For 3 months, she avoids him until finally her friends convince her she needs to tell him about the pregnancy. They meet for breakfast and after telling him she’s pregnant, this dumb MFer still doesn’t give the proper response of happiness. No, he sits there silent and dumb and says “I thought you were on the pill?”. Now, in his internal monologue you can see that he is very happy about her being pregnant, he’s just stunned and hasn’t gathered himself yet. But his lackluster response just confirms to Mallory that he doesn’t want a baby and that their marriage is over. She flips out on him and tells him it’s over and to sign the divorce papers.

It takes 3 more weeks for Mr. Stupid to come up with a way to prove to her that he actually does want to be a father (with the help of Mallory’s other BFF because of course he just sits there like a lump of shit and basically stalks her but doesn’t actually do anything to tell her that it was all a misunderstanding).

He does his grand gestures (not very grand), they make up, blah blah blah and the epilogue is 5 years later with 2 kids and another on the way.

OK, that all sounds not bad, right? Well, like I said before, nothing is ever really addressed or talked about. They go on multiple dates and she never even says anything to him about the actual issues. I mean, she throws a couple barbs out at him sometimes but for the most part it’s all just swept under the rug.

Then, all he has to do is literally just show up for her doctors appointment and she jumps into his arms and all is forgiven. Like….huh? You’re separated for months, I think about 7 months in total and they never really talk about anything and then all is just forgiven? You don’t even talk about the miscommunication issues, why he felt it was ok to push her away for 18 months, why he wasn’t aware of how much he was hurting her, why he just didn’t give a shit about anything but his work for all that time? No talk about how to prevent that from happening in the future. They both obviously suck at talking to each other. Once kids come, your issues get 1000 times worse, not better because you have even less time and energy to focus on each other.

The fact that it was all wrapped up so quickly was disappointing. Why write a story about their issues if you don’t ever even address the issues, fix them or illustrate the feelings that go along with working on things?

Other than being annoyed at Scott’s dumbassery, I had no feelings throughout this story. There could have been so much angst but because the time jumped weeks and months in the future and there was never really any talking or working through their issues, it all just fell so flat.

Anyway, this is a super long review for a 100 page story but I figured I’d better write it all out so that I can remind myself of what the story was about and I won’t have to do another reread.

Not bad. I cant resist second chance stories. This is super short, just a novella really.

The husband is a workaholic and neglecting his wife big time. No OW/ OM craziness, but she has had it, so she moves out ant threatens divorce. This shakes the husband and wakes him up to his neglectful ways.

The rest of the book is him apologizing and promising to change. Plus a lot of hot sex that gets them pregnant. A little bit of angst again because the wife misunderstands and thinks her husband doesnt want kids, but no that gets cleared up and HEA.

3.5-4 stars.

This was one of those reads where I read it at the right time. I didn’t want to put it down and I was enjoying what I was reading but if I had read it at any other time, I would probably give this a 2.5-3 stars.

So Claiming His Wife starts with the hero and heroine’s anniversary (I don’t remember their names, sorry!) and the heroine is waiting for her husband, sends him a couple of texts messages and asks when he’s coming home but he is instantly annoyed and rude to her. Basically, says to stop nagging him, he’ll be home when he’s home. We find out that this isn’t a one-time occurrence and that this has become the norm for their relationship. He’s forgotten birthdays, holidays, and things he found cute at the beginning of their relationship is now annoying him. And on top of everything else, he hasn’t touched his wife sexually in 18 months. The heroine has had enough.

I really wanted a marriage in trouble story, which this was, and the husband had to fight his way back to get his wife back, which again, this was. However, I didn’t find it very believable how quickly he changed his tune. Once the heroine left him, he immediately switches back to the guy he used to be in their relationship, it was just too sudden and it made me question how long that would last.

However, I did love that the heroine made him work for it. She didn’t just come back home after one or two dates or a good evening with him. She was fairly firm in her decision to not go back to him right away.

But, the ending conflict, where she stops talking to him and not communicating, did bother me. She should have just asked a couple of questions, asked for clarification and she wouldn’t have caused this new heartache.

This was a quick read that hit the spot but I recommend waiting until you’re completely in the mood for something like this.

Honestly, I'm a little disappointed with this book. I loved the angst in the beginning, but Mallory got on my nerves with her token clumsiness and just her general character. I know this is a short book with page-count limitations, but I wish that Mallory and Scott hadn't gotten intimate so quickly. It was good to show Mallory and the audience that they still desired each other, but it felt like it erased some of Mallory's credibility, if that makes sense. She had every right to hold out on him until she felt like he was worthy, but I think she folded too quickly. Or maybe because the story was so condensed, the timeline of the story and the sudden time-jumps didn't let me settle in enough. I don't know, and I don't care anymore. I didn't even read the epilogue because I just didnt care enough about the characters to find out.

The writing itself wasn't too bad and Scott's re-development was relatively satisfying, so my dissatisfaction is mostly on me being picky and always looking for a better grovel. Two stars is a pretty average rating for me, so for everyone out there that over-rates books and leaves vague reviews, you can think of my rating as ~4 stars.

No, just no

Your husband ignores you for 18 months. Works late, no sex, no affection, forgets your birthday, forgets your anniversary and when you FINALLY decide to call it quits, then he realizes what he’s done??? Aw hell no! I finished the book but really could not care how he felt.

What I liked: I liked how Mallory(h) stuck to staying with her best friend instead of going back home with Scott(H). Making him work for her forgiveness was nice.

What I didn’t like: Scott ignored his wife for a year and a half and he doesn’t realized why he did that was a little off for me. When he remembers it’s because he wasn’t ready for a baby, ok so let’s treat the woman you love like crap because you can’t communicate that you don’t want a baby yet. To me it was a stupid reason.

***Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: H and h are married and for the last year and a half the H has been ignoring the h and treating her rudely. h finally has enough when the H forgets about their anniversary and when she tries seducing him, he tells her he is tired and to leave him alone. h moves in with her best friend and H realizes how much he has been ignoring his wife and decides to fight for their marriage. h makes him work for it. H definitely does all he can by not working late and spending lunch time with the h. h later finds out she is pregnant. When she goes to tell the H, he finally remembers why he was treating her rudely which was because she wanted a baby and he thought he did too until he was up for a promotion at work. H knew it wasn’t the right time for him. Of course, he tells the h this before she tells him she is pregnant. h runs from the H telling him she wants a divorce. 3 months later she agrees to a lunch date after her friends tell her she is being just like the H by not communicating. h tells him she is pregnant and he is in shock and she takes that as he doesn’t want the baby. H is happy about the baby and makes sure he is at the doctors appointment, he also redoes his office into a nursery. h forgives him when he shows up at the doctors. HEA

Descriptive Sex: Yes

Final thoughts: This was an ok read for me. I liked that it was a short quick read.

The couple: Scott and Mallory

Romance genre:
Length: 106 pages

Plot: Mallory used to think she had the perfect husband, but he's not the same man she married. He's distant and dismissive, and he hasn't touched her intimately in 18 months. The last straw was him forgetting their anniversary, staying late at work, and then getting mad when he did come home. She's done. She still loves him but she can't live this way. She moves out and when she tells him, he is completely blindsided. He didn't seem to know there even was a problem. He does everything he can to win her back, but will it be enough?

Commentary: Normally I like this author a lot more, but this hero just rubbed me the wrong way.

But was this a HEA? Because the author said so? I don't believe it. I mean, I guess, but I'd call it a HFN because with that jerk as the hero, I don't think it will last.
