This is an easy reader's introduction to the life and work of comic, director, actor Jordan Peele.

The book includes a brief description Peele's childhood and then his work in various venues in the entertainment industry. He has worked in comedy clubs, on television, and in films in front of the camera and behind the camera.

His film Get Out broke some notable barriers about race in horror films.

The back matter includes a quiz, glossary, additional sources (To Learn more), and an index.

I can see readers ages 9 to 12 being ideal for this book. (But I learned some new things about Peele by reading it!)

Seeing a picture book bio of a modern-day (and truly benevolent) comedian and horror filmmaker is pretty refreshing/brilliant.

The large print is fantastic/accessible, and somehow makes the heavy subject matter more digestible. Meaning Clinch communicates how groundbreaking Peele is (educating on anti-racism by making us bust a gut laughing), but in a succinct format that will engage reluctant readers.

Though honestly - to not mention the Mr. Garvey sketches? Readers got robbed!

Not an educator, but as a nerdy helicopter parent, I'd suggest reading level is closer to the younger end of the suggested grade 3-5 range.

Thank you to Focus Readers for sending me the review copy of this book in my capacity as a Cybils panelist.

Of the several titles in this hi-lo, nonfiction series, this has the highest degree of readability and natural appeal for young readers. All are quite good, and feature short chapters, excellent photography, and traditional text elements (table of contents, back matter, etc. as well as some content questions). This, though, includes multiple hooks related to pop culture, theater/movie/television appeal, and an irresistible focus figure. This also celebrates Peele's curiosity, drive, collaborative approach to creations, and a solid confidence without bravado.
Recommended.

This was on display at work (lol), so I picked it up and read it. It's a good and basic biography of Jordan Peele for kids.
