3 Stars ~ From the time she turned 18, Kate had worked with her father in their exclusive London department store, working her way up from clerk to second in command. Having turned 25, her father's worried that she's missing out on marriage and family, but Kate is more than satisfied with the work she does. Charles has also been groomed for years by her father, and he's asked Kate to marry him. Not being in love with him, she tries to put him off. When Kate's appendix ruptures and she develops peritonitis, she becomes gravely ill. Her recovery is incredibly slow and the doctor's order her to take a long and slow cruise, which her father is anxious to take with her. When the cruise returns to the coast of France, she's ordered to take an extended holiday. Finally recovered and about to return to London, Kate receives and urgent call, her father has suffered a massive stroke, and has been left speechless and paralyzed. She also learns that the store has been failing and is on the brink of receivership. The Board of Directors and the lending Bank have hired a man to step in and help them return the store into the black. Kate resents Marcus' from the moment she meets him, but he's not to be put off. Slowly Kate comes to realize that Marcus only wants to see the business succeed, even though Charles thinks he's out to make it fail. When Kate begins to investigate just what had been going on while she'd been away, her discoveries only confuse her more, and she doesn't know who to trust.

This was an enjoyable read. Kate is strong woman with a keen business sense, and while she comes to respect Marcus' ability, she resents having to consult with him. Marcus admires Kate, and fully understands how she feels. Marcus has his own secrets that he knows will undermine everything he's working for should Kate discover them. Of course she does and things get even more angsty. There are some silly scenes with the OM and the OW, that keep the tension high. But the truth comes out and Marcus and Kate finally get their HEA.

Ridiculous. The dad has a major stroke and can't talk at all. He is only able to communicate with eye blinks and then miraculously he is instantly cured and begins talking in long complete sentences without any difficulty. So silly. Hero decides he loves heroine at first sight and when he learns she is engaged to OM he immediately begins a sexual affair with OW. So much for true love. In addition he is sure, but still looking for proof, that OM has cheated the business. H is dumb and lets OW maneuver him into a proposal. But miracles are still in the making because he finds out at the zero hour that OW is sleeping with OM. So we arrive at the HEA.

3 Stars are only for Kate.
Rachel Lindsay aka Roberta Leigh, I always thought that she hate her heroines and love her OWs. Her OWs has much sexual power over the Hs. They alwasy have much more deep feelings for the OWs than the hs. I don't see HEA for any of her hs in future, I would bet that Hs HEA rest in the OWs. I don't know why she didn't turn her OWs in hs, but I guess in a way she did, because you can see who has the upper hand and power over the Hs. The Hs weakness are always the OW and never the hs. They always love the OWs because they are so in lust with them.
At the beginning I was thinking that Marcus was a true alpha and honored man that I could respect unlike many of RL's Hs, soon I dissipated my opinion, he is like all her Hs, easily twisted around the OW little finger.
He always took the OW side, hell even the idea that Kate had, the OW stole it, and when the h told him, he didn't believe and still credited to the OW. Why? Kate raised in the business while the bitch just worked in the fashion before.
He was despicable and distasteful while pursuing the heroine he was sleeping with the OW until the very end. Not only that he got engaged to her until to the very end. Do I supposed to believe that he loved the heroine while he has deep feelings for the whore?
He didn't even break off with the OW and try to pursue the h, when it was found out that the OM was stealing from the firm and the h's and OM's engagement breaked off. Marcus was so weak about the OW, hell he even HIT and PUNCHED the OM because of the OW, not because of the heroine, I never see any sign of rage or jealous towards the heroine but he went ape for his precious OW. The end of her books are always rushed, RL have no time for the hs HEA, but have many time pages regarding the H and the OW. We didn't even see the scene when he broke off with the OW, and the despicable try to explain that he was human for having sex with the OW. You can see how easily and pleasurable he find in the OW charms, not only sex, he always had a soft spot and deep feelings for the bovine cow. If the OM didn't tell him that his precious slut was sleeping with him he would have happily married to the cow until the end of his days and he deserved the OW, they deserved each other, and he deserved to have a cheating slut for wife.
I don't think that is a great gesture that he bought the h's necklace back to her, after all the things he gave to the OW all these years. If the h's collection that were sold was the OW he would have bought the whole collection back to the OW. I bet that he still will support the luxury style of the OW in the future until the end.
What poor Kate got are leftovers with an unworthy H, as always RL's Hs are unworthy. It boils by blood.
