Now that Derek knows the truth, everything is out in the open. He still wants to be with me. But I’m afraid this is temporary. I’m afraid he’ll change his mind. I’m afraid he’ll realize he’s not up for the task. And I’ll lose both him...and my job.
Wow Derek is about to explode! What an ending! I totally agree with his reaction to his ex-bestfriend Kevin, and his ex-fiancee Tabitha. Why couldn't they just leave him alone like he asked? They deserved all that anger and aggression he showed them. After what they did to him. How dare they want to confront him for forgiveness?! But Emerson...She should have told him about the shared documents. I knew he would be angry 😠, but his reaction💥totally nuclear. I think Derek is on the verge of a total break down. He needs to just go away somewhere by himself for awhile to regroup. He was so happy with Emerson and Lizzie. I thought he was going to pop the question any minute. I like how he started spending time at Emerson's apartment. But I didn't like how he used her toothbrush, totally unsanitary😝YUCK!!!! I could have done without that part. Whatever happened to his Uncle and Grandmother? They weren't there with the family at the cabin, for Thanksgiving. They usually spend holidays together. It's like they just disappeared. Derek's brother Dex, seems like a force to recon with. I hope he gets his own story too. Now we have to wait until next year to find out what happens between Derek and Emerson, why oh why?!😥. I really do love this series. Cannot wait to see what happens at Ryan and Camille 's wedding. Oh almost didn't mention how Derek went off on Lizzie's math teacher Mr. Franklin. That was priceless. He was like a lion protecting his cub. I loved it. Derek is going to make a great father someday. Now I have to wait to find out.
I loved it just as much as I’ve loved the other books in this series. However, Derek needs to remember just how much he’s lied/omitted to tell Emerson! He didn’t tell her that Cleo is his stepmother and has never spoken to her about what happened with Tabitha. This part of the story sent me through a range of emotions with the rocket, his relationship with Lizzie, his reconnection with his parents and Ryan and Camille’s impending wedding. I couldn’t put it down.
This is a book of transition and at the same time it’s also a reverting back to what behaviors we don’t want to refresh. There’s so much positive momentum going for Emerson and Derek – we see that she’s able to bring him out of his shell, bring him back to life and give him something to be better for. Emerson has opened herself up to Derek in a way that she wasn’t planning to even explore until her daughter Lizzie was out of the house, so that adds a layer of complexity but also a layer of joy.
The bulk of this story is around the development of Emerson and Derek’s romantic relationship and what that means for their present and future. We know that Derek has never wanted kids and is quite awkward around them (in his mind) but that causes a problem for Emmy as we know that Lizzie is her whole life and it’s not something that she’s willing to compromise. When Derek learns about Lizzie, and then opens his mind to the notion of having some type of relationship with her, we have hope.
What starts as a relationship between tutor and student evolves into a friendship. There’s a comfortable and safe dynamic there because Lizzie doesn’t yet know the role that Derek plays in their life and that’s a space that makes everyone more comfortable. Derek raises Lizzie’s confidence, he makes her realize that anything is possible and that she’s got someone who’s going to watch her watch her back. He defends her to her teacher and in that, he’s got a friend for life.
That evolves into his family taking a liking to her – and once it becomes clear to Lizzie that Derek and her mom are more than just friends, we get a quick progression to seeing the entire Hamilton family take Emerson and Lizzie in as their own. Happy ending right?
Nope
The other side of this story is the one where Derek is back to his old ways. He’s stressed with work, trying to finish a rocket that they’ve designed and do the test launch. He’s still troubled by Odessy and that’s a nightmare that bothers him every day and on every project that he does. He’s working through a Mars Rover plan and continues to find challenge after challenge with it.
On top of that, he learns that his best friend Ryan is getting married and has been asked to be the Best Man. A happy time for most, however it also means that he’s going to have to face Kevin and Tabitha as they’ve stayed friends with Ryan and his fiance, and we all know that isn’t going to end well for anyone. Derek still holds such anger and rage towards both of them that ten years isn’t enough to let it go. We watch each interaction with Kevin bring more and more anger in Derek, and that means that he starts to push Emerson away.
We see Derek struggle on the anniversary of his mother’s death – a death that he carries guilt over because he left an angry voicemail that she listened to the morning she died which may or may not have caused her to have a heart attack. Then we see the rocket explode, and that pushes Emerson away. Add to that anger and mood, Derek realizes that Emerson had read something that he wrote and kept it a secret, something that he deems to be a lie, and well, the world that we were enjoying throughout this seventh installment gets flipped upside down.
Everything we hoped for is no longer viable. Every moment that we thought was precious and an opportunity for the future is now gone. Hearts and souls are broken, and there’s really no path to redemption.
This book left me in a bad mood and now I have to wait until January for the conclusion and I am praying to God none of my favourite characters dies. I can't handle it! This is too damn stressful.
What plagued me the most while reading this is the fact that I would have to wait two months for the conclusion. As such, I kept savouring each page and I don't know if I fully immersed myself like I did in the past. I was more worried about the looming deadline.
Conversations of Valerie's abandonment came full circle because Deacon was right. Derek is hell a traumatised from Valerie moving on with Jake. I also appreciate the rocket conundrum because it made for the perfect climax of all the insecurities and issues that formed the base of this story.
Seems I was wrong about Fleur because, besides a couple of mentions, she was a no show. It's refreshing to be wrong as the author creates a different drama for Derek than Deacon. Also, his is way late in the game and the way back to domesticated bliss will certainly be a struggle.
Now let's call a spade a spade. I don't know the pressures of being a Rocket Scientist but that is no excuse for how much of a dick Derek was in this novel. I believed that Emerson deserves better.
In other words, I don't like when mommy and daddy fight.
I love Lizzie and the youthful exuberance she brought to this book. We got to spend more time on Emmy's side of the fence and it was equal parts awkward and entertaining. You just never knew what would happen day to day with these three.
We finally meet Dex and Daisy, I assume we will get their stories one day but for now, I just REALLY want the next book in this novel because I have gotten spoilt to accessibility and that cliffhanger is more than my unstable emotions can handle right now. Is it January yet?
From the cliffhanger at the end of the previous book, I knew this book was gong to be devastating for Derek and Emmerson. There are some great highs in their relationship and one fantastic confrontation at Lizzie's school. There are several awful moments, where Derek is pushed beyond his breaking point.
Even though Derek swears that he is not loving and sensitive, like his mother Chloe, he proves that he is many times over the course of this book. Emmerson is still the upbeat guiding angel in Derek's everyday life. The actual introduction of the despicable duo (Kevin and Tabitha) bring about the horrible cliffhanger that will leave you wishing the next segment were available NOW.
Great writing and fantastic characters. Absorbing story. Lots of "what the heck just happened" moments. Just grab this series and be prepared to ask to no disturbances until you are finished.
Another great book by Victoria Quinn. Derek and Emerson finally admit their love for each other and begin to move the relationship forward. Derek meets Lizzy and begins a tutoring relationship that quickly blossoms into a mutual respect for each other. Smooth sailing until Derek is thrown into a situation where he has to deal with Kevin, as things escalate Derek finds out that Emerson has read the book on his computer that he was unaware he was sharing with her . Old issues arise and Emerson and Derek's relationship is put into Jeopardy. A great read, a great series, and a great author. Highly recommend this series.
This book was amazing! We finally get to see Derek and Emerson finally admit their feelings for each other! Derek and Emerson are faced with multiple issues and I feel like they always come back to each other because they ground each other out. Derek has past issues with trust and when an issue arises he shits down and pushes everyone away including Emerson. The relationship Derek has with Lizzie is so cute and I love how he always encourages and pushes her to be the best she can! I can’t wait to see if Derek and Emerson can work past their major issue or if Derek will shut her out completely.
Have mercy! This series is keeping my heart in turmoil in the best kind of way! Ms. Quinn creates her characters to envoke the strongest emotions from her readers. This book is a definite 5 star read! Derek and Emerson finally acknowledge how they feel for each other. Just when you think you know where this story is going...you don't. When the exs and secrets come back into play in their lives will they survive as a couple? Can love conquer all? How much is too much? Read the must have series and book and discover the answers! I can not wait for more!

I finally managed to get a chance to read this next instalment. I haven’t moved since I’ve started reading the first page. I don’t want to go into too much detail but my goodness my heart rate is still beating fast. That ending got me. Emerson is so good for Derek and when he meets Lizzie Emerson’s daughter you start to see a different side to Derek and how he likes the friendship he is holding with her. But Derek can’t forget his pat and his past starts to take over and he finds it hard. This is another brilliant story by Victoria. I can’t wait for the Boy who has no redemption.

I've been stewing for 2 days about the ending of this book. I was so pissed at Derrick for how he treated Emerson, I almost threw my iPad. He accused her of lying and betraying him when the whole time he never came clean about his anger regarding Kevin & Tabitha. If an author wants a strong reaction from their readers, Victoria Quinn has mine in spaids. Now I have to wait for another book to see what Derrick is going to do. I do love a book that can make me feel so much emotion. Until we meet again, Derrick.

I loved this author and first 4 books but was extremely frustrated with the "boy" series. I get broken soul and all that but in 4 book there is about 4 chapters of happiness in this entire series. I know you need angst and heartbreak. But 4 books of grief I got through just wondering what I read and why the writer hated these characters so much. Seriously it has about an hour of happiness. I felt washed out and drained. I am not going to even bother with the last books which is a shame I adored the first 4 books.
I have to admit that this is the best book by far in the series. Things are finally coming together for Derek and Emerson it looks like they're going to get that HEA they deserved. Until tragedy strikes secrets are revealed threatening that HEA. Even though the story does end on a cliffhanger can't wait to see what's going to happen next. As always my review are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
This book continues with Derek and Emerson’s growing relationship. We get to see him slowly engage more and more with Lizzie. We see Derek continue to grow as a person. Cleo and Deacon have some major parts, too. But then bam! The past comes storming back, work doesn’t go well for Derek, and he starts to spiral. The ending gutted me. I was shocked with the outbursts by Derek. I need the next book, The Boy Who Has No Redemption like now!
I have love this series as I do almost all the series written by this author. I do feel the series is drawn out a bit but I do love the inside into the characters and the events and feel it was well worth the read. I didn’t realize there was a book 7 but I did pre-order it. I just wish people could be more open and honest with each other but I also see that even though events can help modify people, there appears to be a basic problem within the person That needs to be directly addressed.
Emerson is pushy, Bossy and too desperate. Derek made some positive changes because of her, but when he asks for some space to think she should have been more understanding, considering where he was coming from. I am absolutely in Derek's court when he confronts Kevin and Tabitha. The story is now looking like history repeating itself. Deacon and Cleo when Deacon told Cleo to get out In anger, and now Derek ending it with Emerson. Oh man here we go
Oh my goodness! How in the world am I going to wait until the next book? Everything was definitely too perfect, but as always, life threw both Derek and Emerson curve balls and they need to figure out how to deal with these things and stay together. Derek especially needs to learn how to control his drastically two sided emotions so they can all have the family they deserve!
Emerson has finally gotten her man and he even has a relationship with Lizzie but then it all goes pop just when you think this will last and there’ll be a happy ending, so many emotions for a man who seems to have none, my heart breaks for all 3 of them because poor Lizzie will be devastated..... fantastic read and so well written, can’t wait for the next book !
An ending/cliffhanger that was so unexpected I still can't put into words how much this book outshined it's predecessors there were a few surprises that only added to the overall impact this story has and a couple areas I did want a little more from but holy cow I can't wait for the next book this author puts out
This book was so fun & different from others that Victoria Quinn has written. I loved the fact that it included Emerson’s daughter, and we got to see Derek meeting her and the great friendly relationship between them, and the relationship progress between Emerson & Derek. The cliffhanger though!! Wish we didn’t have to wait until January for the next book!!

How does this author keep sucking me in? I was on pins and needles reading this book, I just could not put it down. I couldn’t wait to read the next page to see what would happen next. The chemistry between Derek and Emerson was palpable. It was radiating off the pages. But I feel like what made it so much more was their communication with each other. They were able to be themselves. I cannot wait to see what happens next in their story!
An ABSOLUTELY fantastic story. Well-written, in-depth characterization - a deep dive into the people and events of this installment. I did NOT see THAT reaction coming but should have expected the bump in the road. Book 8 - here I come. Thank you for your time, talent and the stories!
A great read but Derek really is infuriating and immature at times. He demands total honesty and perfection from his relationships but is far from that himself. He is even more difficult than his father. Emerson is a saint for putting up with him. I hope he learns a good lesson and fixes up.
Leave it to Victoria to keep you wanting more and going crazy with anticipation. Now that secrets are revealed what will happen to Derek and Emerson. How do you move forward? I need more now! Can't wait for the next book.
Absolutely love this series and its complicated H, first Deacon and now Derek! The cliffhanger absolutely killed me but I knew it was coming and for sure, the axe came down...now I have to wait another month for my HEA *sad face*
Love the series and love Derek's story. Although he much cuter as a kid. Derek was jerk after being hurt by his fiancee. He grew up to be a man with a hard heart. Love his and Emerson's story.
