This was one of my childhood favorites--the artwork and the story, set in New Hamphire, take me back to a simpler world. Written by the 1947 Newbury Award winnerCaroyn Sherwin Bailey (For Miss Hickory), it carries the same mix of fantasy and realism, friendship and fun. Definitely saving this one for my grand daughter :-)

I thought I remembered this one being subtitled "His nine lives and how he spent them" . . .

A happy ending... for a cat that dies nine times over the course of the book.
