This book would make an ideal read or gift for fans of cosy crime who like to work out who dunnit. It’s a cute little reference guide which contains 50 wide ranging recommendations. I particularly liked that there’s a broad selection of old classics and newer titles, and that some of the recommendations are translated works so it has a global feel. 🌏🔪💀⚰️
Like I imagine most readers have, I worked my way through this mini tome expecting to have read quite a few of the recommended books. Turns out I haven’t! I tend to read more grittier thrillers than cosy crime, but I really do love solving a mystery with the author’s clues - is there a better feeling than when you spot the red herrings and guess the right culprit?!
There’s a short blurb about each book and a tiny biography about each author which made the recommendations really interesting. There are also sections at the back for notes, your TBR plans and ratings. I had a few of the recommendations on my TBR already and they’ve definitely moved up in priority since reading about them here.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this title and discovered many books from this genre I would like to read. It covers classic and contemporary titles, bestsellers and more niche titles (including translations). I had read a few of the novels mentioned, and I really appreciate the inclusion of translated titles (as I wouldn't generally pick-up on those, unless recommended by a friend). My reading tastes are eclectic so this is a great book to keep on standby the next time I fancy reading a detective novel.
I really enjoyed this collection of book recommendations. I had only read maybe a quarter of the books he lists. Anderson gives a wide range of mysteries to choose from, and I'd recommend reading through the whole list. I've started doing that, and I have found it to be an absolute blast - and have already found a couple new favorite authors!
This is a fantastic book for mystery readers that haven't read everything. While I have read some of the 50, and have heard of many of the authors highlighted, there were many books and authors that I hadn't heard of. I am looking forward to exploring these titles that are new to me. I found the descriptions intriguing and would highly recommend this book to anyone that likes to curl up with a good mystery! Thanks Eric for writing this!!!
