Great book, loved it. Went in with low hopes following the bad reviews I’d read, but it exceeded my expectations. It’s very genuine and smooth, some things do get repetitive but I feel like it adds to the essence of the book, the parts that were written twice did not make the reading worse but actually emphasized on the living experience. A great man battling a great sickness. Towards the end he is very reflective and raw and vulnerable, which I admired. It’s very hard knowing that he died after reaching a point where he quit every drug, including cigarettes, and in which he was longing to live a long life, I wonder if he fell in love within the time between the release of the book and his death. I wish he could have his little kids he so much wanted. I will never watch friends the same again knowing all he was going through at the time, but I am eager to rewatch friends knowing all the small nuances that were told in the book. It also gave me a different perspectives of approaching addicts. We have been told time and time again that they are not worthy of treatment and that they have inflicted pain upon themselves. But no one gave up on Perry, is it because he was rich and famous ? No one deserves to be abandoned by society.
**on a different note: first book read on my new kindle :) amazing experience 10/10 would recommend!
3.4 Being able to find acceptance of who you are can be difficult for some. Getting to the point and realizing "you are enough" is a positive position to be in. People deal with demons that can't be contained with power, money or fame. I honestly believe we are our own worst critic. Self acceptance is vital in living a healthy life.
Wowza. A true addict. He did a wonderful job of portraying the ugliness of addiction and how harmful it was to him and his relationships. I’m so happy he lived long enough to tell his story. Really liked that he read the audio.
I really wish I hadn’t listened to the audio of this. I adore friends and have loved Chandler since day one. Mathew narrated this book and it was so hard to understand him- He slurred and had difficulty breathing. He is a wreck! And after listening to his story, it is a miracle he is alive- this is one book I wish I had never read. I want to go back to my naive world where all the Friends are perfect people I look up to
As a loving fan of the show friends, I enjoyed the book because I got to know him better. I felt frustrated at times getting know how many times he would relapse, but in the end I was glad that before he passed he finally got to feel gratitude, calmness, & like he was enough. Great read!
Can be triggering to some!

Thank you to Mathew Perry for laying bear some of the agony of addiction. His highly personal memoire actually helps one understand some of the common experiences for people who struggle with drugs and or alcohol. The read is often very sad and hard to believe but the harshness of the account really makes it a good read. The medical crisis that he endured in addition to the addiction made for a very tortured life. By watching Friends we would never had any idea. RIP Matty
I love Mathew Perry and anything that connects with Friends. I didn't know he had to go through all those terrible things. I guess money and fame alone can't really make people feel contented and genuinely happy.
I think the book gives so much power to people who might think or be falling down the path of drug abuse and alcohol addiction giving them more insight on how it can effect them in the long run and how absolutely terrifying it can be for everyone including yourself.
i thought it would be better. i had no idea he had struggled so much - i kinda wished i didn’t read it …i was hoping it would fill in the blanks from the friends reunion show but did not
It’s an honest look at an addict life, he finally found his place in life trying to help people become sober and sadly now he paid the ultimate price for what he done to his body❤️
Watching friends after listening to this book AND after his death just hits different now knowing all what he went throught in his life like i'm shocked about how much of a strong person mathew was like he never gave up and he always fought the "big terrible thing " i am speechless i recommend this specially to big " friends " fans
As a huge Friends fan I really enjoyed hearing from Mathew Perry again. He delivered his struggles and triumphs powerfully. There are some areas that are more rant than good story telling, which threw my focus. Overall I was deeply engrossed in Perry’s amazing and tragic journey.
Great that he is openly sharing his struggle with addiction. More representation is needed. I just hope people don’t scare away from suboxone because of this. It can save lives.
