Please note: I was given a copy of this book and have voluntarily decided to give it this honest review.

After the Roman Empire fell in 476 CE, Europe was plunged into the Dark Ages, and later, the Middle Ages. Ancient ideas were lost and people even forgot how to read and write. When the Renaissance started in Italy certain changes happened. The Gutenberg printing press was invented and enabled books to become cheap enough for the general population to afford. People started to read again and other changes in societies all over Europe started to happen. This book shows how changes in how people started to look at the world also affected philosophy, art, architecture, and education. Monarchies arose, the middle class became established, and philosophies led to the Reformation which split Christianity into Catholics and Protestants. This book explained how all this happened in easy to understand terms. After each chapter there’s an activity to reinforce what was just read. There’s an excellent bibliography in the back of the book, including web sites. This was a great book to show how society was changed forever!

The fascinating thing about the Renaissance is that it looked backward and rediscovered ancient texts while looking forward and studying and practicing modern science. As a result, the changes brought about by the Renaissance revolutionized our lives today. The significant differences were in art, architecture, science, and philosophy.

This book is delightful, with puzzles and quizzes to understand the various chapters. In addition, this book contains essential maps, photos, and illustrations, to help the reader understand concepts and architectural details. It would be best if you look no further for info on how the Renaissance started, how things changed, and who the major proponents of the changes were. This is an excellent book for adults, children, and homeschooling. This ebook is part of a growing series by Captivating History.

The era that changed the world (I think)
How did the world change from the Dark Ages to today's modern world?
This little read book for children (and like myself for adults) introduces the era that is the Age of Enlightenment. How did it start and go? Its most famous representatives and how it all swept across the world.
Really useful and concise essential information. A great summary for those who just want to know about it, but don't want to delve into it yet (makes you want to).

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It is a good introduction to the renaissance and the quizzes at the end of the chapters helps keep the information in mind. I enjoyed learning about this evolutionary period in history.
