3.5 At least for this first installment it's more a dragon shifter story than one about dragon rider and it's definitely YA with the protagonist a 16 year old squire burdened by his late father's legacy and his inability to follow his own expectations. When he and his knight came face to face with a young dragon he soon learns that his father nevertheless had a huge impact on his life. He might not have the fighting power but his sense of chivalry, to do what's right, distinctive even at times when it's not to his advantage.
It's straight-forward and nothing too complicated but the world building is compelling and the characters believable. At times it feels more like a kick-off and there has to be a lot more speed and and drama and more than the easy escapes we're shown in this first book but looking at the epilogue I suppose we maybe can expect that in the next books. Callan's doing-the-right-thing seems more intellectual driven and the author alleviates the emotional struggle to a degree that I'm wondering if that's really the emotional world of a teen.
Then there are also some inconsistencies regarding Zehra and her past. . So in the end this first book is quite nice and promising but too tame.
This was a very nice, straightforward, adventure, dragon book. The writing was pretty phenomenal as well. This just didn’t feel like a 5/5. Maybe since it was predictable and nothing too crazy happened? But, if you’re looking for a calm, short, dragon fantasy, this one’s for you. Also Cailan’s personality is a 10/10.
Zehra is a young girl you would think at first glance. But no she is really a young dragon who is also a girl who was captured and enslaved as a weapon for a Kingdom! A knight's Squire Claim becomes her champion through a tragedy. A sweeping adventure unfolds as Dragon and Squire bound together in a struggle for freedom and purpose! The squire must find a way to free the dragon girl from her magical chains and let her find her own destiny. An enchanting life and death struggle unfolds as a quest with many twists and turns before finding freedom at the end of the quest. This is just the first of a much longer story of adventure filled tale with more to follow.
Too descriptive for my liking. It is a slow book with lots happening in the MMC’s head. I am not a fan of such writing. The story is interesting enough but too draggy for me.
though this is a well written story, I found it a bit naive initially. Jada is well known for her imagination and great writing in fantasy and dragon books. Usually, her stories have a certain maturity which was missing here for most of this first book of the series. I found it rather silly to begin with. Simply because a story is a fairy tale doesn't automatically mean that it needs to read as if written specifically for children. That said, the story is believable as fit for adult reading, even if just barely. It's a fantasy. It is about dragons and I like the new twists. Just be aware that the writing style used through most of this first book in the series, almost ought to start with: Once upon a time, in a land far far away.... However, I am off to read book two.
Cailan Enger wants to be a Knight’s squire and has an opportunity to slay a dragon but instead meets a girl named Zehra Va Domhnall, a dragon shape-shifter that cannot fly from being captured and tortured by humans. Cailan learns that everything is not that easy and he must trust Zehra to survive and become a true Knight. This story follows Cailan and his friendship with Zehra as they set out on an incredible journey that threatens to destroy both worlds. I really enjoyed this amazing young adult fantasy novel.
Very interesting. I got caught after 2/3rd finished and I'm ready for the next books. As an 80 year old Gram to 7 ranging from 17 to 34, they have peaked my interest in Dragons, elves, orcs, goblins, etc. From J. R. R. Tolkien to R.A. Salvatore to Lindsay Broker , Sarah Noffke, and Margaret Weiss, Hickman. I have read everything they have published. I look forward to adding you to the list. Your books are well edited which I put a lot of stock into. I have purchased books, read half and the editing was atrocious. Threw them away. Good work.
I truly loved this novel; especially, since it utilized a totally different type of magic. I truly dislike when tyrants use others to dominate others. It is not the leader's alleged strengths and talents but the evil use of utilizing the evil magic of innocents to dominate and claim for themselves. I have already started the second novel and I still enjoy the mix of characters.
Rescue a damsel dragon 🐉 with a squire and sister knight
A 'simple' case of a few slain cattle leads to a deceptive case of returning a damsel to her family. But the easy path to fame would have been treacherous. The hard, noble path is the only way although a rather hazardous one. The story is a setup for Dragon Unbound. 🐉
Congratulations to Jada Fisher for this book in this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories.
Cailan has a way of bumbling into things. Only this time it is huge! Dragon, traitors, assassins, not to mention the king and knights.
Imagine the story of running with a dragon whose not really the dragon you imagined. Now imagine you are being hunted and there is no place to hide. How can they get ahead of you with the wanted posters?
So different from some of her other dragon books. A young dragon girl who has been imprisoned and used for a century by corrupt kings forced to do as they wanted meets up with a 2nd rate squire who vows to help her return to her people Great story
This was a very interesting and exciting read I have had in a long time. I think that you will have a great time reading this book if you give it a chance. I hope you will try it out and see for yourself what a great story this is.
A simple story. Guy meets girl girl is a dragon. Something horrible happens that binds their fate... the usual tale of honor and courage. But it's fun quick read.
I liked the idea of a small child who could help a girl to get to safety and freedom.Idislike the part where the knight died before he could help the child become a knight and safe the girl,. I would recommend this book to my daughter.
What a fun little story about a would be Knight and a beautiful young dragon in need of his help! I can't wait to read the next book in the series! 😍 I love your writing Jada Fisher and
Great world building. A Squire and a Dragon girl form a bond as they are branded traitor to the crown. The actual reason is totally different. Well written. The plot builds
I am liking this new series! Lots of twists and turns in the plot and somehow feels “real” enough to imagine this could be happening somewhere in this world now.
Interesting characters. I cannot wait to see where this series will go!
Haven't read anything by this author before but love Anne McCartney and the Dragon Riders of Keen so I decided to give this series a try. Looking forward to the next in the series!
A quick flowing introduction to a world of dragons, knights, and magic. Characters are quickly developed and circumstances begin an adventure "to do the right thing." Looking forward to rest of the series
I really like this book very rich characters can’t wait to start the next one very interesting story little slow to get into it but then hit the ground running
