Maysen Jar #2.5

1001 Dark Nights: The Dandelion Diary

Rate this book
From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Devney Perry comes a new story in her Maysen Jar series…

Dear Diary,

My dad needs a girlfriend, and I’ve already picked her out.

Miss Adler would be perfect for him, right? She’s super pretty. She has the best smile and she gives the best hugs. And she’s, like, the most amazing teacher in the world.

Dad is my hero, but I can tell he’s lonely. He tries to hide it from me, but sometimes at night, when he thinks I’m asleep, I’ll sneak downstairs and find him sitting on the couch, staring at nothing. He’s never had a girlfriend, not since the divorce. Mom messed him up. She’s good at that.

He’s smart and funny, but he doesn’t laugh enough. I’ve seen other moms at school check him out so I guess he’s handsome. (Eww.) And he makes up the best nicknames. He calls me Dandelion. I bet he’d give Miss Adler an awesome nickname too.

They're perfect for each other. I just know it. Now I only have to show them I’m right.

Wish me luck.

This was just the cutest. I loved Jeff, Della, and of course our little Dandelion, Katy.

Jeff is a single dad of a middle schooler and his daughter Katy is hoping to change that. She has just the right woman in mind. Her favorite teacher, Ms. Adler. I loved the sweet scheming Katy did to get Jeff and Della together.

Even though this was on the short side, it was adorable, fun, romantic, and overall such a great read! Can be read as a stand-alone, but if you’ve read the other books in this series you’ve already met Jeff :)

3.5 stars rounded up cause sweetness

I enjoyed how adorable this romance was. There is insta-attraction and the H and h feel very at ease with each other right away, but even though that doesn't always work for me, it did here. The H is a single dad who was previously married (but not in love with his ex) and the h is his daughter's English teacher. The relationship with his daughter was precious and I loved the scenes she was in. Both the H and h were very likable and neither was specifically looking for a relationship but were just so drawn to each other. There is a touch of angst about their relationship though because the h can't date a student's parent. No ow drama (H's ex isn't nice and she's on page but not pursuing H), small amount of om drama (h had a crush on a longtime friend who's also her roommate and he's also not the nicest), and neither were virgins (it seemed like both had been celibate for at least a year).

There are a couple of steamy scenes and a mention of some phone/video sex. Even though this is a novella and their relationship is developed quickly, they felt perfect for each other. Then their HEA supports that with an epilogue 11 years into the future that was more sweetness. I esp liked that the author included excerpts of the daughter's diary. I think this was a great book post-vacation for me where I didn't have to overthink anything and just got to enjoy.

”there are no rules against a friendship.”
“and what if i wanted more than friendship?”

⋆౨ৎ˚⟡˖ ࣪ 4🌟

this was such a wholesome novella. parent x teacher is such an underrated trope. i honestly wish we got full novel for these two.💌

”my cheeks flushed as i met his hazel eyes, taking in the swirls of color. the intensity of his gaze only made the blush flame hotter.”

both, della and jeff were instantly attracted to each other. they first kept distance because they wanted to be polite and respectful. well one daynight both of them said to hell with it and started seeing each other and sneaking around. their erotic moments were soSO good, i had great time.🗝️

i’ve really enjoyed the concept of diary and how katy, jeff’s daughter wrote everything in there about them and how she played them both. she is the mastermind. jeff’s reaction in epilogue was so funny. 😂 it’s perfect quick read with so many sweet moments.💌

”what is it about you that makes it impossible for me to shut up?” “i don’t know.” but i liked it. i liked that he confided in me when I doubted he confided in anyone else.”

”the words were barely out of my mouth before his lips crushed mine, his strong arms sweeping me off my feet as he hauled me into his chest.”💌

The Dandelion Diary is a new novella part of the Maysen Jar duet! I was so happy to hear we would be getting another story in this beautiful series and this one was just so sweet and charming. In this we get small town (set in Montana), a single dad hero, and a teeny bit forbidden since the heroine is his daughter’s teacher (and relationships are not allowed between a teacher and her student’s parent)!

This was just adorable! Starts off with a cute diary entry from the hero’s 12-year old daughter Katy; she wants to find her dad a girlfriend and knows her teacher Miss Adler would be the perfect person for him. Jeff and Della meet when he’s called in to his daughter’s class and they immediately feel pulled to one another. But because the school doesn’t allow relationships between staff and parents, they have to try and wait!

Jeff runs a landscaping business and I loved how much he cares for his daughter, his nickname for her is “Dandelion”. We of course do get some appearances of The Maysen Jar cafe and Poppy, Cole and their family (from The Birthday List). Della deals with some drama with her roommate, while Jeff deals with some drama from his ex-wife. I was more invested in the romance and seeing their time together! If you’re in the mood for a quick, sweet, single dad romance, definitely check this one out.

Thank you so much to 1001 Dark Nights and Blue Box Press for an ARC, all thoughts in this review are my own! The Dandelion Diary is out July 11, 2023!

“I don’t know.” But I liked it. I liked that he confided in me when I doubted he confided in anyone else.

A twelve-year-old girl setting up her father with her favourite teacher because she thinks her single dad is lonely and sad, and she knows how great her dad and her teacher would look together? This was so cute and wholesome. Jeff and Della were a perfect match, and Katie is the matchmaker of the century!

5 Jeff and Della (and Katy) Stars

I loved this gorgeous novella (152 pages on my Kindle) which is set in the same world as The Birthday List. Finn from Letters to Molly has long since left Alcott Landscaping with his business passing on to other hands and Jeff is high up in the company doing a job he loves. The story is set in beautiful Montana and has that fabulous small town feel to it. Devney Perry writes a small town romance like no other in my opinion.

Jeff (31/32) has a 12yr old daughter , Katy. He has a difficult relationship with his ex wife , Rosalie. They hooked up once at a party when they were nineteen and when Rosalie told him she was pregnant they got married but there was never any love between them. After a couple of years they split and so Katy goes between them but most of the time she is at her Dad's. Katy is without doubt a Daddy's girl. I loved the relationship and bond between them.

“Can I dye my hair?” Katy asked as I pulled away from the curb.
“No.” Hard no. “You’re twelve.”
“Then when can I dye it?”
“When you’re thirty. The same time you can date.”
“Dad.” She gave me a flat look.
My baby girl, the light of my life, was growing up too fast.

When Katy has a new teacher , Della (Miss Adler) , and Jeff cross paths. The chemistry is there from the very start and I was there for every page.

Great , well written characters, passion, heat, fun and a little heartstring tugging at times.

If you haven't read the other books in the Maysen Jar series it won't matter at all. This book is a strong standalone.

HEA? Yes! A delicious glimpse into the future.
Cheating? No.

I've seen the high reviews 👀😒 so just a quick rundown

Single parent H who meets his daughter's teacher and is instantly attracted to her
h who's loved her best friend and now roommate for years, they slept together once he didn't want more and she's spent all those years after pining for him while he fucked everything that breathed....and she saw it all as she was his roommate. She still pined until she met the H and was instantly attracted to him
Cute kid who played the matchmaker
H was a really good dad
Bit of drama from his ex
Bit of drama from her bestie
HEA

This was just bland.....and painted the h as a stupid doormat from jump🙄

No cheating
H had his kid from a hookup that he married to do the right thing
I can't remember the h's history but she had sex with the bestie about a year previous to meeting the H
Single parent H

Very cute short story in the Maysen Jar series. Full disclosure I didn’t read books 1 or 2 in the series, and I was in no way lost, and will definitely go back and read both. MMC, Jeff, has his hands full with his 11 year old daughter, Katy, and an unreliable ex wife. But when his daughter makes a plan to matchmake him with her teacher, Miss Adler or Della, Jeff can’t deny the sparks fly. Was a lot packed into this short novella, but that just made it unputdownable. Pretty safe in the OM/OW department, though there is a friend/roommate of Della’s who shows interest now that she’s interested in someone else. Typical. A win with me but Devney Perry very rarely disappoints me.

3.75/5 ⭐️ This was just a cute and sweet novella. It has the single dad and small town tropes that I love so much. It was also a bit forbidden since Della is Katy’s teacher.

I enjoyed the romance and the relationship between Jeff and his daughter. Katy was just the cutest! Her meddling was adorable and it had me smiling at times. I loved that she was trying to get Della and Jeff to be together. And that epilogue?? It was so cute!

I didn’t really care for the ex-wife drama though. I feel like every conversation Della and Jeff had, was about her. I honestly think that this would have been better without it 🙄. And Della’s roommate was just annoying af. I couldn’t stand him.

I was glad that Jeff never loved his ex though 👍🏼☺️.

“I’d risk it all, just once.”

The Dandelion Diary is a cute and exciting addition to the Maysen Jar series from author Devney Perry.

From the moment I picked up this book, I was completely intrigued. The first chapter of the story is told by Jeff’s daughter, Katy, who’s writing in her diary, detailing her parent trap-like plans to get her dad to fall for her teacher. From there, we meet Jeff and get to see just how the cards life laid out for him stacked against him. Jeff is a devoted and hardworking father. He would do anything to make his daughter smile and love certainly was the last thing on his mind. But when an unexpected meet-cute with Della Adler happens, all bets are off.

For Della and Jeff, the chemistry is instant and intense. There are many forces moving to keep them apart, and despite their best efforts, it’s impossible for them to stay away. Their journey filled with lots of ups and downs, was worth every single second. And of course, I adored Jeff’s meddling little girl, Katy.

If you’re a fan of the Maysen Jar series, you won’t want to miss this swoon-worthy novella from author Devney Perry. This story had just the right amount of romance, steam, swoon, and drama and I loved every single second of it!

Being back in the world of The Maysen Jar is like getting a warm hug. The Dandelion Diary was perfection in a novella. Jeff’s relationship with sweet Katy, Della’s pure heart, and her budding relationship with Jeff were a joy to read.

4.5 stars!

This is a beautiful short story that is sweet and sexy with a gorgeous love story.

This novella loosely forms part of the Maysen Jar series – Jeff briefly appeared in Letters to Molly, working with Finn at his landscaping company. We also get to visit the Maysen Jar café, and see Poppy from The Birthday List. But the crossover is minimal, and this book can absolutely stand alone.

Jeff is now running Finn’s old landscaping company, and he is a single father who is devoted to his 12 year old daughter, Katy, who he calls “Dandelion” (see what Devney did there?). And it’s Katy who gets things happening in the story when she decides to set her Dad up with her beloved teacher, Miss Adler. She’s a perceptive little thing, because from the first moment they come face to face, I was feeling it.

The attraction is there from the moment that Jeff and Della meet, but given the parent/teacher relationship, they just ignore it. But they can’t stop thinking about each other, and when keeping their distance proves to be too much a challenge, they decide to push the boundaries just a little bit. It’s tentative and careful, but with hopeful and open hearts, they let it happen.

Being such a short story, there’s little time for games or drama, which I loved, and we get two people who are attracted, who want to explore what’s between them, and who don’t hold anything back, and it’s so, so good!

“What’s the situation with the school? How big of a deal is this?”
“There are no rules against a friendship.”
“And what if I wanted more than friendship?”

The forbidden element brings an extra thrill and intensity to each of their encounters, but it also shapes their relationship, and I loved the way this one played out!

“You said I had to tell you want I want,” I said. “And that’s you. Kiss me again. Take me inside to your bedroom … I’ll take whatever I can get. We don’t even know each other but the idea of me leaving right now…” I shook my head. “I don’t want to leave.”

Even in such a short story, Devney still manages to bring the feels. I felt the chemistry, I was revelling in the build-up, and I loved watching them come together and fall so completely. And we get a full and complete story for them – complete with an epilogue which provides wonderful closure, and I loved every moment of this little read.

It was good, I guess? Nothing spectacular, but enjoyable nonetheless. Bland may be the word for it 😅

A cute pre-teen, Katy, on a mission to make her dad, Jeff, fall in love with her English teacher, Della. Single parent is one of my favorite tropes, and the sprinkles of forbidden romance just made it all the better.

It's was to get back to the Maysen Jar universe and even see some of the characters. This novella is set 10 years after Letters to Molly where we had an introduction to Jeff's story.

It's a novella so of course it's fast-paced, but the story didn't feel rushed, which I liked it. Jeff and Della we're really cute and I loved to see how they complement each other.

In true Devney's fashion, the drama wasn't drawn out. Though it's getting old how she portrays other women, in this case, Jeff's ex-wife, they're always bitchy. It's just there's so much internalized misogyny and it's starting to get on my nerves.

Della Adler & Jeff Dawson and Katy

Katy thinks her father needs a girlfriend and she knows just the person to fit the role, her favorite teacher Ms. Adler. Now she just has to make sure they know it too.

Once they meet there is an immediate attraction on both ends, but they've both been burned in different ways in relationships they've had. She is/has been pining after a friend and he by his ex-wife who took him (and still does) through the ringer.

Plus, her job could be in jeopardy while his daughter is in her class. So how do they navigate these circumstances? Well, you'll have to read to find out.

I was happy to get to go back into the world that inhabits the Maysen Jar and get to see or hear about the characters from the previous books.

This book was a short read, but it didn't feel like anything was rushed or lacking. Devney Perry definitely has a way about her writing that just pulls you in the story and makes you fall in love with the characters while they are falling in love with one another.

i am a devney perry stan first, and a person second bc THIS WAS NOTHING SHORT OF DELIGHTFUL!!! i love the maysen jar series more than life itself. it's my favorite devney perry series and reading this novella felt like coming home.

i've been itching to read jeff's story since devney teased it at the end of letters to molly and it did not disappoint!! this novella was just the right amount of pages to tell this story. it was sweet, steamy (jeff is a god to me) and sooooo heartwarming. there was just the right amount of conflict to make it interesting but no third act breakup!!!! and the epilogue had me kcicking my feet!

single parent + a touch of forbidden (she's his daughter's teacher hehe) + dating in secret???? what's not to love!

thank you so much Devney Perry and 1001 Dark Nights & Blue Box Press for this eARC (electronic Advanced Reader's copy) in exchange for a honest review. this book is out 7/11 !!
