Jason Jennings is gonna be the death of me, I swear. I'm the acting sheriff of this small Texas town, and he's gotten himself arrested—on purpose—at least three times now. Worse, he knows I'm a Daddy and isn't exactly subtle about wanting to be my boy, despite our twenty-year age difference.
I'd love to put him over my knee, but it's an election year, and a dangerous last-minute challenger could set the entire county back if I lose. The vote is way too close for the town to suddenly find out that I'm gay and dating the young man I've been putting in handcuffs for the better part of a year.
Still... he's working so hard to put his life back together, I can only imagine how he'd bloom under my support and direction.
When Jason's world begins to fall apart, so does my resolve. How can I abandon my boy when he needs me the most?
The Sheriff's Troublemaker first appeared in the USA Today Bestselling Dirty Daddies PRIDE 2022 anthology and has been expanded to a 45k-word story set in the Rebel Sky Ranch series. It includes a spankable boy, a stern Daddy, and steamy times that might just set your Kindle on fire.
Not quite as good as I hoped it would be, but not bad, either.
That’s the problem with books you start reading with high expectations: I LOVED the book that (chronologically) happens after this one, the one about Justin and Charlie. And I wanted to see how Jason, Justin’s “troublemaker” brother, found his Happy End.
But here’s the thing: I’m in two minds about daddy/boy romances. When they’re well done, they feel natural, and I love them. But sometimes, they feel a bit awkward. And I’m sorry to say that Jason and Patrick, the (black, older) acting sheriff, don’t give that “natural” vibe to me.
I don’t see Jason as a “boy”, and Patrick seems to tick off all the right boxes for a “daddy”, but I don’t quite feel it with him, either. Maybe it’s because it’s just a shorter novella and not a full-blown book and the characters aren’t as fleshed out as they would need to be for this type of relationship to work, idk.
It’s not bad by any means, and it was a good in-between book, and a nice addition to the Rebel Sky universe, but I felt a lot more connected to the previous characters who make an appearance here (like Desi and Sam).
Still - 3 stars, because I love this author’s writing ☺️
I didn't like this one overly much bc I'm not the biggest fan of Daddy/boy romances but it's good to read before diving into Sworn Enemy - which I loved to pieces. ♡
I've read just about everything Kelly Fox has written and loved it all, including this unexpected Daddy/boy story that pairs a truly needy boy with a truly good Daddy.
When we first met Jason Jennings in Goodnight, Book 1 of Rebel Sky Ranch, I am pretty sure no one, including the author, had a clue that he'd end up redeeming himself and having a relationship with an officer of the law 20 years his senior.
Oh wait .. maybe we had an inkling about the relationship, we just weren't sure it would make it onto the page.
Obviously it did, and I loved every bratty, tender, and HOT page of it. Sheriff's Troublemaker has some of Kelly's steamiest scenes yet, and if you've read any of her work you know what an achievement that is.
If you haven't read any of her work, you're in for a treat. You can read this book as a standalone, but you'll enjoy it more if you read the Rebel Sky Ranch series first, or at least Goodnight. You will also want to add Sworn Enemy, Jason's brother Justin's book, to your TBR short list, as it begins the Wild Heart Ranch series.
I look forward to getting glimpses of the Jennings brothers and their respective partners in future books.
It's great to be back in the Rebel Sky Ranch universe! I've really missed these guys. In this book, Jason, one of the brothers who was a homophobic terror in previous books in the series, has now come out and been ostracized by his family. His brother is dealing with substance abuse issues and Jason feels overwhelmed in life as he tries keep his fencing business afloat, heal, and make amends for past behaviors. Jason feels compelled to keep engaging in misdemeanors in order to get the attention of the sheriff, Patrick. Jason needs help getting some support in his life and he believes Patrick would be the perfect daddy for him.
Patrick also experiences a strong attraction to Jason and he certainly trigger's Patrick's daddy vibes. Patrick feels it's his responsibility to maintain professionalism even though he knows that Jason is crying for help. What will happen when a crisis occurs and Jason needs more support than ever? Can the two men take that next step toward intimacy and love? The relationship in this book has been hinted at in other books in the series, so it's good that Jason and Patrick get their beautiful, passion-filled HEA.
This was not my thing. A daddy/boy dynamic is apparently not my thing at all.
I was excited to read about Jason, one of the Jennings brothers that I've met in Sworn Enemy and Jason did call Patrick daddy there, but you never know if it's a "punish me daddy" thing or just an "occasional daddy" thing, you know, you don't know.
I didn't like these two together, I mean I liked Jason getting his HEA, but I kinda thought Patrick was a little bit different and also the way they were talking to each other and the things they were doing...
Justin and Jason had a really bad past and I wanted to hear more about them, too bad this book was so short, it could have laid a really solid foundation for Sworn Enemy, I feel like I didn't read enough about Jason and Justin's past.
It's a well written book though, a bit shorter and I definitely should have read this one and the Rebel Sky series before going to Sworn Enemy.
This is an age gap romance, featuring Jason and Patrick, and is related to Rebel Sky Ranch series.
Patrick is the acting sheriff of a small Texas town who’s trying to ignore his growing feelings for Jason even though he keeps getting himself arrested on purpose.
This this was a great fast paced read and boy was it spicy with a capital S. Jason was an absolute brat for Patrick in the beginning, getting arrested for his attention. These two burnt up the pages, and I picked the wrong book the read in public 🤣 I had to practice my poker face the whole way home from work.
I can’t wait to read the first book in the next series, it’s Jason’s brother. My journey through Kelly’s back catalogue is progressing nicely.
Things to expect in this book are: Related to series MM romance Small town Age gap Daddy x boy/brat Secret relationship Hurt / Comfort Forced proximity Only one cabin Spicy times & dirty talk Spankings & Paddling S*x toys, Cock cage & edging Somno & docking C*ck warming Sounding & breeding Calls him baby boy HEA
i appreciate disgusting smut as much as the next guy but i was not warned about the specific kink that comes into play closer to the end of the book and 🥴 like no judgement from me, go nuts! but i would personally prefer a heads up when we're going to get the metal rods involved
Not bad. A lot of different kinky acts squeezed in, but still had enough story to support it. For the length of the book, the ratio worked. Jason's fathers treatment of his sons was a little overthe top. The plan to overcome his treatment with a new business was entertaining.
I read this as novella in two parts and this is my review written after reading it back in August, I don't have any idea have there been any changes to the story in this version.
Even though this novella won't come out until after Sworn Enemy it is obviously setting up few characters for their own books in the Wild Heart Ranch series. In this story Jason Jennings, the older of Jennings brothers and Wyatt Goodnight's ex lover and unsuccessful blackmailer, gets a chance of redemption after he and his brother come out as gay and get disowned by their family. I am not sure if these are the events that happen in Navarro, as I never actually finished the book, or if they happen off screen before the beginning of this novella.
I don't think I ever wondered if Jason and Justin would get their own books but I have to admit that Patrick, Wyatt's friend and sheriff's deputy, peaked my interest few times he showed up in the stories. Both Jason and Justin are struggling at the beginning of this story, while Justin is more set on self destruction, Jason is breaking the law as a cry for attention and help. He manages to catch Patrick, acting Sheriff's attention, who has a strong urge to be daddy to the broken boy he sees in Jason but who is also resisting his urges until the chain of events makes it impossible for him to stay away any longer.
I have to mention that Jason read more like a man in his 20ies than a man in his 30ies. This was a man who went through a lot; marriage, divorce, coming out, being disowned by his family, losing a job at his father's back, starting his own fencing business, yet none of this was apparent in the actual story where he acted pretty juvenile.
This story felt like it was 90% smut and 10% actual plot and while I like to read about certain BDSM aspects in fiction, Daddy/boy dynamics is not one of them. But for someone who enjoys this dynamic this novella might be just the thing the doctor ordered. Speaking of doctors there are two sounding scenes in the novella which doesn't get explored very often in fiction.
Themes: dual POV, redeemed character, daddy/boy, small town
In Sheriff's Troublemaker, we get to meet Jason Jennings, a character that was only briefly touched in Goodnight Rebel Sky book one. He and his brother Justin are just the kind of characters you expect karma to come for... but somehow, Kelly worked her magic and actually made me care for Jason and Justin. * You can read Justin's hea in Sworn Enemy.
Jason is struggling. After coming out to his family, he torpedoes his whole life, his brother right beside him. His dad is a class one jerk, which just goes to show you that parents can still damage you even as adults.
Looking for ways of surviving his life, he often acts out, sometimes breaking the law, to get the attention of the Sheriff, Patrick.
SheriffDaddy 😂😂😂😂 Patrick has an instant chemistry with Jason, and his daddy instincts scream for him to take care of Jason - who obviously needs guidance and care.
Things HAPPEN, and it pushes Jason and Patrick into admitting and acting on their feelings. When they do? It's absolute fire.
The Texas universe overlaps between all of Kelly's books. I always read them. I always love them. I can't recommend her books enough! Hit me up for recs if you want them!
💚💚💚
J: "I didn't want you to arrest me, not really." His expression is bashful as he admits, "I wanted you to make it better."
P: "Make what better?" I ask, listening intently as my heart pounds in my chest.
J: "Everything. The guilt I feel when I think about the kind of person I was, the terrible voices in my head telling me I ain't worth shit, all of it. I needed it to stop."
P: Oh, baby. "Yeah? And does it stop? With me?" He nods into my chest.
I would say a solid 3 because I thought it would be "more", like Charlie and Justin's book. So I expected all of these deep moments when really, this book isn't bad at all, it's just a low key low angst read so there wasn't much excitement or anything to make me get the feels for the two MCs.
I felt as though from chapters 1-10 so much info was missing. The characters would bring up a situation and discuss it on page, the prob is... the situation didn't happen on page so we get one or two sentences and are supposed to make inferences ourselves on the entire situation and what happened.
I wish it was more put together and not all over the place with the timeline as well.
I thought we would get a lot more of Justin and Jason moments. I was assuming we'd get touching moments between the brothers like in Sworn Enemy where you can really FEEL the brothers deep connection.
So overall I felt confused because there were missing parts. I was confused how the romance went from 0 to 100 in a few pages. I was confused as to why the author didn't write this book without as much passion and she writes her other books that I adore.
Honestly don't get me wrong, Kelly Fox one of the best LGBTQIA+ authors out there! All of her books are usually amazing with some here and there I didn't vibe with. Sometimes it's the reader that just has high expectations which ruins the book experience for them and I know that's definitely what I did because I read Sworn Enemy before this.
I highly recommend reading this before Sworn Enemy.
Quickie smut from side characters between the series romances. HEA. Standalone in connected universe, takes place during and after Navarro and prequel to Sworn Enemy.

Um… that was.. fking ✨F I L T H Y✨, and let me just say—completely from the bottom of my nasty little heart—THANK YOU. 😮💨
This was short and condensed, mainly filthy, dirty smut, but held enough detail and depth to not only make a great addition to this ongoing saga and give great information on Jason and his “redemption” (quotes because *I* see it as more of a second chance after severe trauma, whereas Justin’s book will be more an actual redemption arc in regards to his past, almost deadly bully life,) but to set up for the next installment series perfectly.
I usually am not for Daddy/boy stuff because of its penchant to run towards a limit I won’t cross, but this was excellent and I loved all of the kink nodding. It added to their overall relationship rather than feeling like it was just used as a gimmick.
The mechanics were there and it was extremely well done. I loved it BIG time.
What? Who is that? What is going on here? That's how i felt reading what i thought was the prequel to a series. Apparently, these characters were in another series by the author and if you didn't read that one then you, like me, will have no idea what the deal is with Jason and Justin and why they are so screwed up. Jason is the focus of this novella and his budding relationship with Patrick the sheriff. I felt like so much was missing into the development of this relationship. Was there some interaction and flirting between these two in the other series? Otherwise, this relationship just came out of nowhere. I also wasn't convinced by the Daddy aspect of the story. Jason isn't a little, he does need a Daddy to take care of him but still, Patrick didn't really have that Daddy vibe to me. Maybe the next book will be better.
So this is basically porn with some story intertwined. The story is way better than that in most porn, though. Maybe that makes it erotica? Okay, heavy duty erotica. There is tons of sex and a huge variety, from masturbation and oral sex to rimming and docking, even sounding, all within a cock-cage, vibrating butt plug, leather paddle, scenario.
But somehow it manages to also make some good comments on domestic violence, gay bashing, bullying, mental illness, drug addiction, etc., while churning out the orgasms.
If you’re looking for a little daddy porn erotica, this is pretty good. They’ve got a really sweet relationship and most people looking for a hard dom/sub relationship won’t find it here. But if a softer, gentler, easier-to-take (at least for me—but I’m but I'm not into daddy kink) BDSM couple, this might be for you.
Jason has come a long way. I wasn't sure if he deserved a book until he got a lot more than he bargain for when he finally accepted who he was. Though the town wasn't the most forgiven with his fall from his throne. He tries to pull himself as well as his brother up by their boot straps but it taking a lot more effort than they thought it would. They start gaining support from the local sheriff then a few other like minded people. Slowly Jason works out what he wants and needs to be. With the help of Patrick the sheriff they start to build a life together with others plotting against them. Good story.
I’m so glad that Jason and Justin are getting their redemption arcs. I was not a fan of theirs but my gosh I actually cried a bit. Jason has been through so much and all his issues with the law water cries for attention from one very sexy Sheriff. I love seeing two characters be a safe space for eachother and seeing them support one another made me so happy. I love love love when partners explore kink and communication and consent on ON PAGE ! Patrick and Jason were always checking in and I really appreciated that. I love this series and it was great seeing Desi and Adam- ugh I love them so freaking much.
I originally read the first half in the Dirty Daddies anthology and loved it. I did get the second half from the NL but never had the chance to read it because life got in the way and I wanted to start over anyway but again life. I’m very happy I had KU to read this altogether because I absofreakinglutely loved it. The cover model is the perfect Jason too.
I’ve also been waiting for this story since it was hinted at in the other books.
Highly recommend. Should be read in order and I recommend starting with the Wrecked series.
DNF, - If you read this book and hated it like I did, don't give up on the rest of the series yet. I've only read Sworn enemy thus far but it's like these two were written by different authors.
I don't know what happened with this one, maybe she was just really uncomfortable with the whole Daddy/boy thrope?
Anyway, there's this 50-year-old bald, black muscular dude and a 30-year-old white guy (that's about as much as we're told about their appearances). The older guy spanks the young one once and then they're in love. Oh and older guy has a thing for enemas.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Patrick is a fixer and he's drawn to broken boys and want to fix them. Jason is just a brat and broken enough to make the game interesting and worthwhile for them both. Love is an amazing thing and can inspire changes that otherwise would be impossible to achieve. Jason's vulnerability, need, and love for Patrick (and vice versa) was a beautiful thing to see happening. Jason is one of the sweetest brats you'll meet.
not because I doubted KF in any way - she's a one click for me ... I just seriously doubted my ability to like Jason after how he treated Wyatt. But in true Fox fashion, this book was just as amazing as the others ;) Jason redeemed himself, and I have a pretty good idea Justin is well on his way to doing the same. Definitely recommend this series and all of this author's work.
I was one of the people that wanted Jason to get a happy ending from the moment Desi kicked him of Wyatt's house. I am so ooo happy b her got his happily ever after with Patrick. My goodness Patrick..mmm yes. I loved seeing him get a happy ending too. He intrigued me from the moment I met him in Trip and Sams book. I loved what Kelly Fox had to say before this story even started, has to be my favorite part of this book.
Ok. This was good but I did not realize how heavy the daddy/boy was gonna be. That's on me.
This was originally done for an anthology for daddies and I did not realize that so to me it definitely felt like a trope heavy story but that's what anthologies are intended to be so it's perfect for what it's supposed to be!
It did give me docking and cock warming which I will NEVER complain about!
I always one-click Kelly’s books. This one did not disappoint. I love the Rebel Sky crew, and these two new additions are precious. I love how Kelly can’t take a person we love to hate and make us want to cuddle him until he feels loved by bus, too. Worth a read.
I was lucky enough to read this as a short story so I knew I would love the expanded content. Kelly Fox has written the perfect book in my favorite trope! Patrick and Jason are one of my absolute favorite couples - reformed troublemaker and the stern sheriff that takes care of him. Such an amazing story and I really hope Kelly has plans for more like this! Loved it so much!
I wanted to see Jason and Justin get the help they do desperately needed. Seeing a different take on the Daddy/boy relationship than from what I normally read was fun. And Jason loves to taunt his Sheriff Daddy. I hope we get Justin’s story. If Jason has been filled with guilt and self loathing then Justin is even more so.
