RATING: 5 stars

But knowing PHR, hindi iyon mangyayari, so I hope for the best to come.

I consider this novel as the real beginning of the Fortalejo clan as we are clearly introduced to the next head of the family in Bernard. There were quite a few revelations in this story most of which were delivered in lacklustre narration than in action form. I believe that it was almost a reboot of the whole series to clean up some vague story telling from The Devil's Kiss and And Sisiw at Ang Agila.

The convoluted parentage of Bernard I think was concocted in hindsight when it was decided that Kristine Series will be a series indeed. One must realize that had Bernard not been an actual Fortalejo, not one character will be bearing the name of the clan to continue it on, Emerald is now a de Silva and Jewel was to follow had Bernard been really just Alfon's son. And Nathaniel of course is a Cervantes.

The real love story of Bernard and Jewel didn't really happen in this book but rather mentioned in passing in previous books. The only thing that happened in the book in terms of their romance was the sex to consummate their relationship and eventually making it the cause of Don Leon's final decline.

All in all, aside from series building information contained in the novel I find that this book was an underhanded sale of a love story that didn't really happen in it's pages.

I’ve been reading Kristine Series for a week now and it has been disappointing so far. Grammatical errors, cringe and awkward dialogues, and of course the toxic abusive relationship. Honestly I could have rated some of them higher if only Martha Cecilia classified this book as a dark romance, however, MC’s audience are teenagers, there’s no warnings on the book or any notes to warn the teenagers about the toxic and unjust attitudes of the characters. Other than that, I’m not the biggest fan of the pacing, though it would be given that it will be fast bc this book is REALLY SHORT.

I actually genuinely believe that everyone who loved MC books have issues lol…

I would agree to some reviewers, JEWEL was really one of the STRONGEST FEMALE character in the whole series. If she's not why the hell, Martha made 3 more books for the continuation of their love story? Right? Right? She's one of the best of the best HEROINES!

HAHAHA I mean, I hated Bernard when he married someone else after Jewel´s death but sa book na ito, obviously, he was confused and giving up the love of his life para sa ikapapayapa ng lahat.

Jewel was called Precious to Marco.
Nina to Don Leon.
Princess to Nathaniel.
Dark-eyes to Bernard. I was wondering last time why this girl called by so many names. 5 stars was not enough. 10 stars and 2 thumbs-up. :)

Two of the most strong characters on kristine series, the way matha's writing is so intense, there are many emotions, you will feel the characters expressions.

One of the best if not yet Martha Cecilia book na nabasa ko.
