The Good Time Girls Trilogy #2

The Good Time Girls at Christmas

Rate this book
London, December 1940. It's Christmas for the Good Time Girls, and whilst London tries to inject some sparkle into the wartime rubble, the women of the Hammersmith Palais aren't looking forward to the festive season.

Nancy continues her battle to keep control of the Palais as Ronnie and his thugs appear at every turn, determined to take what he lost back. Can she draw on all of her strength to keep everyone safe, even if it means sacrificing herself? Meanwhile, Betty and Violet have secrets of their own. Secrets which would cause certain ruin if they were discovered.

With Ronnie's presence always looming, the girls are constantly looking over their shoulders - and must continue to fight for their lives, and their freedom, as World War Two continues around them.

This Christmas might not be merry and jolly, but the Good Time Girls will once again take to the stage and ensure the show goes on.

Perfect for fans of Rosie Clarke, Vicki Beeby and Rosie Goodwin.

A spirited sequel to The Good Time Girls at War. I so enjoyed getting to know the girls and their efforts to survive and thrive and uplift spirits through music and dance at the start of WW11 in the first book, so was excited to return to their lives in this story and discover how their lives were unfolding. In this story, we have the struggle of the dance hall to keep going with Renee owing large sums to Ronnie and his thugs- their menacing presence looms over the Palais. The descriptions of the Blitz are wonderfully presented to show the destruction, the threat to life and the fear that must have loomed. As usual the women are steadfast in the face of adversity. It certainly isn't a carefree Christmas period, but the Palai offers a retreat in times of trouble. #thegoodtimegirlsatchristmas #embla #fionaford #worldwar2 #warfiction

I loved the first book of this series and was waiting to see what the second one would bring. It certainly didn't disappoint! Now that I know the characters and didn't have to try and set them all straight in my head, I could see how well their characters were developed and added to. This book made me angry, irritated and sad, but only in a good way as that's what a good author makes their readers feel. Like they are right there experiencing the plot for themselves. It also made me laugh, smile and punch the sky in triumph. I did guess the twists in the book well before they were revealed but that didn't make reading the characters find out any less absorbing. Only 1 bit which I found really unrealistic and eyebrow raising and without spoilers, it was what Violet managed by herself in the end with bombs raining around her. Still didn't detract from the book. Very recommended and if there is another book, I'd love to read it. Thank you to Fiona Ford, her publisher and Netgalley for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review.

Tied uo

This book nicely ties up the first book. It's a good story with interesting characters. It was really good at the description of an air raid during the Blitz in Manchester and London. After listening to my mother's stories of being bombed out and losing everything it brought back her experiences. It also remembers the valiant work of those who ran British Restaurants and the relief they gave those who were homeless and had only the clothes they were wearing, bringing in WVS and emergency relief centres.
This book also brings in happier times, of music and dancing and keeping up morale. Thankyou, I will look for more books written by Fiona Ford.

Great story, but there are typos

Although I enjoyed the story of the girls, the title of "at Christmas" was misleading, and it was hard to ignore the 20+ typos throughout the book. At first I thought it was intentional to emphasize the accent and educational level of the characters, but soon realized the editor of the book needs to pay better attention. However, if you can power through, the camaraderie of the characters can be inspiring.

It was lovely to be back with The Good Time Girls again. I love reading about the goings on of the women while World War Two continues around them. Great characters and loved how they developed through the story. I recommend this series to anyone who likes World War Two fiction. Can't wait for the next one! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

This is another wonderful story about the girls at the Palais and WWII.

The title is a bit strange as the story goes throughout the year and is not based just at Christmas.

That did not spoil the story though and I look forward to reading the next one.

A great return to the series. Following the familiar characters keeping the dancehall running smoothly despite the criminal element around that area and the war time difficulties. Life was hard for these ladies- but they have carved a path for themselves and enjoy their work and their friendships. A wonderful read.

Fantastic

Another good right from the beginning. All the characters were wonderful playing their parts very well. I had already read the third book so reading t the second without having read the first, seems very strange. Bad people do get their comeuppance. Anyway, it’s been truly an inspiring read . Totally recommend it immensely. 😊

I really enjoyed catching up with all the good time girls again. This book sees some troubling times for everyone and Fiona captures the emotions brilliantly. I look forward to more from the good time girls as this series is a trilogy but will also be sad to say goodbye to them in book three.

Just ok.

When I started this book, I thought I had missed an entire book. There is so much within this story that was just completely left out. Huge events in the lives of the characters that the story continues to refer to, but that never were directly addressed.

Book Two December 1940.
The Palais dance hall Hammersmith London, the preparing for Christmas and New Year during WW2 and the show must go on.
Nancy Betty and Violet have had plenty of ups and downs throughout and so has Renee Newsham and we hear her story, and this is one cracking story to be read.
This is such a wonderful book for the season added sparkle for Christmas to curl up to as the good time girls survive and strive and are still standing, I loved reading and eagerly await more in the series to be told to her readers by this author, a book to touch your heart.
