Spider-Man VS. Chasm!! After the battle with Venom last issue, it’s time for the main event… That’s right, it’s Peter Parker vs. Ben Reilly, no-holds-barred in the craziest battle you’ve ever seen! Chasm secures his place in Spidey’s rogues' gallery…as the one who finally vanquishes Peter Parker?!
Bad jokes and a cartoonish villain. Come on Pete get it together. At least Chasm should be eviler. Now he’s just pathetic, lamenting his own failure and not raging against the injustice of his choices.
Ah, the good old days when Marvel comics, then the house of ideas came up with their own, new stories. Those days are obviously over as this issue will attest. One of the best crossovers of the late eighties, Inferno is back with the same villains, but hey its still original, after all Venom and Ben Reilly weren't part of that story? Although Venom was a eighties villain, as was "Lethal Protector" which is referrenced here. Still Zeb Wells takes the editoral directive and still does give us an interesting story. It did keep my interest though I kept saying, saw that in X Men, that in X Factor.
I really enjoy the dynamic between Ben Reilly and Peter Parker in this issue. Wells and McGuinness found their sweet spot on this one. Everything that happened at the end of the last volume of Amazing Spider-Man had a purpose now. I know the author had to grow up reading the same Spidey books that made me fell in love with comics. I can feel it when I read content like this.
