The Map of Nova and Dev

Rate this book
One guy. One girl. One life-changing road trip.

Set to road trip across the U.S. for college with her best friend, Nova Pratt’s plans are disrupted at the last minute, leaving her scrambling for a solution.

Devin Hawthorne’s sister has an idea. Hitch a ride to California with her close friend, Nova. Who knows? It might end up an unforgettable adventure.

From minute one, he pushes her buttons and mocks her carefully prepared list of tourist stops, convincing her to toss the plan and live a little. One detour after another, their walls fade, and a friendship forms. But as they near their destination, their feelings entangle, and what began as light and carefree ends in tears and a bombshell discovery.

Years later, they’re paving different paths, but with close family ties, they’re unable to forget the past as their lives continuously intersect. They may no longer be kids, but when will Nova and Devin grow up enough to realize that time is irrelevant when the one you want has been there all along?

From the writing duo behind The Archer and His Rosebud comes an angst-filled romance spanning years and proving fate will find a way—when it’s time. Fans of road trips, slow burn, forced proximity, and right love, wrong time should grab their tissues and prepare for this angsty second-generation romance.

This book will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. You go a road trip where you bump into old friends and family. With sudden twists that come out of nowhere. This book will hook you in and hold you hostage till the end. Free up some time and get lost in The Map of Nova and Dev.

This story, wow, this story was different for me. The love that Mindy and Michele have for these characters was so tangible right from page one. Immediately I just fell in love. The love in the story is so palpable, when the characters hurt, I hurt; when they were happy, I was happy. Every chapter I devoured, ready with anticipation for what’s going to come next.

Maybe it’s because they’re second generation stories. There’s a tie to their world with other books that were so real and beautiful to me. So when reading Nova and Dev’s story, there was a sense of familiarity and home.
(And not forgetting getting to see some familiar faces again!)

Nova and Dev’s story is far from simple, and I quite like that. Sometimes a story isn’t so straight forward. Sometimes it really is the right person, but just at the wrong time.

Nova is a real mix of Brett & Ruby (and I believe, a little bit of the that Amber spirit too). She is confident and strong minded, with a soft vulnerability and gentle soul. A mad planner like her mum, but spontaneous and adventurous like her dad. There was so much in Nova that I saw in myself, and maybe that’s why I connected to her so much as a character.

Dev pleasantly surprised me. What I first believed to be your typical player jock, actually shattered all my preconceptions. Naturally, he’s the heartthrob we would all love to meet IRL… but, there is so so so much more than meets the eye. There’s a real depth, and maturity to him, as well as there being that level of boyish cheekiness that is irresistible.

The book also tackles some hard themes. I guess that’s why I love Mindy and Michele’s writing so much; they don’t shy away from talking about the horrors that people can face in this world. They balance the beauty and magic of fiction, with a bit of the ugly and realness of our world; they give a voice to those who need to be heard.

Overall, this book is just a masterpiece. It’s one that I’ve come to love so intensely, that I will probably struggle to live back in “the real world”. Their story is so beautiful and chaotic and raw; the love the leads have for one another, is just so contagious and so right. It’s a rollercoaster ride, with some moments of anguish and frustration (deffo torture!), some great tasteful spicy moments 🥵🔥, with some good little shocking dark moments too (I’m assuming that’s Mindy’s doing 😉😂). But their journey, despite it being a rollercoaster, is SO totally worth it!!!

I know for sure that Nova and Dev have a place in my heart right next to Ridley & Rea and Brynn & Hayden!

Thank you ladies, truly! ❤️

Sweet heat with emotional electricity popping in every chapter!!!! I stayed up way too late finishing this but so glad I did. This is an emotional gripping story with sass and swoon. Nova and Dev have family history but get to know each other better on a road trip. The ups and downs continue in this book and the way the authors wrap a good love story in between makes for a great book. If you've read their Paper Planes series (which I have MANY TIME) or their Seaside Pointe series, you will recognize many characters. That was one of my favorite things about the book. This author duet writes such compelling stories with characters that are real and raw. I loved reading the "sweet heat" in this book, just enough for swoon but not too much detail. Another great book!!!

I fell in love with Nova and Dev. Theirs was an unconventional love story and I couldn’t get enough. So many times the stories end too soon. And while I could have read more and more about these two, I appreciated that the authors didn’t skimp. They gave the readers far beyond what other authors may have done to make sure we got their full story and not one cut off too soon. I loved the cameos of other characters from their beloved books while staying true to Nova and Dev’s story. This book made me laugh out loud, cry, yell at the characters when they made choices, and ultimately fall in love right along with them. Mindy Michele books always make me sad when the books end because I’ve gone on the journey of falling for the characters as they fall in love and this book didn’t disappoint.

What a trip!
Love story with all the feels!
This was a wonderfully written story about two people who keep finding themselves wanting to be with each other at all the wrong times. It was a roller coaster ride going with them along their trip to find peace with themselves and a way to move on from hidden secrets.
Nova and Dev’s book was even packed with some familiar names and all the tie ins were perfect. Loved this book so much.

The Map of Nova and Dev by Mindy Michele
5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis— When plans change and the unexpected happens Nova Pratt decides to go on her two week road trip to California with her best friend’s brother, Devin. Embarking on a trip as two strangers they never expected to push each other’s boundaries and change the course of each other’s lives. This romance follows two people that have to discover who they are before they can fully discover what they can be together.

I’m going to be honest. This is my first ARC I have ever received and I thought to myself, “what if I don’t like it? what will I say in my review?” But I’m so happy to tell you that after the first couple chapters I knew that would not be the case because I was already in love with Nova and Devin. ❤️❤️

This story had everything I love about romance. It had tons of angst, forced proximity, dual perspectives, second chances, and an epic love that develops over the span of time.

The transformation of these characters was a wonderful thing to read. Nova begins her story as a young heartbroken girl who is following the plans of a future to satisfy those she loves and Devin is confused about an unknown future because he’s still working through issues in his past. It was so heartwarming the way they helped each other grow and push each other to achieve all that life has to offer.

(Let’s not forget to add that Devin Hawthorne is the sweetest and most romantic jock and completely ruined the player stereotype I had expected and had me swooning over some hand holding and forehead kisses.) 🥰

I cannot say enough good things about The Map of Nova and Dev!! Mindy and Michele knocked this one out of the park 😉. I savored every moment that I was a part of this romance and stayed up way too late more than once because I could not put it down needing to know what would happen next in this amazing love story.

Do yourself a favor and read this book, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

A few of my favorite quotes—
✨”You’re the type of man women dream about, Devin Hawthorne.”✨
✨”If this is all I’ll get from her, I want to leave my mark. I want my imprint on her soul the way she is on mine.”✨
✨”Like being forced to keep my hands to myself when all I want is to cross this room and finish the kiss you started tonight.”✨

tropes:

– angsty
– slow burn
– a love story spanning years

i’m sure you all know by now how much i love the archer and his rosebud by these two lovely ladies and it’s no different for the map of nova and dev!

this was such an emotional and beautiful story, i immediately fell in love with nova and dev since the very beginning. nova and dev have family history, but they get to know each other on a deeper level while on this road trip. but what happens when their road trip comes to an end, but their journey doesn’t? well grab some snacks, hop on, and let the adventure begin!

“𝙞 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙬𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙗𝙚 𝙞𝙩.”

i don’t want to say too much, but their story is far from simple. it’s a rollercoaster ride filled with angst, frustration, sass, steam, and swoony moments! you get twists you don’t see coming and side characters you’ll love! you just can’t help it, but root for nova and dev!

mindy and michele write such compelling stories about characters who feel so real, i just want to jump in the book and be friends with them.. in my mind i already am though 🤭

nova and dev have my heart and i can’t wait for y’all to read their story 🤍

Once again Mindy Michele knocked it out of the park. The Map of Nova and Dev is entertaining and endearing. The love that these characters share is unstoppable. Mindy Michele bring this story to life with such intensity that you feel like your going through the motions with Nova and Dev. Highly recommend this book!

First off, WOW. I randomly found this book on Amazon under the something similar section while looking up another book. The description had me from the jump. A road trip/second chance romance? Sign me up. The fact that this book only has like 90 something ratings on here is truly shocking. More people should know about this book and read it because it was truly beautiful.

I didn’t even care that this book was 500+ pages. I didn’t feel like it at all. Most romance books over 400 pages I’m just waiting to it to finish, but I truly could not get enough and never wanted it to end.

Nova and Dev were end game from the jump, even if they didn’t know it. The amount of times they were there for each other in the toughest moments of their lives. They were truly meant to be.

The letters Dev wrote Nova. The first one before she was supposed to get married and the second one telling her that they needed to stop playing games and be together, finally. And gifting her plane tickets. I was literally sobbing. I could feel the love radiating from the pages.

Him getting a tattoo of a drawing she did on a napkin a few years after their road-trip when he thought he lost her forever? Tears. Her getting a necklace made for a flower he plucked for her on their road-trip? Tears.

Him taking her to Alaska to cross off her final state when they could finally be a couple? Tears.

So many other things I could point out about this book…. But you just need to read it. This tugged at my heart strings. I just love them so much. Nova and Dev forever.

What can I say? Mindy Michele never disappoint. Who doesn’t love young love? Watching therm grow and learn along the way.

This is a sweet sexy romance. And if you loved the Pratt family from the Paper Planes series you’re in for a treat. The whole gang is here.

I hope that you’ll pick up Nova and Dev’s book.

DNF. NOT SAFE FOR ME.

I guess this is what i get for going in blind with no safety details.

H and h are on a road trip and they could feel the attraction towards each other and they had a little kiss moment too but then H got jealous that she thinking about forgiving her ex ( forgiving not taking him back but he thought she's gonna take him back) and then she also met her old friend (Claire) and her brother (Anders) and when they all went to some restaurant, h and Ander flirt some and he also come on to her but she politely declined. While H was making out with Claire (heroine friend).

I can't believe it. I admit they weren't physical yet except that kiss but for me it counts. They had emotional connection and even H said he feels something for her and yet he did something like this even after knowing her history with her ex.

Edit - well it seems like it's a good thing I dnf it bc even if this book was safe I wouldn't have loved it at all. I just read a review and it said after they finally gave in and had sex, H disappear for several years and when they met again she was going to marry some other guy who verbally abused her. But she ditched the abusive guy to go with the hero when he sent a letter to her that he's standing outside.

This is a five-star story that will take you on an amazing journey. This was simply a delight to read, I have loved these authors work, and finding out more about Devin and Nova, just warmed my cold heart, I met them in The Archer and His Rosebud, and they intrigued me, but honestly getting their stories just blew me away, getting to know them as I read their story felt like a privilege. A privilege of getting the truth and their journey, it was an emotional rollercoaster and I feel wrung out still, but it was so worth it. I can’t put into words how much I loved this story, it just kept getting better and better, and just like a good road trip, it kept you on your toes, never letting you get too comfortable. Just adding layer and layer of the good stuff, at each stop. It really felt like catching up with old friends as well, when we stopped in Seaside Pointe it felt a little like coming home. If you are looking for sweet, complex, drama filled and passion to top it off then you need this story in your life.

If you are familiar with Mindy Michele's Paper Planes series, you will love this next generation story seeing our favorite couples' kids almost grown. But even if you aren't familiar with the Pratt family, you will still love this story of two people meant for each other but the timing not being quite right for a while.
My favorite thing about Mindy Michele stories is the character development. The characters leap off the page and I can't help but become invested in them.

Wow wow wow. I can’t put into words how much I love this book. Maybe it’s because I have first hand knowledge of “right person, wrong time” right out of high school with my husband, I related to this story so much. I loved getting to have an extension of characters that I already loved (Nova’s parents) and getting to see more of their life through their daughter made my heart happy. Nova and Dev made me fall in love with them and their path was a rollercoaster that was both frustrating and endearing. A+!!!

another hit out of the park (pun intended)

Once again, Mindy Michele lead me on an emotional roller coaster, causing me to neglect my family for 24 hours. Cereal for three meals is okay, right?
If you loved their other stories, this one won’t disappoint. Spinning off of the characters from the Paper Planes series and The Archer and His Rosebud, The Map of Nova and Dev delivers a beautiful tale of two who just couldn’t get their timing right.

This book had a really good promise but it didn't deliver. I really liked the start of the book but the timejumps threw me off. It confused me and made me feel like I was missing parts of the story. The pacing turned so fast and I really felt like I could've connected more with the book if the pacing was slower.

I wanted to stop reading this book after I reached the 50% mark. The story is too long and drawn out. The back and forth between the characters started to annoy me. It just went on for too long. I didn't see why the story had to keep going because there already happened so much drama. The story should've wrapped up after the wedding reconnection. I really had to push myself to finish this book but hey, I did.

Characters

The thing is....the characters were likeable. I didn't have a lot of issues with them. Overall Devin and Nova were nice characters and kind of made for each other. I just didn't connect with them on a deeper level. It was alright, they were alright.

I really had a hard time with my star rating. 3 or 4 and I leaned more towards 4 because the writing was so well done. There were just elements I didn't like, but I didn't put this down, so that is a big star. I enjoyed it when it was all said and done. I don't like a book that last years and years, I don't like a book that keeps the couple apart more then they are together, and I don't like a book that drags the poor characters threw one bad thing after another. This book did all that and I keep reading! So there is that. The tension and romance were just worth it.
This is an adult romance. Also had adult themes. This had no explicit sex scenes but it was implied and many make out session that ended in sex were implied. It also had child sexual abuse that I thought the author handled beautifully. She made it clear that inappropriate things happened without going into detail and shocking you. She also showed the real and deep impact that it has on a person and couple.
This had a tiny bit of swearing and a little alcohol but overall moral people with faily values trying to do there best. There was no religion.

Sweet love story

I did enjoy this book. It was a sweet love story for a couple of teenagers thrown together. There were definitely some tears, though.

I’m not a fan of time jumps in a book and this one has a lot. It makes it hard to get invested in one timeline and its circumstances before you’re thrown into another. Because of the time jumps it feels like there’s never really a major arc in the story, just small ones here and there which is why I dropped a star.

The characters are incredibly well developed and you feel like you know them. I love them all. The plot is clear, if a little anticlimactic, and I wasn’t left with a bunch of questions at the end.

I would definitely recommend it and read it again.

sometimes it’s about timing love story

There were times I wanted to smack Dev and Nova upside the head, but that part of how this story works. I really enjoyed their story, couldn’t set it down. It was a perfect addition to the Paper Planes Series. Yes, this book is a standalone but if you enjoyed this give the other books a go!

Possible plot leak (so don’t read further):

Please check trigger warnings. Felt the authors did a good job dealing with issues brought up regarding Dev. Not too many books focus on abusers being women.

This book took forever to read!? You get to a part and see there’s still half the book to read and it’s like what more can happen?! Well it’s bc the main girl couldn’t just be with the guy she wanted. It was super annoying. And then out of no where an attack that seemed like it was rushed through. Not that great of writing. The author must have some connection to Wisconsin…a stop in the Dells…haha. I hate the Dells. Just a long dragged out story.

This book was well-written. I loved the right love, wrong time aspect so much, the push and pull was so good… until it wasn’t. By the end, I was honestly just annoyed. I got to about 70% and I contemplated DNFing but decided to push through. I absolutely adored the characters but they frustrated me so much sometimes.

Too long and drawn out

While I enjoyed the 1st book called Archer and his Rosebud , this 1 dragged on and on. It became redundant after a while, repeating the same situations over and over again. Usually I'm sad to come to the end of a book but I wasn't with this 1. It was like , "Finally!"
