Jacqueline Baird was born on the 1st of April at home in a small village Northumbria, England, UK, where she raised. She went to the local village school, and later an all-girls' grammar school where she passed the University of Oxford General Certificate of Education in various subjects. On leaving school she joined the civil service in the then Post Office department.

She met her husband Jim, when she was only eighteen. Eight years later, after working as a hotel receptionist in a five-star hotel in Scotland and traveling abroad for a few years, she came home and married him. They still live in Northumbria and have two grown sons.

Her number one love is writing. She has always been an avid reader, and she had her first success as a writer at the age of eleven, when she won the first prize in the Nature Diary of the Year competition at school. But she always felt a little guilty because her diary was more fiction than fact. Apart from a spell as a hopeful painter in oils, when she actually did have a painting accepted for the Federation of Northern Artists' annual exhibition her real passion was for romance novels. When her sons went to school all day she thought she would try writing one. Jacqueline Baird's been writing for Mills & Boon since 1988, and she still gets a thrill every time a new book is published.

When Jacqueline is not busy writing she likes to spend her time traveling, reading and playing cards. She was a keen sailor until a knee injury ended her sailing days, but she still enjoys swimming in the sea. She visits a gym twice a week now and has made the surprising discovery that she gets some good ideas while doing the mind-numbingly boring exercises on the cycling and weight machines.

On second thought, you know what? I frankly finished the book! It deserved a negative star, but I'll just have to settle for the one star option that is available!

***original rant***

When I say too many references to the ex - for once, I mean the heroine's.
Hero was almost the second best.
However, he was STILL a douche. His pride being little dented is not an excuse for blackmailing someone to marry them.
I didn't buy his explanation of love, I felt it was his dented ego.
He also deliberately destroyed a jewellery that was dear to the heroine which was given by her dead husband. That's not lover's jealousy, that's act of a cold blooded cruel asshat bully.
Also, he was celibate for 12 months then there was an attractive woman in his apartment and he realised he didn't have any in 12 months so he might just well have it with for sex's sake? By the sound of it, he wasn't even aroused, so what was the point?
And it was ok for him to think abt the heroine while having sex with OW, but not for the heroine to have sex with him while thinking abt her husband?
He took out a woman he had sexual relationship with WHILE being married to his wife and after walking out on her, and wonders why she didn't tell him about pregnancy?
Not only that, in his mind he's saying this that "nothing has eased his need for Jemma. In desperation he had taken Davina out - Just for dinner". The same Davina he took just to show his apartment and then ended up just having sex. So what was he thinking of achieving taking out Davina JUST for dinner? When he was aching for his wife? What was he thinking would happen? What is the reason behind taking a woman out to dinner while you're still married, divorce is not finalised, and you are aching for your wife? When he fully knew she was an opportunist and was also after sex with him and was very blunt about it? That line there is telling me, that he fully intended to have sex with her. And now is refusing to admit to even himself now that he's standing in front of his pregnant wife. If he was desperate to be distracted WHY does it have to be with a female companion? Why not grab a few beer with couple of guys? And pass out at your apartment? Works much better than emotional cheating and the hangover is so much better than your spouse's distrust on you!
I hated the heroine. I'm not even going to talk abt her. But I started reading the book hoping to like the hero and get angry on his behalf and it turns out he deserved everything he suffered and more.
The only thing positive about the book was that he doesn't actually rape his wife and is actually disgusted at himself for even attempting it, so he walked out and stayed away because of that.
Apart from that, an A grade bully.

Widowed heroine spends one night with our hero. She was drunk and still grieving her beloved dead husband so she never wants to see him again. When Luke discovers that Jemma’s father is in financial trouble and might go to jail he is willing to help them but only if Jemma agrees to a marriage of convenience. For hero who used to be a playboy it is love at first sight but Jemma is still in love with the memory of her dead husband. Hero feels hurt and betrayed but he is determined to not let go of her.

Very intense and angsty read. This author writes angst like no other that’s why I love her work. Hero is so smitten and clearly adores his wife. He is totally dreamy. His love declaration is romantic and swoon worthy. He says things like: “You are my love, my passion, my life…you fill my eyes, you fill my heart, you fill my mind to the exclusion of all else…I don’t deserve you Jemma but I love you madly and I always will.” Poor guy he was really infatuated! Epilogue was adorable. We find out they had a baby boy and baby girl and a very satisfying HEA!

I think I’ve read this a couple of years back.
Anyway, it would’ve been a 5 star read if only hero was celibate after their night of passion a year ago. Admittedly at that time he thought heroine was married and was furious. Also it was only one woman during the separation and he dated her out of desperation, his own confession- I didn’t find this romantic. During the second separation he again went out on a date with this woman. Again out of desperation. The title should’ve been ‘Desperate Hero’🙄.
At times I felt hero was an immature boy than a 38 year old man.
Heroine didn’t inform him about her pregnancy but what irked me was she didn’t have a plan to tell anytime soon. He found out quite accidentally.
But still the blackmail part and scenes with hero’s grandfather- was really well done. Hero and heroine were quite a sexy couple too. Their chemistry was off the charts. And I liked the angst and their banter.
Epilogue and last part was what I loved the most.
Recommended.

Hero has a one night stand with the heroine who was tipsy and hurting on what would have been her fourth wedding anniversary. Hero thinks she’s still married when in truth, she had been widowed for over a year. He kicks her out in disgust.

A year later the H/h meet up again when his grandfather is interested in buying the house in Greece that the heroine has just inherited. It’s tied up in a trust, and the heroine can’t sell it. She can only have it if she marries and has children.

The hero devises a way (Daddy was stealing from the shareholders and hero finds out) to marry the heroine as payback for the emotional anguish he went through after his One Night Stand was only one night.

Heroine is livid, feels guilty about moving on, but she likes the sex. Hero is getting more desperate for the heroine to love him and forget her dead husband.

There are misunderstandings galore,

Hero was very forceful and handsy and sure of himself, until he finally experienced the pains of love. The mighty fell hard in this one.

I've read much better stuff from JB. This is probably a half hearted effort from her, at best.

This JB book is a little different in that the h is not so much into the H as her hs usually are. She’s a grieving widow but that’s not the reason really. She acknowledges before long that her dead husband’s no match for the H – in and out of bed but still she holds her emotions and involvement in check and that rankles especially towards the end.

The H – the usual controlling asshat as all her Hs- doesn’t surprise or disappoint! His smitten-ness and passion are quite obvious – to the reader and the h. So her coolness drags down the book.
But for that, the book is good and I enjoyed most of it. The beginning is a hoot with a light humorous tone but soon heats up with the H falling head over heels for her.

I really like a hero who goes all out to win his heroine! Luke and Jemma have a one night stand two years earlier when she is recovering from the death of her husband. She is mortified that she had sex with someone she picked up in a bar. Luke misunderstands and thinks she is still married. He is horrified that he just had sex with a married woman. Harsh words are spoken and she leaves immediately.

They meet again years later at her stepsisters' birthday party. (Luke is now casually dating her stepsister). At this party he learns that her husband was dead and realized that he misunderstood the situation. Since he is still wildly attracted to Jemma, he drops stepsister like a ton of bricks and starts pursuing Jemma. Unfortunately, she is still distraught over the death of her husband and is not interested.

However Daddy, has been embezzling from the company and is about to go under and to jail. Luke comes in with a sweet rescue package if Jemma agrees to marry him. Of course, they do....Even though Jemma marries under duress, they do actually work out a very good compromise (Luke wants sex, she wants a baby). In spite of their differences, they really make a wonderful working marriage. Of course, there is the "big" misunderstanding and they separate. They work through it though for their much earned HE. I really enjoy an Epilogue and this one was very good!

Though, not one of my favorite JB HPs...it is still a somewhat entertaining read.

"Bought by the Greek Tycoon" is the story of Jemma and Luke.

A good read with a widowed heroine and a jealous hero.
Hero and heroine have had a one night stand a year ago, after which the heroine runs away lying about her marital status. Currently, the heroine owns the house the hero's grandfather desperately wants. The hero is ordered to court the heroine, but mixes her up with her stepsister. After some realizations and lies, he now begins chasing the heroine, using their mutual attraction as the tool. However, the heroine is still heavily hung up on her dead husband, and worships his shrine- hence is dismissive of the hero.
We then have a super jealous hero who is like a petulant child, trying to get the heroine's attention and the heroine mooning over her dead ex. There is hot sex, loads of OW/OM jealousy, blackmail, hidden pregnancy, confessions and a detailed epilogue. The heroine made the hero GROVEL, and definitely work to win her love- because I genuinely think she didn't care for him in the first half of the book. And the family beach conception made me chuckle!

- dead ex trope. (The heroines hub this time, and she truly loved him)

I liked how crazy the H was for her, but the h came across as a cold fish.

Safety

They had a ONS a year ago, but he kicked her out right after when she said she was married (h was a widow at the time, he didn’t know ).

Thinking he would never see her again since she’s married, he slept with the ow a year after the ONS, then he dated the h step sister for a week to help his grandfather. There was no double dipping with the sisters.

-after they marry then separate, the H took out his ex to dinner (not sex).

"Have you any idea how long I've waited to break through your super-cool control? How much I've longed to reach you on a deeper level? How often I lay in bed beside you sated with sex but knowing that you were keeping a wall between us, your deeper emotions locked away with your dead husband? You can't begin to know what it did to me. Me—Luke Devetzi—who never believed in love.' He gave her a look of wry self-mockery. 'And I fell hopelessly in love with a woman who was locked in the memory of her past love."

-Luke to Jemma

I totally fell in love with this one! While i haven`t read that many books by Baird,i love the all the books i have read by her so far,"Guilty Passion" are by far my favourite by her,but this one still came close to it.

I felt for both the heroine and hero in this one.Lycurgus "Luke" Devetzi are a typical sexy, rich and disgustingly arrogant Greek ´Tyccon we all romantic readers love to hate.Poor Luke was a besotted and intensely jealous hero and a irresistibly devoted husband towards his heroine, his wife Jemma Barnes,a gardener who loves flowers, and still loves her dead husband.

We read how Luke does everything to win her love, while she stubbornly refuses to commit herself.

I throughly enjoyed their angsty but delicious romance. How in the end Luke realized that he could never stop loving her,and so finally declares his love for her, whether she wanted it or not..."sigh"..

2.5 stars

It is an ok read, 2.5 stars in comparison to other Jacqueline Baird's book, 3 stars in comparison to other romance novels with similar theme.

There was one question that was left unanswered which usually doesn't happen in Jacqueline Baird's books as she crosses all her T's.

I quite liked this one, the heroine has a one night stand with the hero a year before the story proper starts. He see’s her again at a party at her fathers house. She’s a widow who has never quite got over losing her husband except that one night with the hero, who believes she’s married and cheated on her husband with him. Till he finds out the truth. He wants to have her totally he even wants to marry her, but she refuses. Then through his machinations he’s able to blackmail her into marriage. Things do not not go well, the path to true love is never smooth.

The hero in this is extremely jealous of the heroine’s dead husband, the thought that she’s still in love with him drives the hero crazy. His attitude is not helped by the heroine who resents that she’s been blackmailed into marriage, and does feel guilt that she’s betraying her dead husband. So she acts fairly cool around the hero.

A angsty read that was okay, I must say that I wasn’t very keen on the two main characters, they were both a little cold and manipulative for my liking

Le Sigh, how far would you go for family?? Girl why is your daddy so trifling??

Jemma was once happily married and is now widowed; she is struggling with the idea that she must move on from her happy memories and the happy life she once had with the perfect man. But as we all know nature doesn't allow for the young to mourn forever. Jemma is faced with so many challenges to her desire to remain numb to the world and then she escapes after being dealt another devastating blow. She had one slip and she can't deal with that slip so she runs away and is faced with a new decision that she once again runs away from because she's not ready to let go.

But all things will come to light and the cushy life she's been leading is built on a lie and the decision she hid from comes back to life and it's all spiraling out of control. I loved that Jemma was wary and knew her own mind, had some history and wasn't immediately blown away by Luke. I loved that she wasn't an innocent woman who was down on her luck and wasn't on Luke's level. I mean in the end he does kind of use his position to get her where he wants her and he even has a few moments of being a world class douche especially close to the end. I was just so ready to freak out but he freaks out first and yeah, not totally redeemed because I'm not sure how much I believe Jemma when she comforts him, but yeah.

The back and forth between the two gave for an interesting read and was at times quite enjoyable. The story moved quickly and I enjoyed the way the flowed together. Jackie writes great love scenes and wonderful female leads and I really enjoyed this glimpse into a love story.

This was a great break between my heavier paranormal reads, so I liked that I flew through it even more without having heavy character lists to keep up with.

★★★☆☆
Recommend if you're looking for a quick read and something light. Happy Reading.

One of my older reads. I loved how besotted the hero was.

The heroine had married her childhood/teenage hero and it had been a happy marriage though no extreme emotions. All sweetness and light.

Then he died.

She was in Greece on the first anniversary of his death and for some reason having wine on the promenade and the hero spills it on her. No a couple of teenagers do.

Hero offers her his yacht to clean up. They of course have a tryst in the day time.

She got disoriented because his eyes had reminded her of her husband’s blue eyes. Hero’s eyes are grey though.

Anyway. He’s smitten. She can’t wait to get away. He tells her it meant nothing and his girlfriend will be back any minute. They part.

A year later they meet again. His grandfather wants a company. He is cosying up to the owner. Loves the owners daughter. Tells the grandson .. you go through her. Marry her so I get my villa. Sorry it was a villa the grandfather wanted.

So the hero cosies up to the daughter. Only it’s the wrong daughter.

When he sees the other girl he’s done for. It’s his lost one. The one he has been pining for.

He breaks off with the wrong sister.

Read the rest. I’ve given enough spoilers.

I loved that the hero pursued her ruthlessly.

She realises she loves him finally.

Good old school story from the HP
Stable.

Surprised at the high rating this one has got. I found the writing shoddy, the leads farcical, stupid and the premise dull.

The girl is half English half Greek. Her Greek uncle has business trouble, she agrees to a marriage with the Greek tycoon hero to save the business.

Then both of them start acting like idiots. He spends 20 pages being indifferent to her. She spends even more pages worrying herself sick about DOING IT with him. She wants him but acts crazy weird around him.

So they DO IT once, then she flees. Then the crazy farcical premise of mistaking her brother to be her lover comes in. This part of the story is particularly idiotic.

Now how do you tell the reader that a girl in HP land is a bundle of virtues ? Simple, 3 ways to do it. Make her a librarian. Or an animal lover. Or let her run a charity for kids. It's solution 3 applied in this story. I could write a book of HP clichés some day !!!

She wants money for the charity. Sleep with the hero and earn your keep, that's her brilliant idea.

So after a sordid one week, she flees again. This time he comes chasing, and professes undying love.

Half hearted writing, it was an ordeal to finish the book.

You might want to count the number of times the girl thinks of sex with the hero and 'panics'. Must be atleast a million !! But when she actually gets down to business, she does fine. Silly really.

Jemma is a widow who really misses her beloved husband. Luke is the man she had a one night stand with after his death but before she was ready. (she still wears her wedding band). She fell into bed with him after a few glasses of wine and a really bad day. He finds out she is married and throws her out angrily because while he is a womanizing pig, he does not sleep with married women. A year later her father had stolen money and she is blackmailed into marriage to Luke by Luke for repayment of the stolen money. She had inherited a cottage that once belonged to his grandfather and the grandfather has been trying to buy it but the cottage is in a trust for Jemma's children and can not be sold.
I like that he finally comes around to his feelings and almost gushes in his willingness to do anything to keep her. He can be quite romantic.

Decided to read some of Jacqueline Baird's books and I didn't realise that I've was actually re-read it until I clicked it here on goodreads and it was already marked as 'read'.
