Get in, save the girl and get back out. That was CHAIM agent Brice Whelan's mission. But saving missionary/nurse Selena Carter might be more difficult than expected. Selena's run-in with a drug cartel put the people in her care in danger. Yet the danger doesn't end when Brice brings her home. The counterfeit drugs have entered Georgia, and this time Selena isn't about to run away. Brice's mission hasn't changed; he still needs to keep her safe. And that means staying by her side—whether she wants him there or not.

Selena is a nurse, who works in a clinic for low-income/poor families, and has currently been in Argentina helping to run a clinic there. When the clinic is attacked and many of the staff, along with villagers, are killed, she makes a desperate phone call to her long time friend, Brice, who flies in and whisks her safely back to Georgia.
Brice and Selena met in college, and a romance might have happened, but Brice was eager to join CHAIM, a covert Christian agency that protects and helps Christians in need. Being a part of CHAIM, of which Selena's father is also a part of, means a relationship is off limits. So they have been the best of friends since then.
Now they're thrown together as Selena's father places Brice in charge of protecting her while he's out of town, as it becomes clear that her life is in danger.
I had a few issues with the story that sort of got in the way of my enjoying it. Selena and Brice have been close friends since college, yet she keeps secrets from him that put her life at risk. She has suspicions about the raid in Argentina and what the attackers were after. But she keeps her thoughts to herself and leaves Brice in the dark. Diego, who went to Argentina with her, was killed in the attack, and Brice wonders if Selena were in love with him. We never really learn the nature of her relationship with Diego, we never know if they were just friends or romantically involved.
I knew long before the book ended who the bad guy was, but it took Selena much longer to figure out, though Brice wondered. Although Brice was actually suspicious of everybody.
Part of it may be that missionary/drug cartel/guerrillas plot lines just don't appeal to me, so even without my issues with the characters I may not have loved the book.
I guess basically this was a decent, fairly enjoyable read, but nothing particualrly memorable for me.
It must be true love because I can't think of another reason that Brice Whelan would put up with what Selena Carter did.
First she calls him because she wants his help. He comes, and she's upset with him because he's trying to get her to leave Argentina (where she's been the nurse at a clinic). Then, she deliberately keeps information from him--several times! She won't listen to him on ways to keep herself safe and keeps pushing the limits and doing things he tells her not to do. I pretty much hated her actions from the first time I learned she wasn't telling Brice.
I don't know what the rules are on reporting unsafe medications or suspicions of drug trafficking. I can somewhat understand not wanting to accuse someone and have them go through the process of having to prove that they didn't if they are innocent--but if someone was trying to take my life, all bets are out the window. I'm telling what I suspect so that the people trying to keep me alive have the information they need to do so.
This book has been in my TBR pile for years! I enjoyed the basic story. I really liked the hero, Brice, but he was waging an uphill battle with the heroine, Selena. She was a nurse who was involved with charity work both in Argentina and in Georgia. The two of them had known each other since college. Brice is a secret agent so I enjoyed that aspect of it, plus he's half Irish and I loved the way he talked. He rescues Selena from a dangerous situation in Argentina. However, when it's discovered that Selena's life is in serious danger, she keeps important information from Brice that could break the case and then constantly thwarts his efforts to keep her safe because she "doesn't think anything will happen to her" even though things DO keep happening! I just wanted to throttle her! I didn't understand why Brice would fall in love with such a woman who would act that way towards him. It was a pleasant read but aggravating too.
Two people with a past history are thrown together. Bruce, a CHAIM agent agrees to protect Salena who is a missionary nurse in Argentina. He goes in to retrieve her from a drug cartel that has attacked the clinic.
The story is one of intrigue, mystery, and underlying tensions between Bruce and Salena. Can either one trust the other? Salena's life is constantly threatened and keeping her alive becomes more difficult than he imagined.
Code of Honor kept me guessing most of the time. I did finally start to figure out who the real villain was toward the end of the book. Well thought out plot, great characters, and lots of action.
We meet CHAIM secret agent, Brice Whelan in this book. Brice is Italian and lives in Italy and Georgia. Right now he's there trying to win back the respect of the woman he secretly loves after forcing her to leave a very tense situation in Argentina. Their relationship grows tenser after her car is bombed and her father orders that she will be under 24-hour protection with Brice as her bodyguard. She warms up to her college friend after a while, but then things get really tense.
I pretty much figured out "who" from the beginning, but was very interested in following this to see how it all plays out. I liked the romance and how they had a bit of trouble coming together with his job and her independent spirit. Brice was able to rush to her rescue without coming on too strong. I think this should satisfy most readers.
I like how the author uses words from the language and gives each man his own tongue. Pastor Dev from the first book was just plain American and spoke like it. In the second book, I loved Eli's Cajun use of language, and in this book Brice used some Italian talk. It gives each of them a different spin, though they are all wonderful protectors of their women!
Selena Carter is rescued from a missionary clinic that has been attacked. Brice Whelan is both her hero and best friend. The attackers follow her home to Altanta, and bomb her car, make threats, and try to drown her. She can't tell Brice the truth about what she believes happened in Argentina (but she doesn't offer a believable reason). Brice is supposed to be the super secret agent who belongs to a pretend organization. He never uses the organization's resources. Instead, Selena goes on the internet, and finds supposedly top secret information posted where even she can find it. The writing style is pleasant, although it doesn't promote vivid mental images. The characters spend too much time thinking and not enough time doing. I also recommend Stars Shine After Dark.
True love. 2 friends that realize God has given them true love. Brice is beautifully Irish. I can here his brogue. Selena is a strong beautiful woman who hates to ask for help and finds it even harder to ask Brice for help. The Lord puts them together and has them work together. Great story, I could have gone for more!
The heroine in this book had me mad the entire time. Her pride and stupidity are too huge. Really, the heck was she thinking the entire time? The guy is a saint.
