The Grey Wolf

Rate this book
Orphaned at the age of six in a hold war, Hamdan was raised by a Native Gramoan woman, Vaywin. He has followed the Islamic faith to the best of his ability without his parents to guide him in a country where the majority are Christians.

As an adult who goes by Dan, he only wishes for four things: to be a shopkeeper in the city of Nantret, save for Hajj, find a Muslim wife, and make sure Vaywin is cared for when she grows older. Certain things in his past need to stay buried and gone forever.

After two vicious murders in a nearby village, some think a notorious murderer known as the Grey Wolf is back. Some consider him to be just a story, and others think he was a serial killer that simply vanished or met his own grisly end.

When the local Baron sends Dan to investigate the murders, he finds himself dealing with far more than a simple killer who preys on random victims. Someone knows too much about his past, and they aren't content to let him leave it behind.

The Grey Wolf may be a story, but assassins are real, and someone has put a hit on Dan’s life. He'll soon learn that the worst killers aren't always those who remain in people's memories and become a thing of nightmares.

Sometimes, the worst are those who remain unknown.

An exciting fantasy

Hamdan, or Dan to this friends, was orphaned as a kid when soldiers attacked his village. Brought up by Vaywin who teaches him how to fight, as a adult he is noticed by the local baron when again his town is attacked by another group. Recognising him as an accomplished fighter the Baron sends him on a mission to find the legendary Grey Wolf. But nothing is what is seems. As new friends are found and enemies made, a host of secrets come to light that effects Dan and his future until it all accumulates into a nerve wracking conclusion where Dan might not survive. This is set in the same universe as the Jack’s Reign series but as a standalone with totally new characters and like the Jack’s Reign series this is wonderfully written with a great descriptive writing style. I definitely recommend you all read this.

Perfect

This was very interesting, I was blown away by the details of every fight that took place.
Well written story, and a mind grabbing storyline of a man named Dan hired to investigate murders and lure out the killer.
This is by far the best.

Always such a fan of this author. Such an interesting plot. Dan the main character being hired to solve these murders. Figuring out who the killer is! Kept me addicted! I am not going to spoil! I highly recommend this! Very well done!

I love the stories and characters of this prolific author, who seems to produce good work very regularly. In this one, the main character is a Muslim guy who has some well-developed skills and well-kept secrets, but we come to like him, especially since some of the people in his world are less than stellar. It's well-written and moves along well - good job, author!

Again, she proves herself as a diverse author with a new subject. I thought this was quite thrilling and I'm glad I picked it up even though i don't read loads of mystery stuff

Another fantastic alternate earth read!

Another fantastically written book by the author. I've read a few by this author now, and this one doesn't disappoint with plenty of twists, turns, and intertwining stories.
I enjoyed learning about Dan and his background, which brought me into the story even more. Can't wait to read more from this author in the near future.

A secret life

A nice story well written. It had action, suspense, betrayal, and family love. Julie Mannino writes interesting entertaining stories that pulls the reader into the story following the characters through each scene.

Mannino’s Alternative Earth series continues apace. In this one there is lots of tension, a complicated plot, and interesting characters, all very well done. I enjoyed the way one is pulled into the story, and as fantasy goes, it's well worth a read.

Really held my attention

The author kept me turning pages, I figured out the twist, but doubted myself, haha. Although not my normal genre, it was a quick read that I enjoyed. I'd recommend it.

I binged this book. It was different from her normal work, but it was done really well. Dan was such a likeable character who stuck with his principles and values even in the end. I wasn't expecting a certain character at the end, but I won't say who.

I thought this was great because it was a good thriller, but it also cool to see a Muslim as the good guy for change. It's get tiring to see them always stuck in the position of bad guy/terrorist/villian. It's so old and nasty.

Dan was a likeable character, not perfect, but like a real human whose made mistakes and strives to be better even though no one else was a Muslim and Vaywin tried to make him give up his faith as a kid.

Impressive, well-developed story about a young man determined to be true to himself while discovering uncomfortable truths about his past and a very real threat to himself in the present. Good read!
