Holy smokes.... what did I just read! Slade Cruz is the hotter than the sun bully boy, in this fabulously sexy High school novel. He sure as heck wasn’t expecting skylah. she’s been to hell and back and isn’t about to take his crap. When these two get together there’s enough sexual tension to boil a pot!
5* is the most I can give unfortunately, cause if I could I would give it 10!!!
The first chapter kind of threw my opinion of the book into the drain to be completely honest. The Leading Lady is like no other girl they have seen... anyone else tired of the LL being so different and unlike any other girl? Author went as far to claim she was the only one in the school with her specific blonde hair color O.o seriously... you're still a blonde! If you're going to make her unique make her hair blue or pink or purple or mermaid something not blonde.
We are introduced to her I guess BFF in the book Maze in the same chapter and she remarks that Maze is the only natural Brunette in the school... seriously where are they going to school where there is 1 single brunette?
The Leading Lady just seems so damn hostile to everyone! She is "at war" with everyone. Who declares war everytime someone gets in your face? Her overall attitude to people ended up annoying me 20% in and I skimmed the book the rest of the way hoping eventually I would find something I liked but alas I did not. Shitty female "Friendships", shitty interacts between the Hero and Leading Lady, shitty brother sister relationship dynamics... over all shitty.
I think this series will be hands down the best Sheridan has ever given us. Skylah is a boss b**ch and has got to be the most bada** female character I’ve ever read. You can’t help but want to be her friend. She a ride or die type of girl and you need her on your team. Slade in the other hand is ruthless, cocky and a character you will love to hate. Well at least until Sky’s secrets slowly get revealed. Then the boy you love to hate turns into the boy you want to get his girl. Sky and Slade are like fire and dynamite. Their chemistry is explosive and you are just waiting to see who gets burned. I can’t wait for the next book cause I know this series with be epic.
Oh my god, this brings so many emotions out. You won't know if you want to scream or cry. Skylah has been through so much, when she and her brother take off to her Aunts house. Slade makes her first day H***. She don't back down, but her brother Blake wants her to try and make friends. They want a new start, but can they get one? Can she run from the past? Why is Slade and Damian constantly in her face? Can she trust Maze and be friends with her? What about these other girls that give her the stink eye? Will her past come out? Can she run from her the old life or will they come for her? Its a roller coaster story you will not want to put down.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The author of the Broken Hill Series and Haven Falls Series has once again created a world that has me begging for more. Skylah is a badass chick who refuses to back down, in fact she steps up to show them who's in charge. I absolutely adore the bond between Skylah and her brother (they are both heartwarming and hilarious in their banter... and they have surprising connections to another Sheridan Anne series that I love). Slade is an overbearing, basketball playing, alpha who doesn't know how to handle the new chick in town. There are trigger warnings at the beginning of the book so if child abuse/assault is something that could potentially trigger you, then this might not be the book for you. And while it does touch on some heavy subjects, the book wasn't overly emotional. This does end on a cliff hanger, but the next book will hopefully be ready a few weeks after the release of book 1, so you won't have to wait long.
This is a great book with a major twist. You get wrapped into this fierce main character, Skylah. She is a badass that doesn’t let anyone boss her around. Slade is the bully that tries to intimidate her but it’s more challenging than he thinks. I can’t wait to continue reading about Skylah and Slade.
And just like that Sheridan Anne has me hooked on a new series.
Slade and and Skylah’s love story is messy and unpredictable. It had me completely hooked and my heart breaking for everything that Skylah had been through and let me tell you that girl has been through some horrific crap that no one should ever experience.
Sheridan Anne is know for bringing the drama, the twists and turns you never see coming and an epic cliffhanger and once again she delivered.
Omg my mind is blown. that ending completely blew my head to bits and left me wondering around in a daze. With such strong characters in Skylah and Blake plus also in slade and Damien. The story is like a mine field of explosive twists and turns that will leave you wanting to cry with the bad things that happened to Skylah I'm the past. To also the intense ride that goes on between her and Slade which leads you to an epic cliff you will be left high dangling from hoping everything will work out. Totally love this book and still I can't get over how intense and emotional it made me throughout. Can't wait for the next book just hope I can keep my head in one piece.
I did not know going into Ugly Girl what to expect. It was not this. So much happens here, so when you sit down to read this. Hang on tight, it’s a wild ride.
Wow wow wow! Bully romance at its finest. I devoured this book. Right from the start you will love Sky and Slade. What an brilliant couple that have all the angst, games and fight you could want. The story develops from a simple bully tug of war to a full suspenseful ride where things aren't always as they seem. It was raw, emotional and definitely gave me the chills in parts. The characters had spunk and were all developed and immensely interesting. It's a beautiful story and I need book two like now! Sky isn't a push over and gives as good as she gets. I loved her attitude and it made her character fierce and strong. She's an inspiration! Sheridan Anne has given us a fantastic bully romance that will have you laughing, crying, smiling and cringing in the best possible ways. Loved it and it's right up there for in my list of best bully romance books I've ever read.
Once again Sheridan ruins me with this gem!!! Book hangover here I come!
No joke this book is a must read!! Holy shit.
Skylah, the ultimate heroine with her bad self, has been through hell and back and refuses to back down to anyone including the hot and intense Slade Cruz. When these two meet, it’s an instant intense battle of wills and sexual tension cause hot damn!!!
Such an amazing read. I devoured this book in one sitting that’s how captivating it was. With tense chemistry, dark elements, intrigue why wouldn’t you want to read this?
What a major cliffhanger! Ugh! I was busy enjoying this book and when I get to the *gasp* part, the next page is “Thanks for reading” what the ?!@&$ and to think that the next book won’t be available until April 22, 2020. Well, I can wait for a freaking 2 weeks and a half. And please don’t tell me it’ll be another cliffhanger because this series was intended to have 4 fan-freaking-tastic books! Guess I just have to wait it all out. For the mean time, I’ll just be reading the Haven Falls series.
Hmm, how to review “Ugly Girl” - I can give you bits and pieces but this review will for sure get an “updated” one because I still can’t moved on from it. There are so many thrills and revelations. I viewed Skylah’s character as a 3 dimentional while Slade’s a 2. I felt Skylah’s pain, her struggles and fears and still choose to survive everyday. Whereas Slade, I didn’t get a chance to know him in this book. It was all from Skylah’s POV which may make sense in the future because Skylah is introducing us to her world and situation slowly.. and I won’t be surprise if the author would give Slade his own POV in the next book/s because he deserves a damn spotlight so we can fully understand this boy’s charm.
Maze, Skylah’s new friend at a new school, suits her name just well because she’s like a freaking LOST puppy when the tension is there. I don’t even like how chatty and two-faced she is. Skylah shouldn’t have given her a second chance for what she did to her.
Blake’s character may be a “one in a million”, I admire him for his brotherly-love to Skylah but good thing, this is fiction if not then I’ll get annoyed at him. He’s just too good to be true.
Damian, the sidekick.. I just dont know what his purpose is. And his role for when Skylah wants to forget everything. Well, F me. I was cringing the whole time. I didn’t expect that. But some of you might enjoy it. 😂 (Just read the freaking book and you’ll know what I mean!!!)
This book will be available in Amazon on April 7, 2020 (if im not mistaken!) and I promise you, your $4 is worth it!
I got a free copy from Booksprout! Where else? I subscribed to this author and everytime she has a new book, Booksprout hits my inbox!
This was a fantastic start to a series and once again, I am already chomping at the bit for the next one. Another feisty heroine who takes no shit and an alpha, in the form of Slade that you cannot help but hate to love.
Skylah has been through a lot of crap and this has made her strong, and boy does she need it. Slade doesn't make it easy for her, but Skylah gives it back just as much. This was a great read and one that I cannot wait to read more of.
At first, I thought this was going to be another cliché bully romance but wow was I wrong. I decided to give it a try because of the high rating it had and I was glad that I did. The writing started off pretty bland, but it improved as I continued reading and so did the story.
This story was really unique and it definitely wasn't your average bully high school romance. It actually had a lot of depth and secrets. I really enjoyed reading about how Skylah was on the run from her mobster adopted father and how she and Slade slowly got to know each other.
My only criticisms are that the book was too short and I didn't like how Skylah's secrets kept being accidentally exposed to the entire school (that wasn't very believable). I am really looking forward to reading the sequel because the cliffhanger was cruel. I'm dying to know more!
Couldnt finish it. The amount of cliches were disturbing.
It felt like I was reading the author's plan on what every charcter would do and be, it didnt felt like a story, and it was really weird. Some girl walks in a new high school and boom! the bully comes to her out of no where and she is like "your days are over dude" while thinking probably he has abs and V shape (and not see it, but lets tell the cliche cause this is how supposed to be right?) and than some girl comes in and boom! 13 words and they are best friens, I mean come on.
It's like somebody took all high school bully romance books in to one fast pace unreal story, and it wasn't a good story.
I'm going to try to write this without spoilers but we'll see how that goes...
Damn that was intense! Take Sheridan seriously when she says this is a dark bully romance. The things that Skylah has had to see and go through by the age of 17 are horrific, tragic, and downright fucked up! Her past would have left most others in a crumpled mess on the floor but she was a feisty "boss bitch" that I loved from the beginning. She's a super cool chick who won't start shit for no reason and will stay out of people's business but don't cross her. She never backs down from a fight and pushes back against anyone who dares to go at her. Then there is Slade. The hot as sin, asshole, star athlete who ruled the school. There's definitely something more to him that he doesn't let others see and Sky just keeps peeling back those layers. I definitely need to see more of these two together. I loved the conflict between them, which was more like foreplay.
I also loved Slade's BFF Damian. He had that loveable boy toy vibe with a dark side when you fucked with him or the people he cares for. I can't wait to get more of his cocky and downright dirty humor. Then there is Blake, Sky's younger brother who you have to love. He's fiercely loyal and will do anything to protect her. Can't say more about them or others because of spoilers.
My on!y real issues is that everything happens quickly over a short period of time and I wish the story took place over a longer chunk of time.before feelings developed. But basically if you like dark, fucked up books, have no triggers, and like the feeling of having an anxiety attack for most of the story then this is the book for you!
Keep in mind, this is part of a series and ends on a cliffhanger.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Day one at Aston creek high and the king of the school is up in her face.
She's not afraid to stand upto him. He doesn't intimidate her. She's going to show him who's boss.
She isn't what he expected. She's going to be a hard one to break... but fear not they all crumble at his feet sooner or later.
Game on folks...!!
This ladies and gents is the book we have all been waiting for!
It is a totally unique read within the bully trope, and will more than stand out from the crowd.
Skylar will make your heart soar, for she has the grit, determination and ferocity of a lioness.
Her past has toughened her up, and now she's more than willing to bring pain and suffering to all that cross her.
I wouldn't want to be on her bad side that's for sure!
Slade has the swagger, the girls and the skill on the court to wow everyone, but there is darkness that lurks within him.
He's an amazingly addictive kind of character. I couldn't get enough of his taunts and comebacks.
Together they are like fire and ice, get too close and both will destroy you!
Sheridan Anne has produced a read that is out of this world amazing and everything I ever wanted and needed in a book and it's only just the beginning!
This series is one to want, need and definitely book time off from the world to devour!
OMG! Where should I even start? This book made me laugh, ugly cry, and want to smash someone's head's badly. Why did Sky have to go through so much? She is one of the strongest characters I have ever encountered, and I love how she takes no bulls**t from anyone. She won't let anyone walk over her, and she is ready to punch back when you least expect it. Slade. Slade is a d**khead, no doubt. He has been an asshole from chapter 1, but even though at the end we get to know why, I still want to shake him and make him realize what there is in front of his eyes. Damian is perfect. He is Slade's best friend, and I've claimed him for me. Sheridan Anne already knows, and she also knows I'm willing to fight for him ;). I hope Lucien and Anton gets what they deserve, and who knew that I could be that bloodthirsty? I'm also glad the thing with Maze ended the way it ended. Loyalty is the first thing in a friendship. What else can I say? I need the second book ASAP as it might be that Sheridan will have to pay for my book addiction recovery that she caused.
I kindly received an ARC from the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.
WTF did I just read?! I was head over heels in love with Skylah by chapter five and by chapter six, I was so far gone into the group at Aston Creek that I forgot it was a book. There are tear your heart out moments and tear your clothes off moments. There's hate and heat, fire and ice. And the ending...OH MY GOD, the ending. Skylah is the girl we all wish we could be but with a story that will gut you. Slade is the guy we all wish would come into our room. There's nothing I can say to prepare you for this story but I can tell you that your life is incomplete without it. Sheridan Anne created a world that makes me wish I could go back to high school.
*I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review*
This was only slightly saved by the fact that we at least didn't get the 'traitorous body' cliché. We did, however, get an abundance of all the other to-be-expected clichés.
The "Not Like Most Girls" Heroine Our heroine (Sky) is just SO unlike any other girl, to the point where she is literally the only one with a very specific shade of blonde hair. She, of course, will be the first to ever say no to the hero (Slade). We will, most definitely, slut shame and be judgmental AF of every other female in this book excluding the standardized BFF.
BFF complimenting our heroine, who has taken "30 seconds" to get ready: "Bullshit, it's what happens when someone doesn't give a shit about dressing up for anyone. You look naturally sexy which is going to gain every guy's attention while all the other chicks look fake with big cock sucking lips."
Sky about to speak/meet Slade for the first time and thinking: There's nothing I like more than taking down a queen, but a king? I can't say I've done that before, but damn it, I'm so up for the challenge. Especially if he's going to come at me, then he better be prepared because I'm not like the basic bitches he's used to here.
Sky thinking about her 'oh so natural and unique' hair colour: Recalling that nearly every girl I walked past on my short walk down the corridor was either platinum blonde or had perfectly dyed hair either red or brunette. Not one of them look like me, but that's the way I like it.
Sky seeing Slade's on/off girlfriend for the first time: She's nothing special but from the look of her, she seems like the kind to act first, think later. A bit like me, really. Though I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover but sometimes human nature shines brighter and a girl just can't help it. I decide pretty damn quickly that I don't like her and that's all the thought I put into it before she's put to the back of my mind.
Sky walking up a pathway to the front door at a party: Upon seeing me walking down the pathway, most of the party guests step out of my way and i grin knowing that I've made some sort of impact in Aston Creek.
I get the feeling I'm supposed to believe Sky is such a "badass" but for some reason my eyes just keep rolling to the back of my head. Maybe it's just me.
Kids Acting Like Adults Because in what world do 16/17 YEAR OLD KIDS act and behave like adults. The adults in this book are basically only there to further the plot. They don't have any actual involvement in the kids lives or the book in general, excluding our 'big bad villain' of course. There is also the standard parties, drug & alcohol use, and screwing like porn stars.
Blake (the brother) stalks past Shaylee (the Aunt and "adult figure") and she laughs at his back before bringing her questioning gaze back to me. "Where's he going?" "Chilling with some of the boys on his team, but don't worry. I gave him a curfew. He'll be home by ten."
Look, you've got to suspend disbelief with this one because this is one heck of a train wreck bound for crazy town BUT our heroine is 17 and her little brother is 16.
The Broody "Asshole" Hero Surprisingly, I didn't hate the hero. I mean I didn't like him either, he's just really forgettable. We get the usual hate-you-the-first-day but are obviously attracted to each other. He actually didn't really DO anything other than speak threats to her - "you don't belong here, I'm gonna make your life miserable, I don't like you" etc. Once we get the explanation for the hate we then get the 180 flip and they're going to be BFF's. Lovely. At least the reason for him being so threatening was sort of valid so there's that.
Cue ALL The Eye Rolls + Minor Spoilers Ahead It took me over 50% to stop constantly rolling my eyes at this. To be fair SOME of the plot had me curious. I will say the way a certain aspect of this was handled - not a fan. Like at all. I won't say exactly what happens but trigger warning: for rape and abuse. I can appreciate the authors attempt at creating a survivor, not a victim, but it just didn't work. The heroine comes off as so obnoxious and full of herself it is really hard to empathize with her. Not to mention the way she behaves, in general and sexually, it just didn't feel ... real? Right? Believable? I don't even know how to describe it. Whatever the author was trying to attempt, I am obviously not getting.
Final Thoughts I didn't expect a lot from this, as with most dark high school romances nowadays. I enjoy reading these when they are done well, i.e. have at least some originality, solid story lines and aren't stale with all the usual clichés.
Will I continue on with this series? Possibly ... if I didn't have anything else to read.
I thought that no book could top the Broken Hill series or Haven Falls series but holy smokes am I stoked that I am wrong! This book gave me ALL THE FEELS!! Skylah and her brother Blake move to a new town to start a new life with family that they didn’t even know that they had. They have overcome a tragic past and gotten away from their adoptive parents who wanted to use them as pawns in their sick games. Skylah is a kick ass and takes no prisoners kind of girl and I love her! She is such an awesome character! When she meets Slate Cruz, she has met her match. He tries his best to make her leave but Skylah is not having it! She fights him with everything she has! There are many questions that she has about her and her brothers past she wants to try and figure it all out. I’m not going to give anything else away but I will tell you PREPARE YOURSELF FOR A CLIFFHANGER!! Omg! It is jaw dropping but this book is so worth it! Ugly Girl, is not about a girl who feels ugly or has many insecurities, it’s about the ugliness of what she has had to endure. Sheridan Anne did a fabulous job on this book and I cannot wait for the second book!
I really enjoy this book, even if the all Highschool bully trope is really getting tired on me, I have a couple that still lingers on me.
This book was really good, so why not 5 stars? Well...
This book is about a girl, Skylah, who happens to run away of a real fucked up past, and starts at new city, new highschool in the middle of the school year, to get her new fresh start. The school obviously, have a King. A basketball star King, and he's dark and hot and totally intimidating and they have an instant connection/hate.
Sounds familiar?
Cause to me, it was like read a fanfic of Boys of Brayshaw High, with different names, a few changes here and there, but also a lot of similarities, like his a basketball star who runs the show inside and outside the courts, she's broken but fierce, is trying to forget her past and rape... Also only sleeps with her knife under her pillow.
Even the timeline is really like the book by Meagan Brandy, which I had love, but wasn't expecting to read another one so equal.
I really hope that the others change this pace, and get on it's own legs, because that end is really good for a change. I will keep that in mind.
No, just no.. this was stupid. So this chick is 17 and she runs away from the guy who killed her parents and abducted her when she was 4. This man has a lot of money, he is powerful and he raped her and also he is going to give her to a business partner for money. So what does this girl do? she enrolled in high school with her name, she acts like a badass, like she is trying to have everyone's attention, even though she is afraid that her father/ abductor is gonna come after her. Very smart, indeed! I'm suddenly bored so I'm not gonna spend another second with this book. maybe if I were 12 I would have thought that this deserves my time, but I'm not, so...
Wow 🤩 what a book 📖 it completely had me hooked , captivated and engrossed from first chapter.....😊 Skylah wow 😮 what can I say about her apart from she is a kick butt kinda attitude that she has to have to protect herself from the evil that she has came into contact with from a young age ,she shows from the first day of senior year that she want back down , she will stand her ground and show people she want be trampled on.....go skylah I say ..👌🏻🙌🏻 and ohhh boy Slade is a yummy , gorgeous , hardass , badass, overbearing Alpha male that is used to bending people to his will😏but Skylah is not having any of it and stands up to him and fights him toe to toe ......there sexual tension between them is off the chart😋 will they want they ....well you just have to read the awesome book 📖 ....omg the ending wow 😮 wasn’t expecting that at all what a cliff hanger .....can’t wait for next one , this series has now become my new addiction 😊 Ohhhh by way there are trigger warnings at beginning of book 📖 so if abuse both physically and sexual are something that could upset you then heed the warnings ....although there are parts that are emotional and traumatic for Skylah she just deals with it with such badass attitude that you can’t help with fall in love with her ..... I love 💓 this series already ...bring on book 📖 2 love it love I love it ❤️
This book was so good… up until the fmc’s best friend f*cked the mmc and the fmc took the "friend" back. Like what the actual heck?! This supposedly bad*ss fmc let’s her "friend" f*ck the mmc and she’s okay with it?? And the fact that she doesn’t address it with the mmc and melts whenever he’s around??
"Ugly Girl" by Sheridan Anne is a raw and unflinching exploration of pain, resilience, and the quest for self-worth. The protagonist's journey through bullying, betrayal, and the darker sides of human nature is both heart-wrenching and empowering. Sheridan Anne doesn't shy away from depicting the harsh realities her character faces, making the story all the more impactful. The narrative is intense and emotionally charged, with moments that will both break your heart and make you root for the protagonist's strength and growth.
When I’m in the mood for a high school tone, drama filled, fast paced read filled with secrets ~Sheridan Anne is a go to for me.
I liked the tough heroine and her pranks. I wanted more of the hero however since it’s just the POV of the h that’s expected. I was intrigued by the h mafia past and thought that added another dimension to the story. There were some plot holes and I felt some of the dialogue was odd.
It was a fun read with enemies to more, family and school drama, and twists and turns.
Ugly Girl is a heart-wrenching and emotional story of triumph over tragedy. Simply a great read that delivers all that it promises and more!
Skylah and her brother Blake have had a heartbreaking childhood that can only be described as a roller coaster ride of craziness. After escaping a terrible situation, they reconnect with their only living relative and move back to their home town hoping for a fresh start. The story begins on their first day of school at Aston Creek High. Skylah has been through so much that she's developed a tough shell to protect herself. She's expecting the worst and finds exactly that. When she meets the king of Aston high, Slade Cruz and his best friend Damian, sparks fly! He appears to hate her on sight and seems determined to push all of her buttons. From that point, it's game on! She is determined to stand her ground, especially with Slade Cruz. She puts up with the insults and the mean girls and gives back as good as she gets.Trust is challenged and betrayals exposed. The sexual tension between the two was palpable! The surprises keep coming as the story progresses. It seems there is way more going on than meets the eye.
I was completely moved by this story. The author is very conscientious in the way she portrays sensitive issues. Her ability to bring these characters to life as the story unfolds kept me on the edge of my seat! While this story has emotional elements, the author perfectly balances it out with happy times, sexy times and grab you by the heart times. I couldn't tell what was going to happen from one chapter to the next. There were twists and turns a plenty! There is a little bit of everything in this book. Romance, action, suspense and mystery. I've read several of Sheridan Ann's Books, and although this one is a bit more intense, they never disappoint! She has a way of telling a story that draws you in and makes you fall in love with her characters! The reason for 4 stars as opposed to 5 is only because I like to know when a book has a part 2 before I begin. I was surprised by the cliff hanger. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book! Well worth the read!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I'm on book one and I already have a new favorite series of Sheridan Anne's. If you have read Broken Hill High and then Haven falls, and thought it couldn't get better.. You're wrong this series is going to be the best one yet. Ugly Girl sucked me in from page one. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I knew that this was my kind of book as soon as I read the the intro, but don't be deceived the person you won't be able to get enough of is Skylah.
Her need to protect everyone around her when she has already been through her fair share of terrible events made me love her even more. I love her relationship with her brother, and how he try's to protect her even if he is younger.
Then there's Slade and he is EVERYTHING. READ THIS BOOK. I promise you will not be disappointed in anything other than having to wait for the next one to come out because holy CLIFFHANGER. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Until then I may just have to read Ugly Girl again!
