Once he was a Marine. Now he's the world's most notorious thief. But when the woman he's fallen for is kidnapped, this charismatic criminal must become a hero again. Buckle up for the new scorching, standalone romantic suspense from NYT bestselling author Helena Newbury.

Gabriel Kain. Sinfully gorgeous and ferociously smart. Once a Marine, he's now the world's most notorious thief. From the second he's brought into the prison infirmary as my patient, the attraction is off the charts. He's like no man I've ever met: hypnotic and masterful, he sees through all my defenses and his growly, teasing voice leaves me a weak-kneed mess. But he's a prisoner: one kiss and I'll lose my job. When I see his Marines tattoo, he tells me he's no hero. But the closer we get, the more I'm sure there's good in him.

Months later, while doing charity work in Ecuador, I'm captured by a drug cartel. With the government unable to help and time running out, all seems lost. But help comes from a guardian angel I never expected. Gabriel cuts a deal with the authorities, assembles a ragtag team of former military badasses and risks his life to come and rescue me. Deep in the rainforest, our feelings build and build and those molten hazel eyes burn the clothes right off my body. Can I let myself fall for a criminal? And when the mission goes wrong, will Gabriel be the cold-hearted thief he claims, or the hero I know he can be?

Standalone romantic suspense, guaranteed HEA, no cheating

Gosh! I love Helena Newbury's books. She is the queen of romantic suspense romances. Her books are always like a big adventures with epic one-of-a-kind HEA's.
Every one of her books are different, unique and so much action-packed that it takes your breath away.

This book is all of that and so much more.
This book is Gabriel's and Olivia's story.
It's an insta-love story that's so unlike anything I've read before.

The beginning of the book is definitely unusual, but it still didn't prepare me for what was to come.
I envisioned various scenarios of how the story would continue, but I wasn't prepared for the avalanche of events after the first 7 chapters, which felt like a heartbreaking goodbye for a very long time.

I love the characters who aren't flawless, but full of doubts from the injustices they've experienced and the hopelessness that follows.
Their relationship got off with an unusual start and was doomed from the start, or so I thought.
What followed was a wild adventure chase through Ecuador jungle and an action-packed fight for survival.

I wouldn't go into more detail, I don't want to spoil the incredibly suspenseful story, but one thing is for sure. Helena has once again managed to write an incredibly gripping, beautiful and unique love story. I love every single second of this exciting book.

Oh one more thing, we also meet a lot of the characters from previous books in this story.
It's incredibly exciting to see how their relationships have evolved.

I was instantly intrigued by the prison setting! Olivia is a prison doctor, and the devilish Gabriel is her patient.

But Gabriel is so much more than a normal prisoner. You see he has a particular set of skills! These skills are why Olivia and Gabriel find themselves in South America on the run from... Well Alot. This book is so much more than a romance between Olivia and Gabriel. Helena Newbury has written a book that has a lot of parts and pieces you would find in an exciting action movie.

Gabriel tries to remain the "bad guy", but he is conflicted by the feelings he has for the good doctor. This book is a thriller, and the ending was so satisfying. I absolutely loved it!

I was lucky to get an ARC of this book and wow is it amazing! The first chapter I was curious where it was going because I had no clue how Gabriel would get out. As the book went on I was hooked and could not put it down. With some books you can guess where the author is going with some of the sub plots and have an idea what is going to happen next. Helena is such a gifted writer that I had no clue what was going to happen next! All of my guesses as to what could happen turned out wrong as she crafted a book in such a way that the end result was totally unexpected. Lines are blurred between what is right & wrong with a group of unsuspecting heroes emerging to become a team. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to see if there are more in the series so I can find out what happens to the other team members & learn their back story.

I have read most, if not all, of Newbury's books and I can proudly saw I have enjoyed pretty much all of them. I am a sucker for a good resume mission where the H has to save his leading lady. Swoon worthy! I can't wait for more as this book introduces many side characters that just so happen to be single.

I typically love these type of stories, but it did not work for me. It may be my mood or just that the writing style was a bit dry.
You may love it.

Wow. Once again Helena has written a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat as your heart beats too fast and you try to read faster. Gabriel is the ultimate bad boy with good looks and a savior complex which he tries to ignore. Olivia is the consummate good girl who tries to do what is right and always seems to get smacked down for her trouble. She is working as a doctor in a prison clinic after getting blackballed from hospital work for reasons I will let you discover for yourself. Gabriel is a prisoner who is brought in with a knife wound after a fight. Of course, he comes in like he is an honored guest at a ritzy hotel and steals Olivia's breath away. Which isn't much of a reach since he is just that - a thief. She knows she is out of her mind, and out of his league, but Olivia finds herself tumbling down a rabbit hole into Wonderland. Discovering that Gabriel jumped in to save another prisoner from being killed and got himself knifed for his reward, convinces Olivia that he is more than his story would lead you to believe. The almost hidden tattoo of an eagle, a globe, and an anchor tells her she doesn't know the whole story.

This is just the beginning of Gabriel and Olivia's saga. There is a prison riot, a lost job, a kidnapping, a couple of close call rescues, and even a pitched battle with Ecuadorian soldiers. We get to catch up with a few old friends, including Rufus, and meet some new heroes who, I hope, will get their own story. Through it all Gabriel teeters on the edge of an epiphany that could change his trajectory forever. A shy, pale-skinned, braver-than-she-looks doctor may bring him to his knees. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

No Angel
By Helena Newbury

Awesome Ride!
This book grabbed me from page one and didn’t let go! Gabriel Kane a former Marine and thief is spending 10 years in jail. He is torn between his desire to do good and to take care of just himself. Olivia Truesdale is the doctor at the prison he’s incarcerated at, and he meets her after being knifed by another inmate. He’s gorgeous, cocky, and proud with an air of wickedness you want to unwrap.

Olivia is a rule follower who, even at her own expense will do what is right. She has a hidden desire to be more adventurous. Gabriel is out for only himself, however, when Olivia sacrifices her job for him, he has a desperate need to pay her back when he finds out she is in trouble. Fortunately for him, he has a way out of prison. It will only cost him Forty million dollars and the next ten years of his life. Is she worth it? He wrestles with doing what’s right or doing what he’s dreamed about for the last three years in prison.

This is one exciting ride, from prison to the jungle of Ecuador. The suspense kept me turning pages into the wee hours of the morning. The story has heart pounding action, twists and turns, and swoon worthy alpha men. The intimate scenes are HOT and sweet at the same time. The characters are built to be real and not perfect. The team assembled to rescue Olivia is full of unusual and interesting characters and I want to know each of their stories. I hope there will be more stories about the men of Stormfinch Security. And WOW, does Olivia wake up to the bada$$ inside her during this journey. This is my first Helena Newbury book, and I’ve already added several of her backlist to my TBR! I love it when I find a new author I can really enjoy! I highly recommend this book!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Gabriel Kain. Everywhere he went his reputation preceded him, even in prison. Ex marine turned notorious thief, Gabriel faces a lengthy prison term. A scuffle brings him to the infirmary and that's where he meets Olivia. Olivia has been working as a doctor at the prison for a few months now, it's rewarding but nothing like the ER she was used to. Their attraction is instant, but due to unforseen circumstances, Olivia leaves the prison infirmary and Gabriel. Even though they never acted on their attraction, Gabriel is hit hard when she leaves. Previously, Gabriel had been approached by someone, former military, who now holds quite a bit of power in D.C. A man whose reputation also precedes him, but for all the right reasons. Gabriel turned down his offer. When he learns Olivia is in trouble, he's willing to do anything and everything in his power to protect her, even join forces with former military elite to save his woman and keep her safe.
FANTASTIC STORYLINE!!! NON STOP ACTION WITH LOTS OF TWISTS! COMPELLING CHARACTERS WITH RAW, REAL EMOTION! I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN, YOU DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS READ!!!

Loved the plot on this one! Interesting scene setting and I literally believed for a good part of the book that Gabriel was in prison for some undercover work and not because he deserved to be there. That dreamy and “good guy” material our hero is. And we can’t blame Olivia for falling for him and wanting him to be the good guy she desperately needs. In my opinion Gabriel was the icing on the cake and made me love this book so much. While I understand where Olivia is coming from and I emphatise with her choices, she really made me virtually scream at her why she’s making these poor decisions. Is she trying to get Gabriel killed?! But he took it like a champ, always jumping in to save the day. A book which is action packed, steamy and keeping you on the edge of you seat!

I received an advanced copy of No Angel and am volunteering this review.

The first Helena Newbury book I read was Deep Woods. It showed up as a screensaver recommendation on my kindle. I loved it and immediately went to the author’s website to see what else I could read.

I have devoured most of Helena’s books at this point and one of my favorite characteristics of her books are the reoccurring cast of characters you see throughout them.

No Angel not only gives you the suspenseful story of Gabriel and Olivia, it also introduces you to the team you get hints about in previous books and it makes me so excited for the upcoming stories about them!

No Angel takes you from prison (such a unique start to a book), to a picturesque mountain town (which you are introduced to in Mt. Mercy), and across the world!

It’s a suspenseful, action packed and epic journey for Gabriel and Olivia. Their story, combined with the introduction of the characters we haven’t seen yet, put this book at the top of my list.

If you love romantic suspense stories with reoccurring cast of characters, this author is for you. Start with No Angel, get hooked, then do what I did and go read the rest of Helena’s books. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Olivia always tries to do the right thing, but Lady Luck never shines her light on Olivia. So when she has to treat an infamous convict in the prison she’s been demoted to work in, little does she realize that once again, doing the right thing only gets her into trouble. This time, the convict in question is Gabriel Kain, a playboy whose thefts include some $400 million in gold bullion, which remains missing to this day. I won’t give any spoilers other than to say there is some cross-over with some familiar Newbury people/places. What I will say is block a good hunk of time because you will be absolutely HOOKED on this book. It’s suspenseful, sexy and exciting in equal measure. Don’t wait - read this book immediately!

Clear your day; this book grabs you fast and takes you on a ride. Gabriel is such a complex character; he runs the spectrum from bad boy to hero. His cunning ways have been successful since his school days, causing him trouble in the military, and allowing him to excel in pursuits ever since.

He meets Olivia while doing time; she is the doctor at a maximum-security prison. Both are there for reasons.

This is one of those books where discovery is the best part; the twists and turns, emotions invoked, and characters' growth is important to the story. This is my first book by this author, but not my last.

I was intrigued by the concept of this book and was trying to work out how they would get around the beginning.

I was not disappointed with the main characters. It was good to catch up with the previous characters from other books, (although it is not necessary to read them).

I am hoping we are going to get stories for all team that don't already have books.

Gabrielle and Olivia sure go through a lot in this book but do get a hea.

Gabriel & Olivia. I was immensely amused, not by the silly insta-love and the puddle-like depth of the plot, but by the way that with one glance they could perceived half the inner struggles of a lifetime in each other and - I'm almost certain - what they had for dinner the day before yesterday.

What can you say about a book that grabbed you from the very first page? About a book that you couldn’t put down. About a book that ended so well.

All I can say is that NO ANGEL is Helena Newbury’s best book to date! Admittedly I am Helena’s Number One Fan! I make no excuses about that. She has a way of involving the reader from the very first words to her last. This book is no exception.

She introduces you to the main characters in a prison where one is the prison’s infamous convict and the other is the prison doctor.

Gabriel Kain has a reputation around the “joint.” No one touches him; he makes things happen. He is a friend to some and a foe to none. He is a rogue, scoundrel, and charismatic master thief. He stole 40 million dollars of gold and has never revealed where it is.

Olivia Truesdale is the prison doctor whose integrity got her fired from being an ER doctor. Now, the only job she could find in her field was in a men’s prison.
They met in the infirmary. Sparks flew but Gabriel keeps telling her that he is no angel.

They meet again in the jungles outside of Quinto, Ecuador. He and a band of mercenary misfits have been sent to rescue the good doctor and two other kidnapped medics. Around every turn there is dangerous be it human or climate- related.

Helena Newbury brings us right into that jungle with the mismatched men and the beautiful, insecure doctor. The adventures never stop as they transverse the steamy vegetation and neither does the attraction between Gabriel and Olivia. But Gabriel can either have the gold or the woman but not both.

She also includes a few old friends from her other books. Some you would never imagine together in a story. But my favorite storyline though is how the individual men bond in a few short days into a team.

My hope is that this is only the beginning of a series written by Helena Newbury. I will be buying each one!

Love Finds a Way
Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2022
Helena Newbury has a gift of turning impossible situations into outcomes that are meant to be. For Gabriel and Olivia, that certainly seems to be the case. Olivia meets the compelling, enigmatic and charming Gabriel in prison, where she is his attending doctor. Both are at this time and place due to the circumstances of their natures. Olivia is a very kind and caring person who is a rule-follower. Her previous hospital position ended in a bad way due to false allegations from another doctor she had caught abusing pharmaceuticals. Instead of turning him in immediately, she gave him the opportunity to do so himself, thereby giving him the time to manufacture evidence against her. The prison hospital still allows her to practice medicine, despite the false claims. Gabriel is more of a diamond-in-the-rough kind of guy. He is wicked smart, beautiful, full of life, charm and power. He is also an exceptional thief, which is why he has landed in prison. Being a guy with a bit of a hero complex (former Marine), looking out for another prisoner is what lands him in the clinic with an injury. There is an instant connection between the two. This compelling attraction leads to choices that are made to protect each other during a prison riot and ultimately leads Olivia on a collision course with danger in South America, with Gabriel desperate to follow her. This desperation leads him to making a deal with an unlikely (and familiar!) ally, giving him his second chance at freedom, being a part of a team again and with the resources he needs to rescue Olivia. All he needs to do now is give up his $400 million dollar nest egg he has stashed to begin his new life. Just how deep does that good guy streak really go? And will he be in time to save Olivia no matter what he chooses?

What a brilliant start to this new series, some old characters and some new ones, a mismatched team that compliment each other perfectly. Once again Helena Newbury has hit the jackpot with this book, it has everything, romance, suspense and a HEA.

This is Gabriel and Olivia's story.

Gabriel had once been a marine, but when he got dishonourably discharged he turned to crime, he was a high-end thief, and he was currently serving a 10-year sentence for stealing $400M gold bullion, he had served three years and just had to sit tight for a further seven and he would be rich. That was until he got into a fight and was taken to the prison hospital and saw Olivia, from the first time he saw her he knew that he wanted her.

Olivia was working as a doctor in the Prison hospital after being set up at her last job and it was the only place she could work. It was fine till a riot got out of hand and Gabriel was being set up to take the blame, so she stood up for him, and ended up being fired. Eventually, she got a job with a charity and had to go to check on a field hospital in Ecuador.

This is where the book really begins, after she got kidnapped, Gabriel got an offer to go and get her back as long as he joined the team for 10 years and gives up the location of the gold, he would do anything for her so agreed, thinking he could double cross them.

This is such a fast-paced book, you won't want to put it down, the words just flow and flow, and there is so much to it that it deserves more than 5 stars. I would recommend reading all of Helena's books they are brilliant.

It was easy to get drawn into this story with how flirty and charismatic Gabriel was. He's the type of H that makes a strong first impression and it keeps going throughout the book. One of my favourite things about his character was how he continued to toe the line of right and wrong, he was a thief and a non-hero after all, so it was refreshing to have a morally grey character who remained that for some time. He ultimately becomes the hero that Olivia knows he is and that was just as enjoyable.

Olivia was an interesting character, she's slightly naive and having now twice done the right thing only to punished for someone else's actions Newsbury has done a great job of creating that image of a sweet and innocent character. When thrown into the events of the book she keeps her caring nature and becomes a daring risk taker as she fights for her way home and the men who came to save her.

The plot of this book is action packed and full of suspense. I was already enjoying it when it was set in the prison but once the setting changed and the action started, I couldn't put this one down.

If this book is an accurate taste of Newbury's writing style and the stories, she creates I'll be reading more of them. Also, I really liked Gabriel and Olivia's relationship, so I'm hoping to see more of it in other books.

Just finished reading Helena Newbury’s No Angel and it was so good!
Gabriel used to be a Marine, the good guy. But when unfortunate circumstances happen and he is out, he becomes a notorious thief. He successfully avoids capture for years but eventually he gets caught and heads to prison. In prison he meets Olivia, the prison doctor, and the attraction is instant! She knows he’s a good guy deep down but he’s certain he’s nothing but a thief.
After she is no longer employed by the Prison, Olivia heads to Ecuador with a new job. While trying to help injured people she gets kidnapped. Who better to help her escape than our fallen angel Gabriel. What he thinks will be a quick in and out becomes surprisingly complicated, full of twists and turns.
Throughout the book Gabriel has an internal battle with himself. Is he really the good guy Olivia thinks him to be, or is he just a thief?
This book didn’t let me put it down. There were so many surprises throughout that it kept my attention and the spice was just enough to keep me excited.
Helena Newbury continues to write great books that make me want more.

Gabriel and olivia's story is an action packed filled with suspense, nail biting with attraction all thrown into one.

At first for me it started out a little slow but I soon got sucked right in. I kept turning page after page wondering what made Gabriel the way he is. What decision is he going to make to win the woman meant for him. Will he prove to her that's he's what she believes him to be.

And Olivia, stubborn with insecurities, a love for helping people even with everything handed to her and the betrayal she faced. Will she let Gabriel in and get him to see and believe how she perceives him to be.

To be honest once I received this book as an ARC, it hooked me. I devoured it in less than 5 hours. I just could not put it down. The only thing that bothered me about the book is that it mentions olivia has brothers who are fiercely protective of her but they never show up. Just mentioned. And with what happens with olivia i thought for sure we would get a chance to meet them but alas that was not the case. This does not in any way detract from the story. So do not let that stop you from reading!

I'm very much looking forward to the next book Helena Newbury writes.

An Enjoyable, Wild Ride

Ok, so you think you're going to read a story about how a prison doctor Olivia falls under the spell of a charismatic inmate Gabriel -- who is incarcerated for stealing 400 million dollars in gold bullion. But realizing their attraction for each other will go nowhere, she takes a job in Ecuador. And she gets kidnapped.

Former Marine Raider Gabriel, calls in a favor. He takes an offer and gets released from prison so he can join a private black ops team and he can rescue Olivia. What ensues is a slightly over the top, wild chase through the Ecuador jungle. Its one thing after another, where rescuing Olivia was the easiest part.

Will Gabriel try to escape so he can go after the gold he hid before going to prison? Or will he falling for Olivia and being part of the team make him want something more than money?

This is an enjoyable action story. Kind if insta-lovey. The love scenes in the middle of the jungle are pretty entertaining, all things considered. A fun read that doesn't take itself too seriously.

I love that Gabriel Kain is described as a scoundrel. He's charming, intelligent, completely without scruples, a flirt anda man who plays the long game. Would you be willing to endure 10 years in prison if the payoff was $400 million dollars in gold? What he doesn't count on is Doctor Olivia Truesdale. She instantly captured his attention. Being a prison doctor was certainly not her life's aspiration anf yet here she is. When the devastatingly handsome is brought into her infirmary she's gobsmacked. He's irreverent, flirtatious and spouts endless innuendoes. Despite him being a felon she's drawn to him like a moth to a flame. She even goes so far as to lose her job to protect him. It takes her life being put in danger for Gabriel to temporarily abandon his plans and join Kian O'Harra's team in order to save her. What ensues is a daring rescues that's fraught with pitfalls, dangerous fast paced hard hitting action and feats of courage performed by the most unlikely person. All the while Gabriel and Olivia grow closer. He finally turns into the good man she knows he is.

A Truly Thrilling Adventure

No Angel is a wild trip down the river that will have to waiting for what is around the bend and believe me you will need to hang on for the ride of a lifetime.
It was refreshing that both Olivia and Gabriel were no you text book hero and heroine. He an ex-con who doesn’t want to be a better man and she a doctor who stretches the rules of professionalism. Together they were explosive in more ways than you can imagine while wanting what was best for the other. Their first time together was hotter than the Ecuadorian jungle.
The remainder for the crew were beyond interesting, leaving lots of questions and I loved how they became a cohesive unit. The bad guys, let’s just say they got what was coming to them.
All in all Helena did a terrific job in bringing both the locale and characters to life. It would be a shame if you missed this book.

From a prison uprising in Arizona, to the sweltering, cartel controlled jungle in Ecuador, this story is an exciting romance adventure story with non-stop action and danger and I loved every minute. The characters are interesting: Gabriel is the imprisoned master thief who focuses only on the day he will be free to spend his stashed away ill-gotten gains - until he sees Olivia, the prison's dedicated doctor, whose career was destroyed by false accusations. They have searing chemistry and an overpowering attraction that will bond them together forever when he rescues her from her kidnappers. The other characters in this story are fascinating as well, Kian, JD, Bradan, Danny, Colton, Cal, Emily, Stacey and Bethany. I have read Cal and Bethany's story (Deep Woods) but now I want the rest! I can totally imagine this story as a movie. It's a great read and I couldn't put it down.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was just ok. I was expecting so much more with all these five star reviews. Olivia was good girl who was so naive that she lost her job believing someone would have done the right thing. She was as exciting as watching paint dry.
Gabe who is supposed to be this cunning thief and decorated ex marine had the stupidest plans I have ever read. A matter of fact he almost died three times from his plans! None of them worked well. A matter a fact his teammates seem more smarter and better than him. It was all a bore truly even the sex scenes were too proper and I just couldn’t connect. The fact that the H had this elaborate plan to escape at the end of the mission with his gold and in the end had to give it up and the team leader only snuck ONE brick for the H was truly sad! Why the fuck were they all there for then?? Not one person snuck something!!!
All in all even though this had some action it was a bit underwhelming.

♥️ Gabriel & Olivia ♥️

A great interesting storyline packed full of nail-biting action adventure and drama. The storyline begins at a maximum security prison, where the two MMC meet. She’s the residing doctor who treats him for a knife wound, and he is one of the prisoners who is serving time for multiple robberies.

The attraction between them is instant, but neither of them can act upon it for obvious reasons. Then their whole world is turned upside down and the storyline shifts from a USA penitentiary to the lush jungles of Ecuador, S America, where Gabe is part of vigilante rescue team on a mission to save Olivia and two local doctors from a group of drug traffickers, who kidnapped them from a local village in the Ecuadorian mountain regions.

The storyline is fast paced, stacked full of action packed adventure, there’s loads of drama and twists to keep you entertained, with a great unexpected ending. Helena has great storytelling abilities. 👍🏼👍🏼
