Wicked in Wranglers

Rate this book
When Terry DeWitt heads to one of his favorite hole in the wall bars in Vegas, he’s riding high from a great season of bull riding. Which is a huge reason it’s such a shock when he runs into Matt Stephenson there, signing autographs on some kind of beefcake calendar. Matt is his one that got away, more like the one who ran away from all the things Terry wanted to do with him, and while Terry is on top of the world, it looks like Matt has hit rock bottom.

After a life-changing injury ended his bull riding career, Matt did his best to leave that whole world behind and make the best of what he had left. He’s been living in his truck and making money off his good looks, and when he sees Terry again, he decides one night will be enough to show him what he missed all those years ago when he was afraid to let Terry love him like they both needed.

One night is never enough, though, and when Terry takes Matt home with him, they have to decide how this new relationship will work, how to get Matt out from under a bad boss, and just how wicked they can be while still making a life together.

On the outskirts of Las Vegas, where the National Finals Rodeo congregates, Terry spots Matty at a bar. What has happened to him? There's a chest scar, a tattoo covers it, and he's got longer hair and a model's body.
Matty, 28, ex-rodeo bull rider, now models,

and years before, he left Terry because he was too scared to want what he needed, so he ran.
Terry, 35, rodeo bull rider is doing well,

settled at his ranch, and surprised to see the one man he wants.
Terry presses forward to get Matty's story, but Matty only wants Terry to take care of him, and give him what he wants.

It's light BDSM, because there is only talk of the heavier stuff, but their scenes are about control, patience, and needs being met. We see scorching sexiness and excitement.

A vicious man from the modeling business commits a life and death situation, and Terry is right there when needed.
It's a wonderful tale of getting what you want and need, and a bright future.
ENJOY !

Well, that was really a disappointment for me. I usually really like books by B. A. Tortuga. I just thought this one was kind of boring. I just couldn’t connect with either Matt or Terry, and I thought there was just too much sex. In fact I think 3/4 of the book was one sex scene after another. I can enjoy sex scenes especially when they include some dom/sub kink. These just didn’t turn me on. I was also bothered by Matt planning to leave for the most of the book. It felt like he just suddenly changed his mind.

There is just something about a cowboy romance by BA Tortuga that draws me in insisting that I sit right down and read it from the first page to the last they are just so good. Matty's the one that got away, I was just so in love with him there wasn't anything to do but let him go when he left. So when we ran into each other again, started talking I decided first thing to do was him to my room and started planning our future. First how to get him to come home with me and then how to get him to stay with me forever, because I can't imagine my life without him in it.

I enjoyed this one. Its kind of light with a kinky side to it.

The guys meet up again after being apart for years in the first chapter and once together again there was no conflict between the two. This was good to read as it let them get to know each other again. They were well matched. Their kinks aligned well together.

I liked that they were originally parted because of Matt’s hesitance about the relationship and this time together they were more ready to spend the time to make it work.

Terry was an enjoyable character, I liked that he made a decision early to keep Matt and then did everything in his power to ensure that Matt was happy and wanted to stay. He gave him a home base. I also liked his friends from circuit that turned up at the ranch. I hope to see them again in future books.

Matt was also a great character. He had his struggles and it was great to see him regain his confidence and settle within himself

There's something rather sexy about bull riders, in stories I mean, wouldn't ever go to see one, but in these tales, and I've read a few, they are hot and passionate and make for a delightful read. This was a mixture of hot, sweet, touching, and, for me, a teensy bit boring at times, but the intense and multiple sex scenes made up for it, overall I enjoyed it.

Wicked in Wranglers is another enjoyable cowboy kinky romance from BA Tortuga. Terry and Matty used to have something before Matt walked away, breaking Terry's heart. One night, Terry walks into a bar and sees a sight he never expected..... Matt signing pictures from a shoot that he was in, far different than the rodeo he used to live for. Matt fell in hard times after a life threatening injury and has to take any job he could. He may be living out of his truck but at least he's alive. This is their chance to reconnect, Matty thinking just for one night but Terry is grabbing this chance to have Matty in his life, permanently.
I always enjoy BA's cowboy stories that has fully believable characters and kink brings a bit of fun/heat to their romance. There's a strong connection between them from the moment they lock eyes across the bar and carries through the whole book. Matt is definitely in need of love, care and reassurance that he is enough, perfect for Terry. Terry's strong willed ways and dominant tendencies are what Matt needs and they match each other in the bedroom and out, Terry's ranch being the home life that suits Matt's personalities and needs. Somewhere you can envision the couple living together to very old age.
There's few secondary characters, mostly coming in towards the last third. Friends from the rodeo circuit turning up for Thanksgiving gives Matt a chance to reintegrate himself with those people again and then a bit of drama comes in the form of Matt's manager who doesn't like to hear the word no.
Another recommended read from this author. A good story that stayed strong throughout and gives a good HEA for the MC's.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

This book is amazing! Terry and Matt used to be together, until Matt got scared and ran away. But he has always been on Terry’s mind so when he sees Matt in a bar, he is determined not to let him get away again. Matt has struggled since a rodeo accident has left him unable to ride anymore. He goes with Terry and soon finds that nothing has changed between them. Terry convinces Matt to come home with him and Matt agrees. Once Terry gets him home, he vows never to let Matt go again. They will deal with some bumps along the way, one in the form of another rodeo cowboy who steps out of line and another from Matt’s manager who doesn’t take no for an answer when Matt quits and refuses a modeling job. This will put Matt’s life in danger when his manager hits him on his scar but he will pull through and it will give Terry and Matt the chance to have the love they always wanted. Together.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

I will preface this review with you will never look at ice cubes the same way again. I had forgotten that this book is the first book in the Beat the Heat series. This book is full of heat that is for sure. Terry doesn’t expect to find the one person who got away from him years later. With all of B.A.’s books our hero does what they do best, they take in their broken other half. In some books we don’t even know that half was missing but, in this book, Matt knows that he just needs to be cared for. Sometimes you just have to go with your heart. There is a vagueness to this story that was implied. We know that Matt was afraid when he left Terry the first time. Plus, when Terry finds out that Matt was injured and was never told about it our hearts break for the two men. We see the physical connection between the two but at the same time it’s the emotions that we see through this connection that doesn’t have to be put into words. I am curious as to what else will be coming with this series if this was the first book.

This was a sweet, lightly kinky, second chances story that I really enjoyed.
This first book in a new series from this author focuses on Terry and Matt who were previously in a relationship but now apart. Terry hasn’t seen Matt since he suddenly left him years before and when he unexpectedly sees him again he knows he wants a second chance.
It was great to watch these two adorable men reconnect, work through their past history and rediscover their love for each other. The two men are wonderful, believable characters who worked so well together plus we are also introduced to some other characters who hopefully will be featured in future stories. There was a dash of angst which made this story even more heartwarming and gave me so many feels before they made it to their HEA. I’m happy to recommend this book as a great read.
I was given an ARC of this book to review and this is my honest and voluntary opinion.

Cold Shower Needed

Hot, Hot, Hot! If you love cowboys in tight denim (who doesn’t?), with a Daddy/boy relationship, this is the book for you. After reading this, I needed a cold shower! Whew!

Terry is a championship bull rider, who heads to his favorite hole in the wall, dive bar, while in Vegas. There he sees his “one that got away”, Matty. Matt had a career ending injury and has been modeling to make ends not even come close to meeting. He’s in the bar, signing beefcake pictures, for horny guys.

Terry convinces Matty to come home with him, as the Thanksgiving holiday is approaching. He can see Matty is in a bad way, emotionally and financially, and all his Daddy instincts kick into high gear.

When they had been together the first time, Matty hadn’t been out, and he wasn’t ready to process all his feelings for Terry at the time. Terry wants his boy back, plain and simple, and he plans to get him back, and keep him this time.

Matt’s vulnerability had me just wanting to wrap him up in a warm blanket, and Terry’s tenderness towards him was swoon worthy. The sexy times between them are mouth mouthwatering, and the flame factor is high.

I’d never read this author before, but they captured the essence of bull riders perfectly. I’ve dated a bull rider, and the description of these men was spot on, right down to the cadence of their speech, dress, and their love of the sport. I can’t wait to read more from this writer.

This book has some heat! I love BA Tortuga’s cowboys a lot and anything by her is an automatic buy for me. This book proved to be no exception. It’s got more heat and spice than some of her other books but these two cowboys make some wicked magic. Terry just had one of his best years on the rodeo circuit when he runs into Matt. Matt was his special one years ago but he left Terry behind, afraid of what he wanted and what they shared together. Now Matt is at the end of his rope and Terry decides Matt isn’t getting away this time. Matt was in a near fatal bull riding accident and hasn’t been on the circuit in a couple of years. Now he is a model and living out of his truck. He decides to take a risk and go for what he wants this time. And what he wants is his happily ever after with Terry. This is a great second chance romance. I loved these two cowboys and honestly would love a nice little short side story set in their future on the ranch.

Hmm. Ok, so - brutal honesty? This feels very formulaic. It's NOT bad, it's perfectly fine, but I seriously doubt I will ever re-read it. A few lines made me cringe - the sex is generally hot, but I didn't really feel connected to either character. That might be because this very much leans towards erotica - the storyline is held together between sexy scenes, and while it was fun, it was a bit insubstantial.

It's also a little repetitive - which is fine, and I realised my expectations were maybe a bit too high. This is a good, fun, enjoyable second-chance, hurt/comfort kinky read - despite the characters angst and experiences, it's not a heavy read, and overall I did enjoy it. It's was nice to switch off a bit and just take comfort from how the characters grew together, and got their HEA.

I just can't seem to get enough of this author's cowboys. I loved this one about a second chance romance between two bull riders at opposite ends of their careers.

Terry is at the height of his career, and very successful on the rodeo circuit. Matt is a former bull rider, driven out of the profession by an injury that nearly cost him his life. Without much to fall back on, Matt takes up underwear modeling. He’s not very happy about it, constantly denigrating himself and his current status in life...but it pays the bills. Matt and Terry had previously dated awhile back. Despite being in love, Matt walked away because he hadn’t made peace with his sexuality. He also wasn’t comfortable being in love with a man who wanted things “hard and heavy”. Matt and Terry ran into one another again in a Los Vegas bar where Matt was signing autographs. Matt runs, but quickly once in Terry’s presence changes his mind. He agrees to a one-time hookup. From there, it’s not too hard for Terry to convince Matt to come home with him. Matt was living out of his car so not much convincing was needed. Their relationship picks up again, and Matt’s attitude definitely changes.

The story focuses on the Dom/sub, BDSM elements of Terry and Matt’s relationship. This is "cowboy loving" BA Tortuga so you get her signature style of showing us the sexy rodeo guys. She definitely knows cowboys, bull riders, and rodeo. That "cowboy informality" is easy reading as well as warm and inviting, but more so, it is 100% believable. The main story follows Matt and how he learns to open up and become more confident while learning to accept and love himself for who he is. Terry is effusive in his love, support, and dedication to Matt, which bolsters his journey.

The narrative makes clear that Matt has some scars and not just the physical ones. However, I never really understood the extent of his emotional scars. The story doesn’t ever really explore the "how’s and why’s" of Matt’s personal struggles and recovery from his bull-riding injury...the loss of his career...or how it led to his current situation, where he is living out of his car and being tied to a sleazy agent willing to essentially pimp him out for a quick dollar.

Overall, this book 110% lives up to its advertisement as being a "hot summer read". It's filled with hot, sexy, and heavy content with an enjoyable storyline. It's not a real long story but neither can it be called short...if you want a book you don’t have to think too much about...just enjoy and fall in love with the two sweet, hot guys and of course the dogs, chickens and horses... then Wicked in Wranglers will fill that bill for you just finer than frog hair:)

This book has plenty of heat-- so much so, in fact, that it’s pretty much the plot for a good ⅔ of the novel, and while I thought that worked for who Matt and Terry were and how they fit together, readers expecting them to actually talk about their feelings between scenes are going to want to adjust their expectations a bit. That said, the author puts a lot of feeling, and meaning, into the physical interactions between Matt and Terry. Alternating between a focus on Matt and Terry’s perspectives, as the author does, is, I think, really smart, as not all (or even most) of the characters’ emotions are explicitly vocalized, and it’s good to see how they’re feeling and what each is getting, both from a particular scene and from the relationship as a whole. There is, as I said, plenty of steam, but some sweetness as well. Readers learn that it’s a second-chance romance, and that Matt wasn’t ready for their D/s dynamic the first time around, but there aren’t really a lot of specific details, more a general feeling of regret, and redemption, in their connection this time. Terry is a caretaker by nature, and he’s hyper focused on giving Matt what he needs, whether that’s a home or a Dom who can take over and allow Matt the freedom to let go, and Matt is equally determined to give back to Terry. They fit well together, and it’s nice to see them happy at the end, after an unexpectedly harrowing final few chapters.

Cowboys in love. What else do you need besides that?

The book is a light read, exploring the rediscovered relationship between Terry and Matt. Terry is in his 30s and is in the rodeo circuit, getting close to retirement. Matt was in the circuit, but years ago, dropped off the radar after he ran away from Terry and broke off contact.

The two men run into each other while Matt is signing some questionable photographs in a gay bar in Vegas, and Terry is not going to let him run away again. The two rekindle their relationship, Matt thinking it’s just a quick fling, Terry set on it being permanent.

The book contains a strong kink theme, with Terry being a Dom, and Matt being a sub. With Matt finally accepting his nature, he explores kink with Terry and the relationship blooms. There’s a hurdle or two in the road for them, but they definitely get their HEA.

The language, the writing… it’s very “in theme” with cowboys. I laughed at some of the phrasing the author used, since I’ve heard them before, having grown up in Texas. It’s all very authentic, though it’s a bit over the top at the beginning and relaxes as the book progresses. Regardless, it’s well written, fun, and enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this Cowboy romp from hook up to love ever after. It made my heart sing, my brow sweat and my eyes water!!!

The two characters were great with the Daddy vibe and the D/s dynamic they fell into quite quickly. I loved that the younger of the two really needed looking after due to bad times and that the older Cowboy wanted to be that person for him. They made a great team on the ranch and in bed. They had a nice relaxed chemistry that bubbled and boiled at the right time.

They were supported by a secondary cast of characters that were few and far between but who brought depth and layers to the story.

The story itself moved swiftly, no stalling or tripping; it pulled the reader through the pages painting a picture of life on the ranch, of day to day cowboys outside riding bulls and living the high life.

I really enjoyed this book and don't see any reason why you wouldn't as well; give it a read on your kindle today. xx

Holy hell! Hot, kinky cowboys having a second shot at love?
Sign me up !
I am a huge fan of Author Tortuga's writing and she has once again proved, that she's the queen of cowboy romances.

The chemistry between the MC's is off the charts, right from the get go. As the two shield the hurt of the past whilst focussing the needs of the present and the comfort of the bond they share, the way the duo readapt to their new differences and build upon the remnants of the bond they have always shared is beautiful to read.

Author Tortuga always does hurt comfort right but I was truly blown away by the way she has penned down the trust the Mcs share and highlighted the power of need, security and comfort when it comes to submission. The intimate scenes were truly lovely-a perfect balance of tender and so so hawt!!

If you are looking for a low angst, second chance romance with a little kink, get to this ASAP!

Wicked in Wranglers is a super hot, fun and entertaining story with great characters and an intriguing storyline. I love Terry and Matt and they are exactly what the other needs. I like how their relationship evolves but it would have been nice to have more background information about both of them as well as their shared past. They never really deal with Matt's running away from Terry but they are both ready to start over together. Terry has a few decisions to make about his future and Matt also has to decide if he is ready to stay with him. Even as they deal with an issue from Matt's past their strong connection and smoking hot chemistry is never in question. The ending is good, there are some great secondary characters that I hope we will see again and I look forward to reading the next book in this multi-author series.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a book by this author I didn’t love.

There’s something about BA Tortuga’s writing style that really works for me - I always really enjoy their books and can’t wait for the next one. This story was really about how sometimes people fall in love, but it just isn’t the right time for them. Occasionally, those people get a second chance and the timing is perfect. This was one of those stories. Matt’s life is hard when Terry finds him again; his confidence is knocked and he takes a while to realise that Terry has no intention of letting him go. Watching Matt build himself up with Terry’s patient care and love was really wonderful. Matt was never weak or incapable. He simply needed time to mend some hurts and Terry gave him that without it being a dependent or unhealthy relationship. Sweet, low angst loveliness!

Love me some Kinky Cowboys! This was a hot little number of a quick read. We have Terry our older, bigger Cowboy and we have younger Cowboy Matt who had skipped out on Terry and broke his heart. They run into each other years later in a bar and sparks fly! Terry wants Matt and he also wants to take care of him. It is told from both POV and I quite liked Terry, He was a big kinky teddy bear!! I liked the kind of original dynamic these two had. it is hard describe in words it was just kind of special and unique. These two have great chemistry and there are a Lot of Steamy times! Oh and Two Adorable dogs too! I received an ARC of this book and I recommend for those who like a second chance romance with hot cowboys, low angst and high steam!

Wicked and wild, with some sweet thrown in.

This author is one of my hands down faves and no one does cowboys as well as she does. This story is seriously good. Low angst, hurt/comfort, lite/med BDSM, Dom/sub, second chance love story complete with rodeo stars, dogs and chickens. Since I’m a BDSM lite kinda girl, this story pushed my comfort level a little bit but it is so worth it. Seeing Terry and Matt rekindle their love was so sweet. Terry has to work to build Matt’s self-confidence while he also is working to make him want to stay. Matt is such a sweetheart with a cowboy’s attitude and it’s so heartwarming to see him really come into himself with Terry’s help. If you love cowboys, some kinky fun and ranch life, grab this book up!

This is a fun and sexy, low-angst novella that has the author's typical southwestern US feel. In this book, Terry DeWitt and Matt Stephenson unexpectedly bump into each other in a Vegas bar after being apart for several years. Originally, they were well-matched lovers and Terry wanted more, but Matt wasn't out of the closet at the time, became scared, and left Terry. Now, they are drawn to each other again, Terry has recovered from bull riding injuries, and he's out. Things start off slow, but Terry is determined to ask for what he wants this time and Matt is very interested and responsive. This story is heavy on the passionate encounters with several other storylines and some good friends. There is a low-protocol, kinky D/s relationship and a forever type of love.

Not my fav B.A. Tortuga book.

Ok Ill start with what I liked.
I liked the fact Terry knew Matt so well, we could tell he cared, small things like remembering the foods he liked. Caring about where he was and how he was doing. That Matt owned up to running away before, but was learning to be brave. That he obviously had Matt in mind when organising the ranch and that they opened their home up for Jax, and Harry.

What I didnt like, Matt trying to be secretive, why did he keep that manager? Terry using sex to have a hold over Matt.
Honestly the repetitive sex. Which I felt made up most of the book

BA Tortuga has always been my go-to for my cowboy fix. I liked the characters Matty and Terry were perfect for each other. Also, Matty was adorable. Terry and Matty are quintessential BA cowboys; they are rough around the edges. Also, I really like second chance stories and this one definitely fits the bill. There was a slight D/s element. I would say that it was more about rekindling their sex life ( it was like 50% sex) than anything else. So if you are more plot-oriented this book is probably not for you. It would have been nice maybe to have flashbacks or prologue or something to know more about them.

Cowboys and heat

Terry and Matt were together years ago and one night Terry sees Matt in a bar and decides to try to win Matt back, since he was the one who ran away.
I just loved how Terry sees Matty and his need for reassurance, that he is good enough and that Terry still wants him for real. Matty’s confidence thrives with Terry's praise and they are a perfect fit in the sheets too. Or over the sheets or anywhere really, those two are kinky and so hot together.
I would have loved more of their background, so I’d give this 4½ stars if I could, but I’ll round it up to 5, because the story flowed so well and I’ll definitely want to read the next one.

I have high hopes for the Beat the Heat Series from BA Tortuga! I love me a good cowboy book and Wicked in Wranglers is an easy, sweet read. I liked both Matt and Terry! They had a history together and all it takes to fan the old flames is a look. The heat is on... there's a lot of sex in this book, which I love, but my only gripe is how Matt seems to be intent to leave, thinking he's not lovable or worthy of being with Terry and on his ranch, which he loves... both of them! In the end there is a HEA but a little bit of a rocky road to get there. I already have the next Beat the Heat book! Enjoy!

I really enjoyed Matty and Terry, especially Matty. This is definitely a steamy read and it is pretty low angst between the main characters. The praise kink is absolutely divine. I love how Terry uses it to help Matty feel worthy again even if he can’t ride anymore. The pacing is really nice and fast paced. It is definitely not a slow burn because they are hitting the sheets pretty quickly and let me tell you it is fire. I am definitely going to be reading the next book in the series (which I hope is Jax!).

Not what I expected.
I liked the book, but the blurb left out some important information (there's a lot of BDSM) that threw me a bit.
I enjoyd getting to know both Terry and Matt. Their story sweet and steamy.
I gave the book three stars despite it beeing well written and good because the blurb was rather misleading when it came to the type of book this is (I like reading BDSM-themed books, but I need to be in the right mindset for it) and there was no clear/verbalised consent (Terry just knew, despite over a year? apart).
