We as a family love history. And have read all of the other books in this series and they are wonderful, so it was with much anticipation we opened 'The History of China'.
The Kindle Unlimited and audiobook edition have been added to our homeschool lessons. I also received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
It is in an easily understood format and very comprehensive for our needs. As my friend says it is in snackable chunks, you can take a part of any chapter and have much information for an interesting discussion.
Discovering that Genghis Khan, the Great Khan, (the most famous and best warrior) was really named Temujin was a highlight.
I think this book will be enjoyed by history enthusiasts of all ages.
I think that every kid should read Chinese history in school just as most kids learn about European History, "American History 101" or "The History of Texas" if you live in San Antonio. WTF??? We spend hours and hours as seen on the television news, each day, debating about the frivolity of what we can or can't wear and never discuss the entire "alien" civilization in our own back yard.?
We spend legislative effort including or excluding language from our schools, and we don't teach enough about the country that has the largest workforce, army, agricultural base, literacy rate (above us), and who's economy is on overdrive as the number one manufacturer of goods in the world.
We never speak about the "what makes up the big gorilla in the room"...about how China was up and running as a civilization and a business more than 4,000 years before Marco Polo learned Chinese on his journey to "say hello" to Kublai Khan...That was a terrifically long walk for Mr. Polo. I guess if one was sufficiently motivated motivated, a long walk would be a good time to learn Chinese and the "business" of Mr. Kahn. That's why Mr. Kahn didn't kill Mr. Polo when they first laid eyes on each other.
They shared a common language... I didn't know that before I read this book!
