Is it the luck of the Irish, or a curse that Molly has found another body?
It’s Christmas time in Dooley, Ireland! Molly McGuire has settled into Rose Cottage, and the Book Nook is buzzing with holiday shoppers. Life is good until Henry Pierce shows up one night ill, and Molly in embroiled in another mystery. Things become even more complicated when there’s a new Detective Inspector on the case–nicknamed “DI Eejit” and is looking at Molly as the culprit. Then Molly’s not-quite-ex-husband shows up. Will Molly stay in Ireland, or move back to the United States?
This is a tough one to even attempt to grade. The mystery was quite interesting, with many possible villains. The book also has a lot of interesting secondary characters. However, it's as if this is a very rough draft. There are so many errors it's almost unbelievable. The author skips between first person POV and third person POV within the same paragraph repeatedly, sometimes in the same sentence. This doesn't just happen once, but throughout the book. There are also numerous other grammatical errors. I almost put the book down after a few pages, but then I got interested in the story and kept going. But at this point I think I'll put the series down. I'm not sure I can handle that many errors in the immediate future.
Quirky plots and characters. Terrible writing. Mistakes seemingly on every single page. I got through two but that's it for me. Definitely not worth paying for.
Really needed a proofreader... me to I then we...but over all it was enjoyable.im holding off reading another...I'm thinking the fairies might be taking over..
I read the first book in the series a while ago. Usually, I have trouble recalling the characters, but the author did a great job of reviving them. I like the fact that the characters, especially the suspects, were multidimensional, having good qualities, but also flaws. I couldn't understand why Molly was so accepting of her soon to be ex-husband showing up, but the resolution of that conundrum was also solved brilliantly. I am looking forward to the next in the series.
I liked this second book in the series too. I liked the Christmas setting. I like the characters very much. The plot was clever enough to keep me guessing. I still have a problem with the proofreader for this book. It kept changing from first person point of view (I) to third person (Molly), sometimes all in one paragraph. I didn’t notice this particular problem in the first book. It annoyed me, probably because I was an English teacher.
I really liked this story. I like Molly, the main character, and the mystery kept me guessing. There were also some very funny moments. I especially enjoyed that it was set at Christmas time. The problem I have with this book and the first one in the series is the editing. The book switches back and forth from first person to third person in the middle of a sentence. There were also some mistakes and awkward phrases. I would like to keep reading the series, but sadly the editing is just too much of a distraction.
Before I forget, be sure to read Book 1 first. H you'll want to know Molly's family and friends, as well as her new acquaintances in the village and the guards. Its also a really good mystery!
When the bookstore is open late for the holidays, just as Molly and her sister-in-law are reading the shop for closing, a man who doesn't look well, at all, walks in and asks for a glass of water. Well, they are the only shop in town still open. Molly takes in his appearance and quickly brings him the drink. Hugh, looking no better, thanks them and, though they've offered to call an ambulance or help in any way, Hugh just wants to go home and take his medicine. He makes it to his car but doesn't start it. Since there is no taxi service in town, with the shop closed for the night, the ladies head for their cars and find Hugh still sitting in his car. Molly realizes that they are his only way of getting home. She gets the sick man to her car, and with her sis-in-law coming along to help, they give him a hand. You'll want to follow the rapidly increasing relationship that develops as Molly continues to try and help Hugh. You won't be sorry you did, because the writers words are so much better than mine!
I was drawn to the fact that this takes place in Ireland at Christmas time, but I was disappointed in how the author didn't play up the Christmas magic—decorated windows, festive foods, etc. There was mention, but it wasn't in detail. Having never been to Ireland, I was looking forward to the description. The story is the second in a series, but you don't need to read the first to continue the stories. I didn't fall in love with any of the characters or care what happened to them. The story was fine. I could put it down for days at a time, so I'm not a huge page-turner. I wouldn't read the series, but I might try another from this author.
This was a really good book, I just kept reading till I knew the answers. Molly was working in her bookstore and she was doing the closing routine when someone walked into her store because the indoor was not locked. This was the start for her to a lot of questions that she really did not want to get involved in because of what happened the last time. If you want to find out the questions and answers to a really great book go get it, and happy reading.
The author writes in such a way as to help the reader get to know the characters in such a way that they become friends you have yet to meet in a village you wish you lived in. This is an excellent continuation of her first book in the series of the Molly McGuire Mysteries. A must read !
This story had me hooked. Loved all the characters and their lives. This mystery unravels people past and present lives they have kept hidden but if Molly is on the case all will come to light. So refreshing.
The author did a great job writing the story. There was an error however in the copy I received on Kindle. Chapter 26 was erroneously put between 18 and 19, and interfered a bit with the flow of the book for me.
I enjoy the Cindy Kline series featuring Molly McGuire character. She is spunkey, willing to put herself out there and is so much fun. All the characters are well defined . The story line is well developed and I just plain enjoy these books.
Another great story with Molly the Nancy Drew of Ireland. Great twisted plot. However there is one editing mistake in the manuscript— chapter 26 somehow got sandwiched between chapters 18 & 19. It was confusing until I figured it out. Needs to be corrected.
These are like potato chips! Just gobble them up. Smile story, a bit predictable but a charming location and likable characters, totally want to holiday in Ireland.
Editing continues to be my biggest difficulty reading. The most jarring is the switch from first to third person mid sentence. Clean it up and it’s a solid fun read!
I enjoyed this story. I liked the setting of Ireland, I did not guess the culprit, or at least I was not sure. The characters were interesting and well developed. The story had a good pace and rollout. I think this is a series that I will be reading more of.
Book 2, just as great as the 1 book of this series. Absolutely love the quirky Molly McGuire and all that happens to her and around her. Looking forward to the next book.
My second book in this series. Both books are great filled with awesome characters. Great storyline, lots of twists written in funny and mysterious way. I did not want to put it down. Molly is a great lead character.
My second reading of Cindy Kline's 'A Molly McGuire Mystery.' I was not disappointed. Only one thing to note, a couple places that should have had a proof reader's eye before publishing. But it didn't stop me from enjoying the book.
I would Read more of your books. Hard to put down. Great characters . I love Molly and can't wait to read about when she and her detective decide to stop circling and actually get together
Where to start? Belly written, grammar mistakes, narrator mistakes.... I bought the first 5 books by mistake (thank you Amazon) and I don't think I will be able to pursue this quest.... I don't recommend these books at all!
Even though newly edited, there are still a few editing problems. Those errors were not too distracting, however, and Ms Kline’sgreat characters and storyline shined through.
Molly sounds too casual about things she should be extra careful for. I love the setting of this series but somewhere I don’t have much affinity with the MC, Molly. This one was again a good book but Molly as always was careless and impossible.
Or cause death. You have your core cast of characters but this time, old lovers, new lovers, rags to riches A mistress and its Christmas time. Fun book.
I loved the first book in this series, but this one definitely didn't compare. The editing was poor with several obvious mistakes and frequent changing between 1st and 3rd person.
