A lovely, hopeful story about how life is still good for the girl narrating this story. Life is still good, even after her parents's divorce.
How lovely that this book is not about finding out that the parental unit is being sundered.
And it's not about how the narrating child takes the news of the divorce.
This book helps readers to appreciate that life really does go on. For instance, on Page 24:
"Dad coaches soccer. Mom watches me play."
I'm not convinced that divorced parents would really come to the same soccer practice. But this book isn't to document reality but to reassure children whose world -- as they've known it -- is ending.
FIVE STARS. This book doesn't use POETIC license but HOPE licence.
A good book to help kids understand different families without being too overbearing in respect to what divorce means. Children already know that things are different; the only thing that matters is both parents are doing their part to ensure their children are happy, healthy, and loved.
This would be helpful to explain divorced families and show the class there is more than one type of family. In the book, the little girls explains that she spends time with both parents, does fun things with both parents, and they occasionally all get together. At the end it states that they love her, just like always.
