I ID'd 5 frogs & toads in my yard & ditches by their calls, listening to enclosed CD.
Incidentally, the Supreme Court is now debating the endangered Dusky Gopher Frog & the whole Endangered Species Act is vulnerable. Frog used to live in my Louisiana parish.
Incidentally, I knew Harold Dundee, who wrote book on LA frogs & would entertain party guests with his reportoire of frog calls.

Fantastic photos and useful information. I love that it came with the audio files on a CD so I can easily hear good call examples.

This was a great informational book that really gave me a new perspective on frogs. Through this books, I was able to learn about a great variety of species, from their range, biology, and calls. As an animal enthusiast, I always like to have comprehensive books listing a variety of species, as it helps me get a greater understanding of our planet's biodiversity. As for the content itself, you can expect to find detailed range maps, neat and organized information, descriptions of each frog's calls, and comprehensive information on their taxonomy. The only problem with this book is that it can get very repetitive, listing similar information over and over again. To be fair, it was probably meant to be read cover to cover like you would a chapter book, but rather an encyclopedia you pick up, search for whatever you're looking for, and put it down. This is in no way bad, though it would have been nice if the author found a way to spice things up occasionally. Overall, this is a great book for frog enthusiasts.

This is a fantastic book. It is a complete guide to ALL the frogs and toads of NA. It gives basic id and behavior notes, range maps, and beautiful color photographs. My only beef is that the book is not sized to take into the field. An added bonus is a CD thast comes with the book with all the anuran calls for NA! Cheaply priced too.

If you want to learn about frogs and toads that live in your area this book is a great help! Its packed with high quality photos of each species, a map where they are found, cd with frog and toad calls to listen to, and detailed information. The reason for a 4 rating is that they lack photos of the tadpoles and diet of some species, but other than that great book!

Lang Elliott is the man where North American amphibians are concerned. This is the most comprehensive publication of its kind, and it contains two CDs of calls. A must have for anyone so inclined.
