Motor #2

Super Stock Rookie

Rate this book
After a couple of seasons of small-town racing, things are shifting into high gear for a young dirt-track driver with the skills to make it big. Trace Bonham has landed a corporate sponsor and a custom-built dream ride. But this means Trace can no longer pilot his dad’s Street Stock Chevy, and must let a new kid get behind the wheel. It also means having to turn his back on his hometown speedway, which his team leaders think is a hayseed operation not worth their time, even though it’s run by a girl who matters to Trace in a big way. Filled with authentic race-car action and detail, Will Weaver’s fast-paced novel is the story of a boy struggling with the speed and demands of his own success.

I grew up in the Midwest, and had no idea I'd become a writer one day. However I gradually felt a need to tell my own stories. To explain, in writing, how I saw the world.

Today I'm a full time writer with 13 novels, many short stories, and two movie adaptations. I enjoy visiting schools and libraries, and sharing what I've learned about writing.

My newest novel POWER & LIGHT (Sept 2023) is now out. The first of a two book adult saga, it follows the arc of a Norwegian emigrant family to the Midwest–their hardships and ultimate triumph.

I choosed this book because i could relate to it and me and my uncle race sprint cars sometimes in Minisota but mostly in Wisconsin. The main charactor trace wasnt happy when he found out he cant drive his street stock anymore he is only allowed to race team blus car. The problem was when he first raced team blus car at headwaters speedway he finished 2nd in the feature and gerry harkaness demanded a engine check on traces car to make sure its an legal engine but when they found out it was a legal engine they told trace to never come back because of the team blu crew. The problem was resolved at the next track where trace got a girlfriend and where he won the feature event and forgot all about headwaters and said lets go racing. My opinion about the book is that i can read it over and over again and the book sounded like a really good movie like the first book and at the end was great i loved this book.

Trace Bonham is a young man in this book with a special gift for racing. He has recently been selected as one of many contenders for the new spot in Team Blu. As if racing for Trace didn't get any better than this. As a matter of fact it got worse. Trace ended up being selected as the new member but that means he has to leave his private life past him. It gets better from here,if he signed the papers to confirm his spot,he would have to leave Melody Walters a girl who means more to him in a different way. Trace also has to be accepted in by his parents. His dad Don Bonham being a fan of racing himself says yes. His mom has to come to an agreement at a restaurant because Trace's parents are divorced. I liked this book because Will Weaver informs young wannabe NASCAR or Super Stock drivers that they should think way more than twice before making that decision a reality. He sure changed my mind after a character in the book stated that he couldn't skateboard anymore. Thanks for reading.

This book is pretty good. I like how the character is my age. I like how it is about racing. I think it is kind of weird how they just go to the thing that Team Blu holds the racing test. I also don't think that Trace was one of the top three racers but they thought so. I think it's cool though that they came to visit him at his home track. I was suprised like Trace about how Team Blu picked him. I think the people from Team Blu seemed pretty nice. But the other racers really weren't. Also I think it is cool how Trace is basically a pro at 14.

Super Stock Rookie
By Will Weaver

Like many other Will Weaver books that I’ve read, this book is definitely a favorite of mine. A sequel to Saturday Night Dirt, Super Stock Rookie uses many of the same characters, and maintains that close-knit dirt track racing experience that many racing fans crave, while also giving a peak of what the life of a big time race team is like. Overall, the general layout is very easy to read, and making that transition from Saturday Night Dirt to Super Stock Rookie is very easy. There are no big gaps, nothing that you are left wondering about. Weaver creates a very smooth transition from one book to the next. I honestly feel that Super Stock Rookie is definitely a book aimed for that teenage racing fan, that eat, sleeps, and breathes racing, yet it contains enough action to entertain almost any reader.

There are not many books I’ve read more than once, maybe twice. All three books in Will Weaver’s Motor series are exceptions. I’ve read his initial Motor novel at least four times all the way through, and this one at least three times all the way through. Yet every time I read or reread one of these books all the way through, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall, Weaver did an exceptional job on this book; everything fits perfect, the characters for the most part are easy to distinguish and follow, and the book is packed with action and little details you may have missed the first time through. Weaver really focuses on Trace’s social life in this book, while still providing excellent racing detail. Because Weaver has or still does race a dirt modified in real life, It helps create a much more detailed and realistic version of the racing scenes. In general, I would be lying if I didn’t include Superstock Rookie as one of my favorite books.

I thought this book was really cute. I grew up at dirt tracks in the Midwest and the author - he loves adjectives, lol - hit the culture on the head. I also liked the attention paid to detail - from track texture to mechanical aspects. The main plot was rather inconceivable and the ending left something to be desired but I still thought it was an enjoyable read.

It was a super good book based on driving a "super stock" and making a team for it.

SUPER STOCK ROOKIE is another fast-paced racing story by Will Weaver. This is the second in his MOTOR NOVEL series and is sure to grab the attention of reluctant teen readers - even if they aren't particularly racing fans.

Trace Bonham has been racing Street Stock for years on small town tracks throughout the northern Midwest. Now, it's possible that he might get a chance to race a new, top-of-the-line Super Stock car. All he has to do is attend a tryout sponsored by a group called Team Blu and hope for the best.

Joining Trace are some of his friends from his hometown track at Headwaters Speedway. Mel runs the track with her dad. Patrick sings the national anthem before races, does grunt work around the track, and wishes he could be a driver someday. There are also other racing teams that have watched Trace grow into the racer he is today. All of them wish him the best at the tryout, but if he makes it, will his success change these longtime relationships?

Team Blu offers Trace the best of everything - a great new car, topnotch mechanics and pit crew, and a super trailer complete with his own quality sleeping quarters. He just has to drive fast, look great, and promote their product. Seems pretty simple, but ...

I'm not a racing fan at all, but I found myself caught up in the action from the very first page. Weaver's first MOTOR NOVEL, titled SATURDAY NIGHT DIRT, was also a page-turner, so I'm definitely looking forward to whatever follows next.

This motor novel was a very interesting non-fiction book! When I started the book I couldn't put it down because at the end of every chapter there was a clif hanger so I had to keep reading on. This book was so good I finished it in 1 day! My favorite part of this book was when Trace one his first super stock race and started getting into it and was being unstopable. When his crew team got him banned from his home track that part was sad because he couldn't see the girl he liked anymore besides coming back rarely or like once a month. I felt bad for Trace when his old friend Garry demanded a engine check that means the engine crew had to take apart the whole thing and check it for anything illegal. When they were done they ended up finding nothing so Trace got the money Garry bet if anything was illegal, that part I felt happy but then Johnny came over and told him he wasn't allowed back at the track ever with his crew because of how bad his crew acted towards the staff and people there. When I finished the book I wanted to reread it over and over again. I think everyone should read it if they are interested in car racing because they would love this motor novel!

I liked this book because I look racing. This book is a about a teen ager that is in high school, but he takes all of his classes on line so that he can travel across the United states to race a few times a week. Trace Bonham started off racing his dads chevey street stock. But one day trace and his dad found out about a team that is doing try outs for a new driver. Trace and his dad go to the try outs and he makes, Trace becomes the new driver for team blu racing. Trace now has a couple of new superstocks and a big car hauler. Trace won his first race and he became unstopable. Trace almost won every race he went to. When Trace was racing in his home town him and his team got banned from it, so now Trace won't be able to see the girl he realy likes. Trace's team said "there is better tracks to race at and more girls in your future." I would recommend this book to people who like cars, stuff with motors, or racing.

I really like this it is interesting about his race life. The main character is Tracey. What made me read this kind of book is that my uncle he races late model and he won the national points and got a lot of money. The part I like in the book is he gets takes a test drives in a new car and he really like and explains it and that is what I like. The part I didn’t like is he doesn’t like a person and that person takes good things from him that can get him better.

Things that happen in the story is he gets sponsored because the sponsored people saw his race and he is really good and then he got sponsored and that sponsor gets a lot of race and a farther way in his race life. His car I very fast and he can win against hard people that mean he is really good for a young driver.

Success sometimes brings its own challenges, as Trace Bonham finds out when he wins the super stock tryouts at Rivers Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., picks up a corporate sponsor and becomes a well-paid super stock driver. Throughout the reading Super Stock Rookie by Will Weaver I found that the book was hard to put down sometimes because it was too good. This book is about the main character, Trace Bonham, who went from racing his street stock to racing a super stock for a professional racing team. He faced challenges with friends and in his racing career throughout the novel. I really like this book because it’s something I can relate to and am interested in. I would recommend this book because it has good detail and good characters.

Even if you're not a race fan and may not understand all the lingo, you'll be drawn into Trace Bonham's racing world. Author Will Weaver is a racer himself and his knowledge shows as he masterfully portrays the culture while also enriching it with an emotional story. Trace gains the opportunity of a lifetime when he is selected by a corporate sponsor to race their Super Stock. However there's a dark sense of Trace having sold his soul as conflicts arise. Corporate representatives treat Trace as a product, while his professional racing crew clashes with the homegrown racers, many of whom are Trace's friends. Trace feels conflicted himself, even lonely, but at book's end he determines to press on. I am actually interested in reading the next installment to see how he handles the pressure.

Trace Bonham has been selected to try out to drive Team blu's brand new superstock, When he is selected he should be on top of the world. So why does it all seem a little strange and not quite 'right'. All of a sudden there is somebody else driving his street stock and he is having trouble finding anyone to talk to. There is also the question of how this car can possibly be so fast. I enjoyed this book however at the end of the story I was left with more questions than answers, in that regard I found the book a little unsatisfying. I am, however, eagerly awaiting the next one.

This book is about a guy who makes it on the racing team, team Blue. The girl he likes finds out and she starts to like him but gets mad that he is leaving. At first he really doesn't like his team. At the end he starts to like them. Then they start winning a bunch of races. I gave it 4 stars because its a good book but I dont like some charecters.

This book was awesome -- the racing details were right on the money (and exciting to read)! Weaver introduces more sources of tension into the plot that will probably set up the next book(s) without leaving the reader feeling like there are too many loose ends in this one.

One main event is when Trace is signed with a big racing company that will pay him lots of money. Another main event is when his engine has to be checked by race officials. I would give this book 3 stars. I give it 3 stars because the characters were pretty good and so was the plot.
