His body was no longer his own, having been shoved into a dying priest in the heart of a totally different world of magic and death. The priest had been protecting a caravan—a duty Monty now inherited—and he was faced with bandits and worse, all while keeping up the facade of his stolen identity. Luckily, the priest had been capable of miraculous [Light] magic, and now so was Monty. He could heal... and he could kill.
And he would, without hesitation.
He'd rather not die again.
About the Series: Experience a [System] world with levels, classes, loot, skills, and magic. Follow Monty as he explores the world of Atla, doing his best to keep his people alive through the countless challenges ahead.
I managed to make myself finish this book, but only barely. The underlying story is one that I would actually want to read, but the writing itself is so bad that I just can’t continue to the next book.
Most of the book reads like someone wrote this in another language and then put it through google translate. Forget spelling and grammar errors, many sentences were just incomprehensible.
Multiple times I found myself wondering if this book is the result of having an AI write a book with just the keywords litrpg, nomad, healer and isekai.
The one thing that makes this book stand out from the crowd is the fact that the MC is an “old man” who reincarnates into a slightly younger “old man.” This actually becomes annoying with how much time the MC spends complaining about the aches and pains of being old.
This author is an excellent storyteller. But this reinforces my idea that many of the people who are best at creating stories are the worst at editing. This book desperately needs an editor. One character apparently changes gender on two occasions. The caravan in which most of the book is set is variously named both Murmur and Mumur. The author frequently says the opposite of what is intended due to grammar and vocabulary problems. And nearly every page has a malapropism or glaring typo.
Enjoyable isekai with a twist. Also nice to see a story about an old man just getting to be an old man. The old man in me might wish for some extra longevity from this experience. We’ll have to see where the story goes.
As the title says this is a review for Kindle Unlimited and as such is a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis.
This has zero world building, to the point that the individual actions have no point of reference. The writing is rough. The jumping between situations makes everything feel disconnected. This was a random series of interactions in an unknown world from a group of unknown people. Halfway through a book without answers to any of these questions is not a book I want to finish.
I don’t know if this book is AI generated, poorly translated or the author is just really bad with words, but the prose is awful.
First page,“It would have breached the protection of his skull”. Third page, “His ears had gone out”. He didn’t lose his hearing, his ears had gone out.
Between the awful prose and non-sequiturss tacked onto the end of sentences, this is should be a hard pass for everyone.
3.5 Some Third Direction That No Human Mind Should've Been Able To Comprehend Stars
Nomad Healer is the first book in this LitRPG Healer Adventure by N. J. Buller.
What is even happening? I'm confused by the true concerns to focus on, outside of the everyday nonsense. The Devils appear immediately evil? But were they Elven made? Are they not all an automatic enemy of every human? Can the Murmur Caravan trust their Elven allies? Or are they hiding something? This Joseph perhaps?
I much enjoyed the journey, and Monty discovering the abilities of his new Cleric class. It's been entertaining to witness him experimenting and growing within his spells and capabilities. I'm wondering if he will transform into another OP old man much like in Axiom, with how much prestige merely being an Otherworlder governs?
We've barely grasped any of the world structure within this literary creation, as of yet. We at least know there are a few sentient races: humans, elves, dwarves, goblins, and devils. At this point we've had very limited encounters with only elves and devils. Which still leave much to be parsed about their general countenance.. Besides the set boundary of not being able to trust the Crown Prince of the Devils..
I wonder if it's possible for Monty to learn a similar spell to what Duarno used to explode people near the end of the book?
i am going to be honest. this will be a series i do not continue. i generally like stories where people are sucked over to a different world where there is magic and this started out alot different than others of the same general premis but it just never wowed me like others i enjoy. it was well written and it was a good idea i think i just do not think i will continue with the series. good luck to your success author. you might want to go back thru... often your archer 'ALEX' keeps getting confused with male or female... or i guess we can chalk it up to monty just not remember if he was a man or she was a women... i kept reading she did this or she did that then he did the other thing... anyway, i did finish it cause i like to do that with a book but i won't continue on.
This is a familiar LitRPG / Isekai setup - Monty gets (unwillingly) transported to another world and has to figure out magic and survival in a much grimmer environment. The story follows Monty as he learns and travels the world and grows in his abilities. I enjoyed that enough.
But… I struggled with the odd phrasings, difficult editing - from the simple topic of who was acting, to the name of the caravan (usually “Mumur” but sometimes “Murmur”) to the humanoids they ran into (which changed from elf to human to elf in a single paragraph).
First the good. It was well written and a very fun read. I liked the characters and actually laughed pretty hard at some lines.
Now the bad. The last chapter chapter or so was just there. Battle, main(ish) characters die, then it's over. It just ends. Now you get to wait a month and a half to see what happens.
You may want to wait until closer to the second book's release date to pick this one up.
Kind of up in the air on this. It was an interesting start to a series, and no one advanced to far or seems overpowered. Looks like this could turn out to be interesting especially if the author gets the characters fleshed out a bit more and give more substance. Monty seems to be a bit dark and moody, needs a kick in the butt to get him going. I'll be looking for the next to see what happens.
I listened to 4 hours of this 14 hour audio book and then quit for one simple reason: I was bored. I've listened to and enjoyed slower books but those books did a better job of character development. After 4 hours I didn't care about the MC or any of the characters really. I am giving the book 2 stars because this is a somewhat subjective basis for criticism and I did not find any other flaws with it.
Not sure if the author is simply an inexperienced writer, or is not a native user of English, or if this has been translated from another language. Whatever the case, while the story itself is fine, it needs a heavy editorial pass to correct the numerous malapropisms and poorly constructed sentences, to make it truly readable.
I really enjoyed this. I loved the fact that this book is about a kindly old man who dies protecting children and begs his god for help. And his god snatches another kind old man who just died and puts his soul into the other old guys body. But they still are just happy healers looking to protect people. I love that.
Hard to rate as it is a DNF. Was not into it. not really that interesting and did not follow its own rules. The magic was not explained or that interesting. just keeps going but does not explain anything to keep you interested. I so wanted to like it but it was just same old same old. Nothing really new or interesting to keep going.
This story was quite interesting and the MC likeable. He acclimated quickly to his new body and world. I liked that. I'm anxious to download the next book in this series. Would recommend!
While the story is good the writing is not. Apparently spell check was used, but the grammar is so bad it's hard to understand what the author is trying to say in some parts.
A 12hr audio book. This book felt like it went by slow, the writing was good and the story for what the title says is accurate. Overall, I cant say I am interested to continue on with the series, I think what gets me is the main characters personality, but, I did enjoy the book.
