‘Until we get respect, coloring is closed down? – Crayon abuse!
Author Jennifer Jones is a professional counselor and mental coach and writes children’s books that both entertain and provide lessons on socializing, good behavior, and emotions by illustrating concepts in the relatable terms of recognizable school tools. CRAYONS ON STRIKE is Book 5 of her ON STRIKE series.
With clever rhyming patterns and illustrations, Jennifer gives voice to crayons: ‘Of all the writing tools That are in the classroom hutch, We are the most colorful, But we are not thought of very much. We are used a lot, but sometimes, We’re used in all the wrong ways. We are ground down to wax bits, And mistreated on many days.’ Proceeding to outline all the ways crayons are ‘abused’ the crayons go on strike – and the result is a positive one: the children who have taken crayons for granted suddenly appreciate the crayons’ values and apologize and write them a note of appreciation – and all ends well!
Delightful to read and carrying a strong message about respect and kindness, this little book is one all children will love to read – and to learn! Very Highly Recommended

Great story idea and rhyme seems the right format for a story about walking; talking crayons. But a story like this needs a just-right rhythm which, unfortunately this one doesn’t have yet since many of the stanzas don’t actually rhyme.
This is a great book to help teach children to respect school supplies. I would read this at the beginning of the school year and once again if kids are breaking school supplies.
