Excellent history of the Delaware & Hudson Canal. Quite eye-opening to me. I had only read of the history from the perspective of D&H railroad historians and my recollection was that it was a successful company that was not beset by many problems. Lowenthal's book takes a deep dive into the canal history and I feel that although quite successful, it suffered many challenges that I was heretofore unaware of.

I found Lowenthal's writing to be quite amusing at times as he recounted events on the canal. I highly recommend this book for all fans of the Delaware & Hudson or canal historians.
