"A coming of age novel in the 1940s American Southwest about a seven year-old learning spiritual and social harmony from a local healer. Anaya uses many of the same literary techniques of my favorite children's authors (Judy Blume comes to mind): much repetition question-asking, which might feel a little predictable to older readers, but is comforting and nostalgic, too."

The voice of this book reminds me of the voices of many of my classmates. Fun come of age Chicano story, flavored with the Llano, Catholicism, a wise old woman and a heavy dose of Mexican cuss words. Glad I'm listening to it. I am a child of the Llano and the Luna (used here to also describe the farmer).
