okay so obviously this book is non fiction so the review will definitely be shorter than my usual (it will prolly be only this part but whatever) but the spells were so cute and interesting! 10/10 am probably gonna do some of them myself and tbh might see what my pagan witch friend thinks abt doing some of these spells with me. also i love this artstyle with a PASSION its so cute oml 😻 also the spells in this book feel authentic (look at me using posh words) and i honestly think if i tried one it would probably work. but overall this was super interesting and quick which is perfect for me right now so woohoo
i have nothing to read. i said i was gonna read powerless again but guess what? I LIEDDD 😼 (temporarily... im gonna read it later this year idfk when tho) so im gonna read this bc im just a girl who wants to use magical spells to have ultimate wisdom... or just have an unlimited supply of dr pepper or something
My librarian recommended it to me and I’m glad she did. It was similar to Wiccan Teas & Brews by Cerridwen Greenleaf.
Both are beginner spell and enchantment witch or Wiccan books. The Teen Witches Guide to Spells mentions spells, gemstones; moon phases, candles, and more.
It was interesting to read since I’ve been reading more fiction witch books now and learning about the practice. It’s nice to read a nonfiction witch book.
I came across this series in an article in School Library Journal which recommended it for middle schools. Given the huge amount of challenges happening in the country, lots of them very close to home, I was curious to see what this book was like. Luckily, most of the series was available to check out from a library to which I belong. I am not a witch, so I can't speak to how useful this book is to a practicing witch in any meaningful way. But as someone without any background, I thought it was very clear and provided an easy to understand introduction to casting spells. And although it wouldn't matter at all to all the censors out there, I appreciate that the author stressed the importance of intention and consent in casting spells. I would definitely recommend this to any teen who is interested in learning more about witchcraft.
There are a lot of hard rules in this book, "witches must" or "witches always" statements that I don't subscribe to. I also thought some of the spells were supply heavy, which is odd, because teens don't have an endless supply of resources and it would have made sense to focus on a few core items. However, the drawings are gorgeous and I did like several of the spells.
I wanted to read this so I could know what they are telling all the young witches to do. I didn't like the spell casting for better grades. I think suggesting meditation for a clear mind before and after studying would be better advice that doing a spell and saying ok now I've got it...that's just unrealistic.
Seems to follow Wiccan philosophies (never cast a spell to harm or change someone, Rule of Three, etc) but doesn’t actually mention Wicca or different types of/ideas about witchcraft. Also multiple spells instructions refer to an incantation with two parts when it is only showed as one.
