The beginning of my favorite cartoon firefly. SHUBERT! Of course, the book has its ups and downs, but it’s still a thumbs-up!
My only is problem is that the bully (Benny) never gets any sort of punishment for his actions. Mrs. Bookbinder, confusingly, doesn’t even intervene. WHAT?!

June 25, 2013This is a wonderful book for your library. Children are facing the "bully" problems every day and this is a book that will show them how to respond to situations like that. It is a book that will empower children! It shows different techniques children can use to handle those situations. You could model a situation with your students and guide them to the steps Mrs. Bookbinder took to help them solve the problem. For example:
-First value healing over hurting by going to the victim first (teacher)
-Use noticing statements (teacher)
-Help student label his/her feelings
-Assess level of assertiveness in the child asking: Did you like it when....?
-Model assertiveness using tone - Make your voice like mine -
