She wanted to bring honor back to her family's name and to save her people…
Falling in love wasn't part of the plan…

When Jaiya takes her twin brother's place on a diplomatic mission to end a war that's been raging since her childhood, she discovers how it all really began.

Disguised as a young male diplomat, Jaiya meets Prince Idris—her greatest rival in their space battles—his royal assistant, Erlyn—who never leaves his side—and is assigned to be guarded by Raizxl—who blames humans for losing his mate.

If she cannot convince her people and the enemy to put aside their differences and choose peace instead of war, she risks returning as a traitor to her race instead of as a hero.

The longer she's in their presence, the more she feels at home amongst those in their space station.

Determined to save their people at any cost, something about them calls to her—and she does not know why.

When they discover the truth, will they be able to get past her betrayal to work toward peace? Or will it only add fuel to the fires of war?

Book 1 of 3 in The Cosmic Honor Trilogy - inspired by the Chinese myth, Mulan.
Some of this story was published under the title Cosmic Honor as a MF standalone romance, since then, it has been altered, expanded and changed into a slow-burn, slow-building, why choose / polycule romance where the FMC has more than one romantic interest, with two of them together. This book ends on a cliffhanger.

Bittersweet but lovely

Jaiya is a woman on a mission. Or rather a woman pretending to be a man on a mission. Humans treat women with little regard. The aliens she's headed off to broker a peace treaty with hold humans in little regard. Either way she's facing an uphill battle.

Spoilers ahead.
This was a rewrite of a previously M/F, now a poly, romance. I like the new depth added to it. The new angles, the emotions added. We have 4 main characters: Jaiya pretending to be her brother Aydain, Idris the prince, Erlyn the pronce's assistant, Riaxyl (think I spelled that wrong) the bodyguard assigned to protect her during the talks. Jaiya saw her brother fold before he'd even finished packing and knew the language and details enough to protect him, the govt was basically sacrificing him, and took over his mission. Idris, neither next in line for the throne or in charge of the base, was left in charge because the war has left them thin. Erlyn is trying to keep things smooth and assist Idris however he can, running himself ragged. He's also been in love with Idris for years, but both know love in war comes with risks. Riaxyl is a widower, having lost his starmate to the war, to humans in a battle. He resents Jaiya at first but seea she's actually serious about the peace talks. And had no clue about the betrayal that started the war. A lot comes to light and it ends on a mild cliffhanger. I can't wait to see how the next book unfolds. All the revelations, the betrayals, the emotions involved, the promises made, there's going to be a lot to unpack. And there's still a 3rd coming after that, whew. Trigger warnings for misogynistic behavior from ranking male humans. Also for anyone that doesn't care for M/M relationships. Love is love but not everyone enjoys all the varieties of love out there. This is a poly romance, not a F centered RH, and the relationships form individually before they come together for the polycule.

Good

WARNING! This has a big cliffhanger (and yes, even the author warned us) that rates the ultimate 5/5 on my trauma scale. I’m not a fan of cliffhangers, but this one is actually worth it.

Taking her brother’s place on a diplomatic mission was Jaiya Lian’s attempt to secure peace between the Daextru and the Humans in a war that has gone on far too long. Desperate for peace, she takes on a risk that puts her life in danger, and allows her to know the people she has fought against for so long, but can it work?

This is the first book in a trilogy, and as such it is only 1/3 of the story, and ends on a pretty big cliffhanger as the first part of the story arc ends.
It’s an intriguing tale, with mysteries, betrayal, and a faint hint of manipulation by an unseen foe.
There is romance, MM, and slow burn MF, as well as action and adventure.
Since our heroine is masquerading as a man for much of the story, it allows us to look a little deeper into the characters of the MMCs, and we find some very interesting things there, although I admit to being a little mad at one of them by the end of the book!
Grab your tissues, and maybe preorder the second book, as you’re taking for a faster than light ride into a fascinating space themed tale.
A thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable read for the sci-fi romance enthusiast.

2.5

I like the premise, world, and the characters but there are some inherent problems with the plot. The entire story is built off the h taking her brother's place at a peace summit. In order for the h to do that it causes her to show up alone to a peace summit. It makes the entire story fall apart before it even begins. No nation, group, region, solar system etc. is going to believe that a single person would be sent to a peace summit. That the single person wouldn't even have an assistance. It makes even more unlikely when that single person flies their own fighter jet. Come on!!! No one is going to buy into that. Which is too bad because the story (minus the huge plot fail) is pretty decent. Well pretty decent for this type of genre.

The ending is even more ridiculous but gives the author a reason to have a 2nd book. Though, there are enough things brought up in the book that the author didn't need the super lame and ridiculous ending. Like why the humans are in the war? What and who are working the enemy? Who sabotaged the first peace summit? All of those things could have been a reason for the 2nd book. But nope, the author used a lame reason.

Space Mulan? Yes Please!

What an ending!

I loved the original version, and then this one is just as epic. I'm so glad Jade didn't end it where she originally wanted and gave us a better closure.

This tale is different than the original, and focuses on two relationships involving the people of what I assume will become the final cast of the polycule.

We get to learn more about the cast, including the struggles Jaiya has to go thru to try to play the part as her twin brother, and try not to fall for the prince she's had a crush/respect for for a long time.

I wonder what will happen now that her identity has been discovered and the human government will want to discipline her for what she's done.

All I know is... I hope the promise Raizxl made to her is fulfilled, cause it was romantic. <3

When I found this book and saw that the second one is coming in a year, I thought that it is a low risk, maybe I won’t like the first one. Maybe I wouldn’t need to wait for the next one. Big mistake! 😂🙈

Finally an interesting gender switch story! In space, on a diplomatic mission to make peace between humans and aliens 👀 That I like 😁🪐 The mission is for kamikaze only.

Loved the tension between main characters, it’s a very veeeery slow burn, there is only MM in this one. Every minute you are guessing if now would be the moment when they figure out that it’s she not he 🤪 Men questioning themselves.. Love love love such moments 😁🔥

Fighting, new surroundings and living conditions. Deadly situations, revelations, possible fated mates.. 😏

Patiently waiting for the second book now 😇

Roller coaster!

Oh my Stars!!
I fell into this book and fell absolutely in love with all the characters!! I can’t wait to see how their stories unfold. The storyline is strong, as are the characters and of course they have softness but only for the right beings, overall truly great writing and world building!!
I can’t believe I have to wait for a little over 9 months for the next book and then longer for the third book!! 😭😣
I can’t even handle this cliff hanger, I need the next books NOW!!! 😱😭🥹

What a great story

I loved that this is loosely based on Mulan! Jaiya is such a wonderful character - fierce, intelligent and honorable. The males around her thought her worthy till a betrayal sets her back to just human. All except one male who sees her and is determined to save the warrior he fell in love with. But it begs the question does Idris also deserve this fierce woman? And will he be able to grovel? Looking forward to book 2.

So close to great

This book has wonderful world building. I want to see the other stories of beings living in this universe. The characters are strong and multifaceted. The writing is where everything falls flat however. Repeating of lines and explaining things that were already explained not even one chapter previously got very distracting and flung me out of the immersion. Continuing to the next book because the character development pulls me.

Really?

Have to wait a full year for the next book? Unbelievable!!
Why in the world the guard would let her return to her people when he loves her that much and then risk all to rescue her.? I don't understand that logic. If he going to turn rouge why not do it before she has to suffer punishment? I'm disappointed but I'm still interested in the next book.

Cosmic Valor

Jade Waltz has done it again. She writes such passion between characters in this world among the stars. I really look forward to where this series will go.
