Politics and love can make strange—and sometimes deadly—bedfellows

USA Today Bestselling Author Susan Kiernan-Lewis is back with another exciting romp through Paris with her quirky older sleuth Claire Baskerville.

When a high-ranking American politician is murdered in the bed of a young sex-worker, the US embassy and the Paris police make fast work of its obvious political implications and blanket the case. It never made the papers—or social media—but when the politician’s daughter, Madeleine, comes to Claire and Jean-Marc—now working together—to beg them to find the truth about her father’s death, they know they must help.
In the process they discover a harrowing secret that many powerful people will do anything to hide--including the murder of a young American woman determined to get justice for her father.

A gala at the US Embassy in Paris leads to one unforgettable night for an ex-Senator who is found dead the next morning in his hotel room along with a drugged prostitute. Drawn into the case as an old friend, Claire Baskerville and her partner attempt to get to the truth of the man's death.

Claire Baskerville novels are always a wonderful palate cleanser for me whenever I need a reading "treat". Murdering Madeleine proved a delicious read, giving me a puzzling mystery to wrap my mind around. As the eleventh book in the series, the characters are well-defined, and the story gave me a sense of homecoming.

What a tricky puzzle Susan Kiernan-Lewis set for us this time! I locked onto my solution fairly early on and, needless to say, I was wrong. As usual. The story ran in a completely different way than I had anticipated, and it was with delight that I read the final pages. The conclusion was imminently satisfying and much more creative than I had dreamed.

A quick caution: as with all the "American in Paris" books, this story is grittier than most cosies, containing tense scenes and on-page violence.

An ok read, but lots of stuff kept coming up about things done in books before this one. Still much time on domestic things, what food they are eating, what hotels and restaurants look like in Paris and some things thrown in about the mystery and killings. Definitely seemed like the murder thing was an after thought. And then there is this really strange thing about finding a baby from her daughter's stolen frozen egg. Like, huh? Not something I've ever run into or thought about before and am fine with not thinking about again.
To me, it's a 3 out of 5, but reviews were thinned a few years ago by Amazon, so in their scheme, it rates 4.5, where I look for decent ebooks.
I'm used to the mystery and murders being of prime attention and what flowers are in vases etc being way down on the list. So this was a different read for me, but good enough to see it through.

You can picture yourself walking through the streets of Paris while reading this book. It is the perfect backdrop for a book of intrigue love and mystery. What starts out as a beautiful night At a spectacular gala ends in tragedy. But Claire will find an answer to all the problems and Along with Along with her Own wonderful Frenchmen.

This is the 11th book in the Claire Baskerville series. In this one she and her lover and partner Jean-Marc are investigating the murder of an American politician in Paris.
Lots of twists and turns but the whole story comes out in the end - this is a fun series and looking forward to the next one coming out

outstanding!

Susan has done it again! I love her work. I love the characters. I love the plot. Usually I read her books really fast (because they are such page turners) but this time I made it last a few day. It was difficult but it’s such a long time to the next release! Thank you Susan for another wonderful read!

While a good read the story kind of turned around halfway thru and totally changed direction. Not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. In a hurried wrap up some questions were left unanswered.

One criticism - it’s evident that the character loves Paris and her grandson. But do we have to hear about it so often? And often at the expense of Americans by way of comparison.

Fabulous!

Thank you for another wonderful book in the Claire Baskerville mystery series. As usual I couldn't put it down. The mystery was great (I had my suspicions but wasn't sure about the outcome until Claire found out), but I really loved getting more involved in Claire's personal life, with Jean-Marc, Genevieve, and of course Robbie and Izzy. Learning more about Paris is also a plus. I have the next book in the series so will be seeing what's next in Claire's life quite soon!

An 'OK' book, certainly not a nail biter. I know it's a work of fiction, but I can't get past the fact that Claire is escaping down a Paris sewer but the author didn't think she should have Claire getting checked out at a hospital. Yuck!

disappointed

I was very bored with the writing. Characters were not believable. Found myself falling asleep at times. The trip she made was such a waste of writing to fill a page.

Another very interesting saga with Clair Baskerville and Jean Marc solving several perplexing issues. I’ll be sorry when this series comes to an end and will need to find something else equally good.
