"One day you will step outside to walk through the woods, hear the birds in the canopy of the oak tree, and remember how much you adore life..."
In this quietly life-changing book, Lucy Fuggle shares a collection of musings on the art of courageously finding your way when you need it most, grounded in the beauty, wisdom, and comfort of nature.
Woven into her musings on nature and life are poignant lessons about acceptance and self-love, exuding a warm aura of comfort, compassion, and solace. It’s a book to turn to at the most difficult moments: during anxiety, depression, or when feeling lost. Turn to any chapter for a balm for the soul – and a reminder that things will get easier and more beautiful.
With nurturing words and nature by your side, step forward on your journey with more boldness, creativity, self-assurance, and kindness than ever before.
Lucy Fuggle is also the author of Mountain Song: A Journey to Finding Quiet in the Swiss Alps, her memoir about the transformative years she spent living alone by the mountains in Switzerland.
If you love reading poetry, and also books like The Comfort Book by Matt Haig you will definitely love this one as you will find what you're exactly looking for. Something relatable, something trustworthy, something comforting and something reliable.
I love the full paged illustrations!
Totally worth reading it like it's a manifesto that talks about mental health and everyday life in general.
All the motivation you will need ever.
Thank you, BooksGoSocial, for the advance review copy.

I picked this up kind of on a whim. The cover is (obviously) gorgeous and the author said she was inspired by Mary Oliver, one of my favorite poets. Your Life in Bloom was a really lovely, short reflection on nature and life that rolled up a lot of the lessons I am continuing to learn into a sweet, beautifully illustrated package. Something I expect I will turn back to :)
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Your Life In Bloom was a book that drew me to it by the cover and I'm so glad I took a chance and gave it a read. As I read through this book I felt like I had had time with a close friend. This book made me feel relaxed and soothed from start to finish. Each chapter is short and sweet and I loved how the author connected nature within this book. This book helps guide you to ways you can approach life in different ways and control things such as anxiety and stress and even introducing forms of mindfulness within these ways. This is a short but helpful self-help book that is definitely worth a read!
I'm so glad that I spontaneously chose to request this book despite being a self-help hater for years, it also helped that this book continuously didn't tell me I am living my life in a wrong way. Something about the book felt nice, maybe it's the title or the cover, the connection with nature that compelled me to read the book. I'm so glad that I did. The narration didn't feel intimidating rather it was like talking with a friend after having a bad day. The words were so soothing and gentle. They didn't make me feel pressured to do anything right NOW., Only reminded that I have a choice, the power to take hold of my life whenever I want to. The interrelation between nature and human life is beautifully portrayed and the illustrations are gem. At the moment I'm going through a shitty situation and hearing about her own experiences and relating them to mine helped me more than I hoped. Recommended!
Delightful, comforting, and inspiring words I've found in Your life in Bloom. I live with anxiety, depression, autism, and post-traumatic stress, and reading your book brought peace and light.
I was excited to read Lucy Fuggle's self-help book, and the title immediately drew me in. It takes a lot to walk the thin line of self-help books successfully, as so many are currently saturating the literary market. In an age where so many people struggle with their mental health, Fuggle's book is an enticing read, perfectly intertwining ideals of self care and nature and making these ideas accessible.
Whilst in places Your Life in Bloom does succeed, there are parts where the book becomes monotonous and another regurgitation of the same facts as every other self-help book on the shelves.
When reading a self-help book, I want to see a unique experience and understanding of the world; an alternative way to help people. That is, to an extent what makes this book an attractive read. It is loaded with rich imagery of nature and mythical beings such as the phoenix, images which - when standing independently - are powerful affirmations that touch the core and warm the soul. One particularly touching example is in 'Every time you reach a new low, you have a phoenix moment.' Rising from the ashes of despair is a beautiful and moving image, and I know so many people who I could press this book into the palms of. It is a book that many will be queuing to buy, and one that I know I will extract quotes from and share with people I love. Your Life in Bloom is above all else, a book that can genuinely help nurture the soul and bring life to the struggling mind.
The issue for me personally was that it became far too repetitive.
Each chapter follows the same very short, perhaps even too short, formula. A couple of paragraphs and then quick one-liners to round off the point. In some respects, this is like reading a TED Talk, but Fuggle passes making a point in her repetitiveness and instead progresses to a stage where this reinforcement becomes irritating. After the first half, the images are repeated, the phrases are slightly tweaked before being uttered again, and the significance of each word, each line, unfortunately loses its meaning. I didn't feel I was learning anything new in the second half of the book that hadn't already been said, which is a real shame.
Fuggle's book will be a great success, and her perspective on nature as a great healing power is timely and increasingly relevant in our Post-Covid society. The book isn't heavily loaded with facts but laced with empathy and understanding. Overall, although a little long-winded, Your Life win Bloom WILL help people find comfort in nature, and with some truly stunning quotes, how could anyone resist?
I recently read the author’s memoir-type book Mountain Song and was instantly a fan of her writing style, so I was very curious to read another of her books when I saw it available as a NetGalley eARC. Her writing is simple yet illustrative and flows well, making this book a relaxing read similar to her other book.
Each chapter is short, perfect for reading only a few at a time and pondering on them or putting some of the author’s advice into practice each day. I appreciated this and how the book wasn’t too long. I personally was in the mood to spend a day reading, so I read the book in one sitting. Sometimes self-help or personal growth type books can contain so much information that it’s hard to do anything productive with it. Having less to ponder on and apply to one’s life is a lot simpler and in the end will likely produce more depth than a ton of information.
I have to disclose that I a different belief system that the author seems to hold, so I of course don’t agree with everything she shares as “truth” (just one example is when she says “you are the only one who can save you.” As a Christian believer I know it’s the opposite, only Jesus can save and help us at times because we don’t have the full ability or all the answers without Him).
Nonetheless, I still appreciate this book’s perspective and insights, which contains ideas that can help one approach life in a more restful way that can help manage stress and even things like anxiety, grief or slights such as impatience (so long as Christ followers like me filter them through the truth as necessary, of course we aren’t the main audience for the book.)
One of my favorites was in some of the very first bits of advice she shares about noticing the beauty around us and getting out of ourselves, such as enjoying the feeling of a breeze blowing by. This helps so much to get your mind off the things in life that are worrying or stressing you. Things such as this very often help me relax when in the midst of stress, anxiety and other frustrations.
My favorite chapters were “Trust the seasons of your life” and “Types of tiredness.” As the author expresses with beautiful prose and metaphors, it’s so important to know when to rest and when to be active, as well as just how much and what type of rest you truly need. Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read this book and discover a new author!
I received an advanced reader copy of this book for free from Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions are my own.
The book reads like a collection of thoughts. It doesn't feel fully prose, but it's also not traditional poetry. I'm not really sure who this book is for. The single page per topic format suits a method of reading style that includes thought about the topic of the day, but it can feel disjointed if you want to read several pages at once.
It does feel a bit disingenuous to call this a "manual" when it's more "thoughts on my experience" but it can be helpful to read a bit about someone else's experience. The beautiful illustrations definitely help.
4 stars because it's generally positive and uplifting despite the random feel of the writing and formatting. I'm not sure who I'd recommend this book to, and that's my biggest reason why I couldn't give it 5 stars.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an eARC for this book in exchange of an honest review!
I picked up this book out of curiosity because the cover is beautiful. I expected nothing, just some self-help book with a pretty cover. However, this book surprised me. It lets me slow down while I devour every word of it, it lets me take a moment to look around and match my pace with nature, it lets me breathe. I might not immediately apply all the sweet, gentle words into my life but some of the encouragement will surely stay in my head for a long time.
It’s really more advice than a manual, seeing as a manual tends to explain how something operates and this is more just a series of advice prompts, that create an opportunity for us as the reader to take a moment and be completely in the moment and learning from the world around us.
The advice is good, and the author adds their own story to help build camaraderie with the reader, and give examples of how the advice might play out.
I like this book, and if you are curious, give this a go, you might like it.

Lucy's book is just what is needed in today's world because so many people need the courage to bloom into their better selves. The author writes in a way that keeps your attention very easily. Her words are full of encouragement and help with changing the path that the reader is going on. She gave a lot of encouragement and practical tips which I think make this manual very useful.

Forget all about all the “chicken soup” feel-good books. Forget all about the usual motivational or inspirational books. This is the new way to go. Each page will remind you how lucky you are to be alive, how good it is to be you and what makes you the you you are now, and how awesome it is to be you. Love!
It's an amazing poetry self-help book. It's been a relaxing experience reading this book. The illustrations are so calming and beautiful as well. This would be a book to pick up when you are having one of those bad days.

This was an amazing book. It was one I didn’t even know I needed. If you are a fan of self help as well as nature and almost a whimsical vibe, I think you will get something out of this. I appreciated the mix of casual (easy to digest) writing style with actionable tips. Overall I would rate this 5/5 stars and would recommend to those who deal with anxiety, depression, self esteem, loneliness and codependency.
