What’s an elderly woman to do when a lich destroys her home and tries to take her life? Why, she gathers up her friends, her kitties, and her newfound powers as a hybrid core and gets to work. With only 199 days to deal with the lich, Florence must take the dungeon she calls a home on the road and eliminate the source of the lich’s power: infected dungeon cores.
Whether these infected cores will become enemies or allies remains to be seen, but they aren’t the only threat Florence and her friends will face. Others will seek to use Florence’s unique nature for their own gain or destroy her for what she has become. A powerful lich, the adventurers guild, and even a grieving king will stand in her way, but Florence has friends of her own and the best thing in the entire world at her side… her kitties.
Join Florence in the epic conclusion to the Cat Core series in Cat Core, Book 3: Road Trip.
The whole trilogy was good but I think this last book was the best of them all. So true what Florence said to lich.. You can't control a cat. Cats choose their person whether the person likes it or not.
4/5 This was a fun LitRPG Dungeon Core Trilogy (a book featuring game mechanics where the main character is actually a dungeon).
Picking up immediately after The Lich's Bargain, Florence Valentine old biddy and resident cat lady is on the move after her core was destroyed and she is brought back as some sort of weird hybrid core. She is a regular adventurer who is forced to transform back into her dungeon once a week. She now sets off with her kitties and gnome friend to bring an end to the Lich. Picking up new eclectic team members along the way. A spoony bard, a beast core, and a slime.
A solid paced adventure with good humor that doesn't over stay it's welcome. It knows its niche and fills it nicely with a solid and enjoyable wrap up to the series as a whole.
Recommended for LitRPG fans looking for something different or those who really like cats.
This series is a fun take on the idea of dungeon cores.
Florence is a cranky old lady (with all the stereotypes) when she is swept into the world of dungeon cores. Rather than follow the rules, she wrests control to do things her way. And this book takes that further as she struggles to survive in the strange new world of magic and monsters.
This is the Valentine residence. Please wipe your shoes before going in. No solictors. Beware of Doug.
Road Trip, book three of the Cat Core series by Dean Henegar, again picks up right where the last book leaves off. Florence Valentine, hybrid core and little old cat lady, has a quest - destroy the lich Berikoz or die trying. Florence gathers her friends and defenders to set off on a road trip to find and eliminate the source of the lich's power: infected dungeon cores.
This was a satisfying and exciting end to the series. The stakes get tense for Florence and team as they encounter so many enemies blocking her path. I enjoyed how the characters grew over the series, with Florence and Doug arguing like an old married couple, Fizz with his gnomes leaning in to building unusual defenses to help on the quest and even how some of the kitties bonded with a couple characters. There are a couple of parts that had me laughing out loud too. Florence did exactly what I was hoping for at the very end making for a heartwarming epilogue. I'd love to read a short story follow up or spin off series in the future based on this idea.
I listened to the audio book narrated by Andrea Parsneau. Parsneau's narration continued to be top notch for the entire series.
Ohhhh man, I love Road Trip once Florence receives her marching orders from Michael she rolls up her sleeves/core and gets to it! It's time for a Road Trip without dawdling as she's on a time-limit. Her mission: to stop the lich, if possible. And the trip is soooooooo much fun. So grab the audiobook and let Andrea Parsneau take you another realm in this final book. You won't want to miss it!
Here's a couple of quotes that amused me:
“Yeah, we kind of took him in, like a stray, but he’s more useful and less smelly than most strays,” Florence said.
This was a good story with drama, some tense moments and several parts made me laugh. The new characters introduced are all interesting and I'm just sorry it's over. I definitely love the cats too!
For the Epilogue: What a neat take on the possibilities available to dungeon cores! I know this is the end of this series, but I'd definitely read a spin off. :)
An enjoyably series that's pretty light hearted. While the dungeon (home) kitties respawn there are some unpleasant deaths so if you might be bothered by this be warned. Again they are able to come back as cute and sweet as they always were and not deterred by death so it was fine for me. The first two books are pretty short and the last one a bit longer to wrap everything up. I recommend if you'd like a different take on the core style books.
Knowing this was the last book in the series (and years have passed since this was released so it's unlikely there are more to come), I wasn't sure if this would have a happy ending or not. And I won't be spilling the beans one way or another. But I will say that I believe the finale of the Cat Core series was very good. :) I'll miss Florence, Doug and their other cohorts! A great wrap-up of the series.
This was a charming final installment. The pacing was great and there weren't any tedious info dumps that so many dungeon core books feel the need to have. The ending nicely tied up the loose ends in the book, and the result is a fantastic ending.
This was a heck of a good ride!! I love the MC Florance and her strange additudes and interaction towards the RPG world. Narrator does a Great job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline. I highly recommend this Series!!
Glad this finished as a trilogy rather than going on too long. The old-woman comments sometimes got on my nerves more than anything but otherwise a satisfyimg end to a unique series
This turned out to be one of the most fun series I've read (listened). What a great MC, her relationship with Doug is so heartwarming. A completely satisfying ending as well. Very well done. 👍🏽👍🏽
3.5 stars. Would have been higher, but the stats repetition grew very long and very little changed each time. Would have liked these condensed or to have Florence just mention what actually changed.
In this final story, Florence and Doug took on their nemesis and won. I loved that Florence could move about and meet people, including other cores. The end was a welcoming surprise, I wish I could visit Florence and Doug's new home, but I guess I can only do that in this book.
