This was a well-done but quite serious picture book. A lonely, angry old man finds a tiny child washed up on the shore, and in nursing her back to health finds his heart also returning to life. But is she human, or a lost fairy? How can he protect this minuscule creature in a dangerous world?

For older readers, frankly still kind of a downer, but worth picking up.
This book is beautiful and terrifying. It is well written and translated and the art work is wonderful, but dark and made my three year old granddaughter jump in horror. Yet still, she loves it and asks for it over and over but also asks the big questions we have no answer to. Why does the old man die? What happens to the little girl when she disappears?
