Izzy Sterling survived a traumatic kidnapping, but her resulting anxiety forces her to shut herself off from the world. At her therapists urging, she faces her fears and volunteers at Crossroads Mountain Retreat—a soon-to-be place of healing for law enforcement and veterans and the very place she was held captive. When evidence is found that the sex-traffickers who abducted her have returned, she’s thrown right back into a past she’s tried so hard to forget.
Fresh out of the police academy, Beau Davis is ready to prove himself as an officer, but more than anything, longs to find the person responsible for hurting Izzy. He’d hoped her moving back to town would prompt him to finally confess his feelings—feelings he’d locked away after she left for college and never looked back—but her recent trauma keeps him from laying his heart at her feet.
When someone comes after Izzy, it’s clear she’s a connection to the criminals they want to silence. Beau’s vow to keep her safe gives her a strength she thought she’d lost. When the nightmare she’s already survived once becomes her new reality, Izzy must fight for the life she wants. A life with Beau by her side.
Danielle M Haas is a stay-at-home mom turned author. When she isn’t writing fast-paced romantic suspense novels with mysteries to live for and romance to die for, she’s busy being a taxi driver to her two busy kids and forcing her introverted self to talk to other soccer moms. Her kids and husband are her world, which is also shared with her hyper Bernie doodle, two sassy cats, and one leopard gecko who’s happy to chill on a rock all day. Her days are packed with cuddles, kisses, and a brain constantly thinking of new ways to create danger and romance for her next book.
I feel like we are missing a book before this one. Like where Beau and Izzy were kids, their high school years and what happened when Izzy ghosted Beau, but most especially when she was taken before. I felt totally lost on things.
I did like both Izzy and Beau, thought Izzy was doing good to do the hard thing and go back to where she was kept. I was glad that she had the support she did, especially when she was almost taken again. I'm glad that didn't get dragged out longer, glad that they did get all the bad guys and Izzy could feel safer living her life, glad she is doing that with Beau by her side.

Izzy had to leave to find herself.... didn't she? Even if it breaks both their hearts...
But Beau has never stopped loving her and this current threat only cements his feelings as he falls deeper, his heart shatters at the fear and pain she is fighting, and he feels guilty for wanting to pull her into his arms and protect her from the world...but what if that's what she needs? Izzy has spent the last six months fighting the memories, but now the threat is back and the terror is debilitating, the only place she feels safe is with Beau, preferably in his arms. But dare she ask for forgiveness, for his love once again? YES! Yes! Ask, ask, ask! It is beautiful seeing Beau and Izzy get a second chance at first love, neither one stopped loving the other, so to find their way back together is surely destiny, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. I love this prequel and cannot wait to read the rest of the series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
This introduction to a new series certainly grabs the readers attention and leaves you wanting more. I thoroughly enjoyed the pace and flow of the story and will be eagerly anticipating the next story in the series.
I love this series, well written, interesting characters, engaging background, it all comes together for what promises to be an exceptional series. Love your writing style Danielle M Haas, a fan for life here!
Swallowing past the wedge of terror lodged in her throat, she prepared the question she’d held back while her mom had been in the room. “Do you really think someone is after me specifically? Is targeting me?” Good love story, but needs more detailed action.
Great set up and beginning to introduce this series. A wonderful second chance story, as Beau is there for Izzy as she navigates past trauma while dealing with new danger frighteningly related to that past. Danger, suspense, action, and strength come together to weave a great story of love and overcoming.
A good story of a revival of friendship and love of a young woman that had been kidnapped and rescued is taken again but is rescued and finds happiness
Crossroads of Revival, the prequel is AMAZING! This Romantic Suspense series is amazing and an absolute must read! A Summer getaway camp turned camp refuge for injured law enforcement creates a backdrop for amazing stories!
The perfect introduction to this series and I have to say after reading an ARC of book 1 in the series it doesn't slow down at all
Izzy Sterling may have escaped from the human traffickers that took her but she isn't living her life scared of everything and everyone she is just existing Then her councillor suggest she volunteer and the new refuge been built exactly where she was rescued from. What no one knows is that she will have to face her fears as the traffickers come after her again but this time she has Beau in her corner the boy she walked away from who is now the man who could be her future is she lets him in
Beau and Izzy were connected in the past but their feelings never went away. Izzy recently was involved in a kidnapping and returned back to her home town. Beau has left the police academy and is trusted with helping Izzy with keeping safe, with the potential of her kidnappers being back on scene. Overall this was an enjoyable quick read and i certainly would be interested in reading more in this series. Suspense, romance and heat made for a great book.
Fasten your seatbelt and be ready to go from zero to sixty in one chapter. The prequel novella to the this new series takes off right from the start and doesn’t let up until the final word is read!
I managed to find the Injured Heroes series prequel after I'd read the series. It's a good quick read that takes place just as the Crossroads Mountain Retreat is beginning its existence. Izzy Sterling need to m9ve on and start to heal from the life altering event that occured months back. That means facing her demons at the place where she was held. It also means reconnecting to her best friend and man she loved but walked away from, Beau Davis. Having him at her side even if it's in his official capacity as a police officer gives her some comfort and courage to relive the crime if it makes capturing the rest of the trafficking ring. Beau wants to reconnect but not at the expense of having his heart broken again. It's time for honesty the forgiveness. Izzy's nightmare happens again but this time she fights for her freedom unwilling to go quietly and without a struggle. Ultimately, she triumphs both physically and emotionally. She starts living her life again. A life that includes her happily ever after, Beau.
What a book. The prequel to I know will be a great series. Crossroads Mountain Retreat will be a sanctuary for people to come to, and get help. Izzy Sterling has just been through so much and needs to heal. She’s facing what happen d to her head on. But when they find evidence that the sex-traffickers are back things are coming back for Izzy. Officer Beau Davis is on the scene at Crossroads Mountain Retreat to help out. When something happens to Izzy. He will do whatever it takes to bring her home safe. She matters so much to him. He will make sure she knows that too.
Some spelling and grammar errors throughout the book, but my main issue was it was too short. It's supposed to be a prequel but it felt like we were thrust into the middle of a story rather than the start of one. In this we get Beau and Izzy who were friends/sweethearts(?) before Izzy went off to college and then suffered a traumatic event. We get thrust right into the action with whoever Izzy's kidnappers were striking again but everything is solved so quickly and the relationship between the two hardly develops. Definitely didn't intrigue me enough to read about any of the other characters.
Whilst this is a short read it is pact full of suspense, second chances and great characters. Just when Izzy thought she was taking the first steps to move on from what happened to her months ago it appears someone is still after her but this time she has Beau the guy she walked away from a few years earlier. I l loved how Izzy decides to face what happened to her and how strong she shows herself to be in the face of danger and how Beau is right there with her. I absolutely can not wait for Crossroads of Revenge to see everyone again and find out what is install for them!
If you're triggered by kidnappings or being held captive this one might not be for you. It was tastefully done but everyone has to know their own triggers. This story was face paced and full of action. It had me trying to figure out who the bad guys were and what the special interest was in Izzy. It was suspenseful and I didn't want to put the story down until I know how it ended! I can't wait for the next book to see what happens in the little mountain community next.
Beau and Izzy. Great names and story! The retreat isn’t built yet or opened so this sets the stage for the community and a few of the characters such as Brooke, Cruz, and Zoe. The subject of human trafficking is in this book and told with strong emotions and examples. The family and friendships are detailed and help build a strong community and the scenery is colorful and has me wanting to see these mountains. A quick and engaging story!
She’s 21 — too young to be as mature as her character is written. And her police boyfriend can’t shoot a man who is holding her with a knife?? And she gets an opportunity to run over a bad guy with a construction vehicle and she stops to see if he’s alive?! Come on, just drive away! Writing was very mediocre — not planning to read the series.
This was a really well written book that kept the pages turning through the whole book. It was a nice fast read and left me adding more books to my TBR list as I want to learn more about the characters and how their lives evolve.
A short but action packed prequel. Izzy is struggling to cope with the aftermath of her previous ordeal and deal with her overprotective family. Just as she is taking steps forward her past comes back with a vengeance. A great ending with no cliffhanger and a HEA.
Loved this book. I loved the insights it gives to right before the retreat is opened. Another story that grabs you and you can’t put down! I look forward to more stories in this series!
This prequel is a great introduction to Crossroads Mountain Retreat and some of the characters that we will see in the series. It is a quick read and has me wanting to see what will happen next.
