K-9 Search and Rescue #4

My Darkest Night

Rate this book
Jessica Cooper and her SAR dog Luke are called out to a building collapse. What Luke discovers under the rubble shocks her. Then investigators discover that the explosion was intentional and link it to a series of other bombings. Jess’s husband Scott joins an FBI/ATF task force searching for the suspect.

While Scott chases the bomber, Jess continues her SAR activities. On a dark night, during a violent persistent storm, Jess sustains a horrible loss and is plunged into a pit of despair, her faith shredded.

But God isn’t finished with Jess. As she slowly begins to cope, life takes a surprising, positive turn. Reenergized, she puts on her PI hat and stumbles onto a key to the bomber’s identity. Soon the mad chase to find him leads her into another storm on another dark night—and another test of faith.

Linda writes "white-knuckle fiction"--FBI thrillers with a twist of faith--from her home in rural Virginia. She's had careers as a government worker, a stay-at-home mom, and a journalist. Her husband, Larry, worked at the FBI Academy for over 25 years. Together they have three grown children. These days, Linda stays entertained by two cats and a Sheltie who tries to herd them. When she's not writing, you can find her walking in the woods, at the beach or doing something (anything) with dogs.

Another inspirational page-turner! I love this series for many reasons. I am thoroughly drawn into each story, the setting, the characters, the challenges of life and how they handle them while trying to live their faith. I simply cannot put it down! My Darkest Night is the fourth book from this series that I've read this week!

In My Darkest Night, Jess & Luke respond to a SAR (Search & Rescue) call after a bombing and what Jess learns is shocking. Then in the middle of the night they are called out to find a diabetic man who went for a walk and didn't return. During this storm, the way is treacherous, there is a devastating loss as well as hypothermia and dehydration. Scott Cooper, Jess's husband is on a task force trying to find who is responsible a string of bombings which leads him to be working away from home for an extended period of time which poses challenges for the newlyweds.

Author Linda J. White has created a whole world with Jess, Luke, Scott, his daughter, and Nate and Laura. I thoroughly enjoy reading about their relationships and the joys and challenges they face. I can hardly wait to read book five!!

Highly recommend My Darkest Night and this whole K-9 Search and Rescue series!

This is a page turner! How what a great story! Learning to deal with self though many trials and listenng/waiting for God, is what Jess deals with throughout the story. She is a little too do it her own way, but she survives. I really like Jess and Scott relationship and watching them grow together. I do not know how much more Nate can take. He is certainly a surviver and a great believer! I have enjoyed this series and look forward for more novels from Linda J. White. I recommend this book to young adult and older.

My Darkest Knight

Trauma after trauma, Luke is missing swept away by a swollen creek but Jess will not give up. Laura and Nate want to adopt Harper but her dad is on the straight and narrow now and wants his daughter back. A serial bomber is on the loose and Charlie, Harper's dad is a victim, his house blown up and he's in bad shape. The bomber, Corey, A paranoid schizophrenic, and the son of the lead investigator is stopped, Charlie is offered a place to stay by Laura and Nate and Harper will live with them. Oh and Luke finds his way home. Great story.

Action packed novel that grips you til the end

I love Jess and Scott's relationship and the gripping fast paced drama, where I almost thought the agent heading the bombing investigation was the bomber! Various twists and turns, scary moments for beloved characters Nate and Laura, faith, action, drama and some romance completes the novel. Great read for drama lovers as well as K9 readers.
I hope to read more with Jess and Luke for sure

A rewarding read

I enjoy K-9 books, the fast passed action, the commaradty (sp?), the bonds they hold. Many object, but I found the Christian approach refreshing and even learned a bit.
(spoiler) You need a good hanky to read this one. The love and grief that unfolded,, was real. Everyone goes through grief in their own way and I didn't feel the characters responses were out of character.

I'm not sure if I've ever read another book by Linda White or not, but My Darkest Night was really a good book. I am a fan of other authors who write with dogs a part of their stories, but I think this book was a little different.

The characters were easy to follow, even though there were a lot of them, the storyline was very good, and you didn't want to put this book down.

A really good read.

I received a copy of this book to judge. I think I read one of the author's books years ago.
This is the 4th book in a series, and I missed some things by not reading the other three books first, but it was still an enjoyable read with great characters and plot. It did make me want to read the other three

Another excellent nail bitter

Just another day in the life of Jessica Cooper. To say this lady stays busy is an under statement. I love to read about strong female characters and the fact she has a dog is an added bonus. I cried at the thought of losing Luke, but so glad that God works in mysterious ways. Enjoy !!!

A great 4th book in the series. So much going on. The people we’ve come to love torn in so many directions. Vanessa Daniels does a fine job narrating EXCEPT for her awful mispronunciations!!! Every American should be able to pronounce Potomac correctly! And the now of a ship sounds like OW! When you get hurt! (Sighhhh)

Another winner!

This author has a wonderful talent for bringing her characters and stories to life. Everything is so real. She engages not just your mind but your heart as well with the way everything unfolds. You are always left at the end of the book with a resolved story, yet with an intense desire for more. On to book 5 for me!

Wonderful and uplifting. This story was so compelling I couldn’t stop reading it. Loved the characters and their faith through the good and bad. Poor Nate…in next one you need to take it easy on him. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Great writer

An intriguing, suspenseful story. Mrs White is not afraid to tell the reader that the Lord is always in control and we can trust Him. Backs it up with scripture.
A great story teller.

My Darkest Night

Loved the book. Very appropriate title for this book. Nate, Laurel, Jess and Scott definitely went through their darkest night. And Luke's were the worst of all. Amazing book.

She just keeps on rollin!

Linda White keeps her story line rollin along, changing up the story line, freezing you with fear and concern for both two and four legged characters but successfully bringing it to a conclusion. I’m already looking for the next installment!

Does not disappoint

Often, when you are into the fourth book of a,series, things go stale ,but not with this novel. The saga continues in a refreshing way and well worth the read. I am anticipating another voyage into the lives of these characters.

great series

I really enjoy this series. The SAR aspects are fascinating but the constant high emotional drama can inspire deep breathing exercises. Great characters and I hope this series goes far beyond the current six books.

This is a very good book by an extremely gifted writer.

The characters and story are enthralling. There is so much action, suspense, adventure and emotional involvement that it hard for the reader to keep pace but impossible to stop reading.

Page turner and tears

I hardly ever cry when I read a book. I have been reading since book one. To invoke my tears is just a small reminder that there are great authors who have Faith and not afraid to share it. You will enjoy this journey.
