What do you do when you find a naked pup in a box? Take him home, of course.
Harold had never heard of pup play before he met Taylor, but he's happy to try new things if it will keep this captivating young man by his side a little longer.
Taylor had never considered belonging to a Master, but Harold makes pup play feel like a natural part of their everyday life.
Both will never look at a box the same way again.

Won't You Be My Master? by Jacqueline Grey is a mm kink romance featuring pup play.
Harold and Taylor are seatmates on a mutual flight, and their paths cross again when Harold discovers Taylor drunk hungover one morning outside his apartment building. Taylor also happened to be practically naked and in his pup gear. Taylor needs a place to crash to avoid the apartment he shares with his ex until their lease is up. Harold is lonely and enjoys Taylor company, so offers for him to stay with him. He has never heard of puppy kink, but just goes with what feels natural to him. It isn't long until he has slid into the role of Taylor's Master. But there's a time limit to their living arrangement. Even though Harold gives Taylor everything he could ever want in a Master, he's afraid to impose on his hospitality. While Harold is afraid of moving too fast and asking Taylor to stay permanently. Taylor would happily call Harold Master. In fact, he'd beg to. He wanted to beg right now.
I fell in love with Taylor , both in and out of pup space. He was a sweetheart and charming even when his bratty side came out. I loved that his pup space was primarily about comfort, clearing his mind, relaxing or simply having fun. It was sexual at times, and those scenes with Harold are deliciously steamy. For the most part, I enjoyed Harold's character, he went with his instincts when it came to Taylor and his pup play. I liked that he took his time and didn't rush them intimately. I also really appreciated that he took the time to talk to someone with experience in the kink, and then talked with Taylor about limits and expectations. Together they were quite adorable and even though they only new each other a short time their relationship didn't seem overly rushed to me.
I belong here. They fit together like the proper key for a lock, and Harold never wanted to break away. "Just like this," he whispered. Taylor smiled. "Yes. Just like this."
Now what is keeping me back from giving it a higher rating. The biggest for me was when Hudson constantly compared Taylor to his actual dog who had passed away. He did it so often that it felt like he was using Taylor as a replacement for the pet he lost. It kind of felt off to me. It would have been one thing to have him reminisce that Taylor did something like his dog would have done. Instead on multiple actions would do something with Taylor because he did it becuase he did it with his dog. I don't know, others might not have an issue with it, but it bothered me. Then it was the fact that lack of communication was the major conflict of the story, neither one of them can speak up and say they want to keep living together. Lastly, WHERE was my epilogue?!?! It just ends and gave no peek at the couple further in their relationship.
Overall, I enjoyed Won't You Be My Master? by Jacqueline Grey. I think it did a great job with the pup kink, and I'll definitely be giving this author another read. A mm romance with a whole lot of pup play, an age gap, steam, and couch cuddles.
The good + Harold offering Taylor a place to stay when he realized Taylor really didn't want to go home + Taylor's honesty about his pup side + Harold accepting Taylor's pup side without question, and taking to it like a natural + Harold referring to Taylor's pup as "dog" in his head before he learned the correct terms + Harold having no issues buying food bowls for Taylor + How both main characters had friends they could rely on without question + Harold buying toys and kneepads for Taylor + Harold slowly figuring out what he wanted from Taylor + Harold demanding signals as an equivalent to safewords because pup Taylor couldn't talk, even though he had zero experience in kink + Taylor's attempt at doing something romantic
The neutral o I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. My review remains honest and unbiased o Many things were teased but never used (like Harold's toys, the talk about tails, and the thoughts about a pup name and a collar), which was a pity. However, the story ends in a good place, and some of these teases were probably a step too far for their relationship at that point o Harold's work was slow, and he had few clients. Yet he lived in a very, very expensive flat. Something didn't add up there
The bad - The complete lack of communication regarding their future living arrangements. They were both incredibly stressed and bummed out, but neither even thought for a second the other could also be feeling like shit and could use some reassurance - I didn't understand anyway why the end of their arrangement was such a looming issue. They both acted like it'd end their relationship on the spot, which is crazy and also shows a complete lack of communication and sharing of feelings - Kink was mixed with alcohol in this book multiple times. The first time, Taylor ended up passing out, that's how drunk he was. The second time, they went to a kink party to play. The fact that they even had alcohol at a kink party was already disturbing enough, but that the MCs indulged was even worse - Taylor should get new friends in general, if they let him leave a kink party blackout drunk without any of his personal items (including clothes). I also don't understand how he ended up where he ended up without anyone noticing at 10am, but well, it is fiction
This book was fun. I had a good time, and Taylor was adorable. I love how easily Harold accepted him exactly the way he was, and how he tried to make him happy. While I would have preferred better communication, especially from Harold's side as he had the power as the owner of the flat, and he was the Dom, I think the way they caught deep feelings for each other in a relatively short amount of time was very sweet. Would recommend to someone looking for a light romance with a sweet pup and a kind Master who hasn't done kink before.
So what would you do if you found a puppy in a box? Well if you are Harold, you take him up to your apartment. Thus starting the cutest way to begin your new kink.
So we have Harold, who met this really cute twink on a flight home to NYC. He thinks that Taylor is young and too hot to want to be with him. Also, Taylor is technically still living with his ex until the lease is up on the apartment they share. In case you didn't read the blurb, Taylor is into puppy play and is in desperate need of a Master. The Saturday after meeting on the plane, Harold is coming home from the market and finds a body in a box. And guess what? It was Taylor in a puppy outfit who was in the box and was mostly nekkid.
This was an instamaster relationship, I mean Harold pretty much jumped in with both feet and other than a couple of thoughts here and there, was all in. Taylor felt the same way, but being that both of them were dingdongs, they did not confess their feelings until the last page of the book.
While I enjoyed the story, it was really slow to me. Maybe if they were able to actually talk like grownups at some point, this would have flowed better, but even with that, I enjoyed it.
This was a sweet story between a younger man who loves puppy play, but there were definitely some things that affected my overall rating.
For one - it's a personal peeve of mine, but I find it really hard to believe, that someone who has no idea of kink, never engaged in it or researched or seen it, is the perfect master from the get go. Just because someone owned a dog, I don't know if they'd be the perfect master in puppy play.
And my biggest concern was that the communication between these two were horrible. They didn't even discuss Taylor's kinks until just over or at the 50% mark of the book, yet had engaged in scenes before then. And they were both so worried about not living together after the 5 week period but like, I don't know why that's a big deal if they would actually just communicate to each other and talk like adults. Communication - either lack of or misunderstandings - is just a huge thing for me in romances and I wish that we would move beyond making that the source of conflict and concern for a couple - just TALK.
Taylor is super sweet, Harold I'm not too sure about honestly. Also, I thought that their physical scenes were well written, but it was everything else that just felt a bit bland for me.
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
An absolutely adorable book about two guys who meet very unconventionally and, through desire for companionship and their very compatible personalities, find themselves building a lasting relationship. Now admittedly, you need to suspend reason for the setup of the living arrangements, some of the conversations (or lack thereof), and some of the kink (alcohol, primarily) – but this book isn’t about mimicking reality, so just move past it. There’s definitely some puppy play in the book, but it’s not what the book is about – it’s just another way these two guys are able to connect, even though one of them has never experienced it before.
The two MCs are a little awkward, a lot adorable, and their budding romance is fun and wonderful. This book was a light read and totally worth the time investment.
Taylor pup and Harold were such genuinely nice guys! They accidentally meet and something just clicks for Harold. He is so instantly accepting and drawn to Taylor pup! Their interactions were sweet and adorably awkward but the communicated so well! They were steamy together as well, but my favorite part was how much they accepted each other and wanted to please each other. A very fluffy and easy to read romance!
Wow, this is about the fluffiest, cutest, puppiest story ever. Totally loved pup Taylor and new to the kink, Harold. The dialogue was amazing and these two... hot!
A delightful slow-burn, age gap, kinky romance between two men who meet in a nontraditional way and fall into roles they’d never intended but that fit like a glove. The story is a cute as the cover and is one of the best puppy play stories I’ve ever read. Harold is a calm, giving, unflappable guy who decides to treat the human he finds dressed as a pup in the same way he would his beloved dog Missy who recently passed away.
When Taylor comes to heel, he’s awed by how smoothly this sexy older man just accepted him for who he is—with all his quirky, kinky traits—and without batting an eyelash. They fall naturally into a relationship, and little by little, Harold expands his knowledge of pup play, seeking advice from others in the BDSM community and offering new treats and adventures, to Taylor’s delight.
Perhaps it was the slow evolution of the kink aspect of their relationship or the smooth transition from Harold’s vanilla existence to the world of pup play, with baby steps all along the way, but whatever it was, this story flowed smoothly.
Their time together when Taylor was in his adult mind-space was interesting, hot, sweet, and evolved perfectly with plenty of humorous banter and serious moments. Both men were adults with regular full time jobs so neither was dependent on the other and it never appeared that older Harold was perving on younger Taylor. They simply “fit” like a matched set of salt and pepper shakers.
During one sex scene later in the story, Taylor realized he didn’t want his own pleasure and expected nothing in return—a feeling that went deeper than sex. “It was an extension of his pup play kink, but instead of fulfilling a need for himself, it awakened a desire in him to give, to share, to serve.” He’d never felt that way before, never having had a master to serve, and he knew then that Harold meant something special to him.
The universe does indeed work in mysterious ways, and both men were as grateful for their gift of love as I was to read about it. I’m very impressed with this new-to-me author’s work and will definitely return to their backlist for more.
Ugh. Darn, these two are so cute! Spent the whole night reading their story, because they were just too cute and I couldn't stop until I read it all. The morning was hard, but can't say I regret it.
Okay, the odds of this happening in real life are slim to none, yet this is fiction, so whatever. Their meeting was funny. I did wonder how anyone let him wander around the streets so drunk and in such get up. I thought kink meeting were supposed to be safe and regulated so such things do not happen, plus no alcohol if you indulge in kink, but oh well. As I said - fiction, so we can roll with the impossible here. Aside from those little things, their interactions really were natural. Harold took to being a Master like duck to water. It really came naturally for him, which was nice and a bit surprising. No hesitation or shame for him, so go Harold! Their communication could use some work, plus all that angst could have been avoided if they just talked to one another, but isn't that always the case? Overall, I thought it was a really cute, sweet kink story, a bit unreal, but such a nice fantasy material.
**I was provided an ARC of this book from the GRR for an honest review**
Oh, Harold and Taylor. What a mess you were. One of my biggest pet peeves is miscommunication or lack of communication. This book had a ton of the latter. The reason it bugged me so much here is this is a BDSM based relationship and communication is key. So to have two people not communicate well was irritating.
Harold takes a shine to Taylor right away when they first met. After missing that opportunity, he wasn’t going to let a Taylor get away twice. There is definitely some suspension of belief needed. Harold takes this perfect stranger and let’s him move right in. I guess one of the aspects I really liked was that Harold was willing to jump right in and learn for Taylor.
Taylor was sweet and bratty in all the right ways. He really needed to expand his social circle because the “friends” he had were terrible. And while I didn’t love that Harold treated Taylor as he treated his deceased dog Missy, I suppose it did give Harold a base to start with.
I absolutely detested that kink was mixed with alcohol several times throughout. I don’t feel like it makes for Safe/Sane/Consensual encounters. But maybe that’s just me. Overall, this was a relatively light and fluffy pup-play book. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
❤️❤️🐶A first read for this author with this book. A great beginning as Harold boards a plane eager to finally to get home. He meets a young person beside him on the plane and start to converse. Fast forward… Taylor was in a complicated relationship and was counting down days for the end of a lease. Taylor wanted a master for his dog play. A great first connection for both characters with both beginning attracted. They slid into place beautifully together. Coincidence and Harold finds Taylor on his doorstep nuked in a box. A natural progression for them falls into place begin dog and master that Taylor needed. I’ve laughed and aww although this book for them being a perfect match. They both had coincidental things in their lives that they’d blended with. I loved Taylor best Friend Joanne she’s a hoot in this book. A lot can happen in 5 hot weeks between them both, yah stuff Taylor’s ex he’s definitely not for Taylor. Harold is completely new to the play and doesn’t know what he’s doing, luckily he meets James for advice. A really great book to read that leaves you with warm fuzzies in a HEA ending.
Includes 40 years vs 25 years, Computer programming and assist photographer, laughter, humor and teasing, sexy scenes.
This is adorably sweet pup romance that sees Harold brought into this whole new world by Taylor when he finds the young man asleep in a box outside his apartment building. Taylor is written as such that you can easily imagine him with the characteristics of a puppy - the energy, fully body movements even traits such as a tilt of the head or scratching with a paw. Harold really steps into the role so quickly and easily, caring for Taylor as a pup, seemingly without a moments hesitation as though he's made for the role. They are very well matched though I thought things progressed, to start with, so quickly. The pace slows down once they settle into life living together and then it's more of a slow burner but with puppy play moments. I do agree with another review I've seen about including alcohol during kink parties being a negative aspect. People should always be fully in control of themselves at things like that when health, safety and consent is concerned. Overall this is an enjoyably sweet read, both men with endearing qualities and I found myself smiling quite a lot throughout. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Jacqueline Grey is a new to me author. From what I see on the Goodreads author profile, she mainly writes BDSM stories and currently has 8 books listed.
Harold, freelance computer programmer, lonesome, might be a puppy master if given the right set of circumstances
Taylor, assistant photographer, puppy looking for a master
The book starts out with the two main characters meeting on a plane. There is an instant attraction between them. At the end of the flight they each go their separate ways never figuring on meeting again, until they do. You'll have to suspend some disbelief, this is a work of fiction after all.
Is this book going to be part of a series? There was a bit of a mystery about James and Damian and what their prior jobs were. Also James' and Ezra's backstory would be a nice edition to the series. And what about Liam and Damian??? I have so many questions, and no answers.
Age gap (10 yrs), puppy play, communication issues, medium heat
Very sweet story about Taylor the pup and Harold the vanilla guy finding his kinky side.
I liked how easy going Harold was with everything kink wise, he got a bit insecure about Taylor's previous play partners but other than that he was very laid back. He had nervous moments which felt very natural since he was diving in to unknown territory, but he was a good Master for Taylor.
Taylor was sweet and happy in general, perfect personality for a pup who knew what he wanted and he went for the person he had set his sight on.
There's the communication drama which is the main thing in the book. I felt things were missing, we never get the meeting between Taylor and Harold's sister. Where is Taylor's family. Will there be another book where we get a collaring and some more play.
Also there was some hinting around other characters, which either was done because it was easy or because there will be books about them.
I enjoyed the story, I would have enjoyed it more if it didn't leave me with questions.
I enjoyed this book even more than I thought I would. The way that Jacqueline Grey has written Harold, the newby to all of this type of play is particularly good as his interactions with Taylor come across as very natural even as he is agonizing internally about wether he is doing things right. It is also great to read a book in which the sub/pup Taylor is the one with more experience and who ends up driving the relationship between the two men more than Harold. For a book about a relationship that has such a short timeline it could have ended up seeming totally unrealistic but the way that it has been written is very clever in using things like Taylor’s lease ending to make things happen more realistically. The internal dialogue that we “hear” also helps the story in many ways especially with the how well the “dog” interactions go and the short timeline aspect. I would have no trouble recommending this book to anyone who likes reading books about this particular topic.
Won't You Be My Master is a light, sweet, age gap, puppy play story about Taylor and Harold. Though these two first met on an airplane, it's their second meeting that really counted. Harold is such a kind soul and is willing to help Taylor in any way he can. Even if it's giving Taylor a temporary place to stay and learning how to be a good master for him. I really enjoyed this book. It drew me in from the beginning and I didn't want it to end. Harold and Taylor were just the person the other needed even if they didn't know it at the time. These two were almost too sweet to each other and almost missed out on their happiness together. I loved Harold and Taylor together and would love more of their story. This is a new to me author and I will definitely be reading more of their work. If you enjoy sweet puppy play you don't want to miss this book. This is a book I will enjoy again and again. Definitely recommend. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
This was a sweet meet-cute with a touch of light angst and a whole lot of personal growth Definitely ticked all the boxes
The relationship between Harold and Taylor began as instant attraction and then just evolved naturally to a more master/pup. The chemistry was insta - The emotional side though took some time - A bit of testing the waters - both a little unsure and fearful of rejection It wasn't a push away pull you back (thank goodness) Overall a sweet start (I say that because I want more) to a series
Yes...Harold had no idea what he was doing but he was a natural Yes...Taylor needed someone to bring him to heel before he found himself waking in something besides an empty box Not everything fell in the safe category (but it is fiction and there were no claims that this was a how-to guide)
I liked how Harold (also love this name) and Taylor met. Perfect meet-cute. I do like a couple who meet on a plane.
It just went a bit downhill from there for me.
I found it really problematic that Harold finds Taylor on the sidewalk, passed out in a box in nothing but a dog mask and g-string. Who lets someone get that drunk, especially at a kink party? I'm quite a novice to this, but I would have thought that strict rules would be in place surrounding consent and alcohol.
The novel then proceeds to be pages worth of miscommunication until they finally do talk right at the end of the book.
I could never really invest in them as a couple. I didn't fully like the pup play, but everyone has their kink and I do like it when couples meet and find ways to explore new things etc, but it just didn't win me over.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I loved this book; I know there are people that will say it was all wrong when it comes to some of the puppy play kink and that's probably true but who cares! It's not a 'how to guide'!!
It's cute, and blanket cuddly, hair petting, get down boy, dog toy, snuffly, warm bath, s3ggy times, that's your cushion, good boy wearing a thong, fantastic reading and I didn't want it to end. I could easily read about this couple for another book or two.
I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this book. I loved it and read it in one sitting.
I totally recommend this book, even if puppy play isn't your kink xx
I received a copy of this book via the Gay Romance Reviews and provide my honest review voluntarily
I found this to mostly be sweet and somewhat over the top in typical rom-com fashion with myriad “coincidences” piling up to set the stage. Harold and Taylor just meshed, right from the start, with Taylor easing the loneliness Harold accepted as normal without doing anything to change it. The development of the master and pup relationship between Harold and Taylor felt largely natural, with the progression branching off Harold treating Taylor much like he would any real dog. Unfortunately, they also hit one of my irritation buttons with their lack of communication which bothers me even more in a kink centric relationship. Still, I enjoyed reading this story just for the sweetness factor.
Overall this was a cute story. I liked the initial meeting and both Harold and Taylor are very easy to root for. It was a little slow moving and better communication would have made their relationship seem a bit more real and meaningful. Taylor is a super sweet puppy and Harold is also very kind which I appreciated. I especially liked Harold’s willingness to try to be the master his puppy needs even though this was all new to him. Cute and sweet story, likable main characters with excellent chemistry, and some intriguing side charters to help keep the story engaging. A fun and enjoyable read.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I read this a 2.3 star overall. There were moments of adorable banter, heart warming care giving, and flashes of good communication that I really enjoyed. I was disappointed that the first scene was not the exact premise depicted on the back of the book. I was also really bothered by their complete lack of communication in certain areas. If you can't talk to your partner about what you want, it means you don't trust them. That made it hard to root for their romance. Especially because they seemed to be able to talk to literally everyone else about what they wanted. I appreciate no/low angst, but lack of communication isn't that drama that it's often used as.
This book is a fluffy sweet pup romance, and you will need to go with it and not use brain power. Cos if you do it may spoil your enjoyment of what is a very sweet book. It is filled with fun Taylor and Harold were cute but would not win any awards for communication! The introduction of Taylor’s pup and Harold’s acceptance was lovely to read. Overall a nice book, there are enough ideas and unused subjects that if the author wished to explore the pair’s relationship further I would probably read it.
I loved this book! A sweet story about Taylor and Harold, two men who meet on an airplane and again on the street. Taylor likes being a pup sometimes and Harold is new to the whole idea. The journey the two take to their happily ever after is filled with love, longing, a bit of hesitation and a few wonderful friends. Neither wants their time together to end, and when they finally get the nerve to have the conversation, they find they have both been on the same page all along.
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
This is the story of Harold and Taylor. Please read the trigger warnings. I found this story quite entertaining. If you are looking for an insta-love story that is cute and sweet, then this one is for you. I liked how willingly open and trusting they were with each other. Great characters that makes the story funny and sweet, even if a little kinky. Definitely recommended.
I received this book as an Arc and I am happily reviewing it voluntarily.
This is a cute story with lots of good feels and a little angst. The author makes the book fun and you can't help but laugh at times at Taylor who is a fun loving character. Harold is more reserved, older , lonely, but that does not make him any less loveable. What starts out as a friendship blossoms into a high heat romance with an happily ever after. This is a standalone, but once you read this you will want to read more by this author. I received a free copy for an honest review.
super sweet & all the romantic comedy you could want
Super sweet read. I adore this puppy and his unknowing master. I’m soooo curious how this pup ends up in a box, but I really did enjoy this read. Super sweet with all the cliche but fun run ins with the two MCs. These two have to learn how to navigate roomies and romance with pup play but they figure it out and I enjoy their journey.
I've never read this author before and so glad I found them! This was a super cute pup story with a brand new to kink Master. I could have used some more pup play though....bring on that tail! It was also lacking on communication b/w the 2MC's so you get that low angst because no one wants to go first. But still super cute....not sure why Taylor and Liam can't still be friends though.
Harold and Taylor unexpectedly meet again a little after they were plane seat neighbors and the attraction between the two is still there. I loved how open Harold was to the pup play and how natural he was with being a master. I liked how Taylor fit into Harold’s life and helped shake some things up a bit. They were very good together.
