A new member of the Wylder clan, this one brings the reader deep into life in the latter half of the 19th century. A young woman takes the train into the frontier and meets a cowboy. Once more, this could be the start of a joke but it's the basis of this plot.

The character of Emily is another strong and forthright female that Bettis creates with aplomb. She is no wallflower and can mentally and verbally take care of herself, for the most part. Had she been able to use a six gun then she would have been a one-woman force.

Morgan is not a white knight or a black knight...more of a half and half. It is hard to tell from the get-go whether he is all good or just partially good. The big bad in the book is a well created character. It was not past a few pages where most readers will develop an intense dislike for him.

The one issue I had with the book was the serious concentration on where Emily's brother was for the first part but then it became a secondary issue. A stronger explanation of exactly what happened would have made this a more enjoyable read.

Fans of the Wylder West series will enjoy this book. Fans of Barbara Bettis will want to get this book. A good addition to an excellent western romance series. A great book to gift to the fans of wild west reading and viewing.

Emily Martin heads to Wylder, Wyoming to visit her brother, David, the owner of the local weekly newspaper. While on the train, she meets a cowboy that she can’t stop thinking about or running into once she gets to town. Since David had unexpectedly left and closed the paper, she’s determined to reopen the business and finds help—and trouble—along the way.
Morgan Dodd’s new job at a prosperous ranch has left him uneasy. As he gets to know the townsfolk and especially the pretty newspaper woman, he and Emily wind up in the middle of a mysterious cattle theft and land grab.
I haven’t read a historical western in a long time, so this was a nice change of pace. Emily is open-minded and pragmatic, if not a little naïve, and Morgan lives in a world of gray. They come from different backgrounds but fit well together.
The secondary characters were great, especially Cissy (the bakery owner) and Tommy (the livery boy). I would’ve liked to have met Emily’s brother, David, and learn more about his relationship with Ruby (a social club/saloon girl), but that wasn’t meant to be. Hopefully, Ms. Bettis plans to write another story featuring them. I’d love to read it!
I enjoyed Ms. Bettis’s voice and writing style. The pacing flowed well and kept my attention. This is a fun book full of historical facts about railroads, newspaper printing, cattle herding, frontier living, and more. Lovers of cowboy and western romances should enjoy it.

A stellar historical romance with lots of interesting historical facts, which are filtered in organically and aren’t ‘in your face’ or unnecessary. I’ve read quite a few stories in the Wylder series, and it was fun revisiting some of the characters. The author’s writing style is engaging and vivid. I loved sexy gunman, Morgan, and Emily was a great love interest for him. Compelling and passionate, with a richly detailed setting, this story will not disappoint!

This is a charming story. The heartwarming chemistry between Morgan and Emily is wonderfully written. Their slow but steady romance has you rooting for this couple to get their happy-ever-after. The setting is pictured very well. A secondary cast adds to the enjoyment of the story. This historical western even has a bit of mystery tied into the storyline, making it an interesting page-turner. The plot includes the liberation of women voting and how it’s received in a small town. This is a great book to spend an afternoon reading on the sofa. Reviewed for Still Moments Magazine.

Wyoming Territory
Emily Martin is forced to be a newspaper editor when she arrives in Wylder and discovers her brother has vanished. And then there’s Morgan Dodd, the taciturn man who arrived on the same train. Why can’t she stop thinking of him?
Ms. Bettis paints an intriguing picture of a frontier town and the various inhabitants. Careful, you might pick up a historical fact or two during this unusual courtship.

I loved this story of Emily, a socialite who comes west to visit her newspaper editor brother, only to find him mysteriously gone. She meets an intriguing cowboy on the train that she keeps running into in town, and each time, she is more flustered-- and attracted to him. The feeling is mutual, but Morgan Dodd has sworn to avoid women, intent on finishing the job he was hired to do as a gunman.

Unethical land transactions by corrupt politicians lead to trouble for both Emily and Dodd, and their attraction blooms into love in the most delightful way as they join forces against the unsavory characters in the frontier town of Wylder, Wyomiing.

A great romance, mystery, and western all in one!

After breaking her engagement, Emily Martin heads to Wylder, Wyoming to visit her brother David, who owns the local newspaper. But David isn’t there when she arrives and the business is in shambles. Emily refuses to back down and is determined to get the paper back up and running for her brother until he returns. But she is a city girl and not used to the rough way of life in Wylder. She can’t even make her own tea!

Morgan Dodd’s new job and his new boss make him uneasy, but he is honor bound to do what he was hired to do. But he’ll do it his way. Especially when he meets the pretty newspaper woman, Emily. He and Emily end up ensnared in a nasty cattle rustling/land grabbing conflict that puts them both in danger.

This is a great addition to the Wylder series of stories. The secondary characters are almost as good as the main ones and the story reads well. This is a great historical with lots of interesting notes about frontier towns, voting rights, newspapers, and more and told in such as way as to not be boring. A really good Western romance.

Recommended.

A Grand Read

Barbara Bettis writes a romantic western tale with Last Stop, Wylder. I haven't read anything by this author before, and what a hidden gem. I enjoyed it so much that I have now followed the author and look for more books to read. The reader is introduced to Emily, who has just moved to Wyoming to meet up with her brother, who runs the local newspaper. However, he is out on a story, so she decides this is just what she needs to move forward, especially after ending her engagement. So, she decides to start a new life, and help her brother out by running the paper. However, a stranger is there to do a job, get rid of the paper. Morgan is the name he goes by for now, and is a hired hitman, set out to destroy Emily and the paper. But, something happens, and it seems like dangerous chemistry between Morgan and Emily. his author brings the story to life. The characters are so real, it's like being with them within the story. The chemistry is there and not forced, but so is the tension of what could or could not happen next. A very unpredictable story, my favorite kind! Morgan is intrigued and attracted to Emily and her tenaciousness, but that may not be enough for the couple, especially if they want to stay alive. Last Stop, Wylder is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. Emily Martin doesn't do anything timidly. When she arrives in Wylder to find her brother gone and his newspaper office in shambles, she decides to publish his weekly herself. She doesn't know anything about living in the West but finds willing teachers in the local townspeople and the ruggedly handsome gunman Morgan Dodd. The author transports you into the frontier newspaper business, the infancy of women's suffrage, and the sometimes unsavory side of the westward expansion. I loved every minute of the story. And, if I were a single woman, I'd agree with Emily--Morgan Dodd could keep his boots under my bed any time! This book is a wonderful departure from Ms. Bettis' usual setting and exquisitely well done. I hope this won't be her last trip to Wylder!

What a wonderful Western romance! From the moment I stepped into the pages of this story, Ms. Bettis took me on an epic journey with Gunman Morgan Dodd, and Emily Martin. I experienced the gritty dust of Emily’s travels to the town of Wylder, and the biting cold Morgan endured on his journey. The characters’ emotions tugged at my heart. There’s plenty of twists and turns in the story, and a mystery to boot! Her writing is fabulous, and I learned a lot about newspaper printing. I hope Ms. Bettis takes me back to Wylder with another story. Well done!

On the way, she briefly meets sexy cowboy Morgan Dodd and can’t stop thinking about him. When the train arrives in Wylder, Emily soon discovers her brother isn’t in town, and no one knows his whereabouts. Quick to make inquiries, she keeps running into Morgan.
