This is the story of the Rosebud Lakota of South Dakota. The information was collected and interpreted by outsiders as a study of the culture and living conditions of these Native Americans during the 1970's. As such, a reader should keep in mind that the writer is only able to tell us what was shared with her, and it will be as incomplete as any cultural description not told by a community member him/herself. Nonetheless it is a book written with respect for the lives of the community members and a glimpse into the way their lives play out on the Rosebud Reservation. It is obviously dated information, and it would be interesting to learn if and how the lives of the Lakota have changed in the ensuing years, because their culture is a valuable part of what makes up the United States.
