MY RATING 3.5 STARS

Love the cover!! New to me author..

Enjoyed the storyline but damn this needs major editing, so many errors, words missing to finish off a sentence, spelling errors, made it hard reading because you had to second guess words. If this was an arc copy we ignore these type of errors but this was a finished product.

But other than that I did finish it and liked the story well enough to try the next book, here’s hoping that’s better🤞

Self note
Love triangle.

Spoiler how it ends

She ends up with H1 (because H2 left) in book 2, but H1 dies 5yrs later, so h ends up with H2 when he came back. I think the h was pregg with H2’s baby when H2 left.

Not for me.

Until Her by Carmen Rosales
First off, how beautiful is that cover? I’m a sucker for a beautiful cover, and the book definitely lived up to its cover. This was my first time reading anything by this author, and definitely will not be the last. The story was so well written, I didn’t want to put it down. And it just got better and better as the book progressed. It was fast-paced, emotional, and very engaging. I look forward to the next book in the series. I recommend.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Woah, I did not expect the book to go that way! I'm impressed that Carmen had the courage to go there and explore that. This book got better as it continued with the plot twist. I was thinking to myself, the endgame is who I think it is, right? LOL

The end of the book brought tears to my eyes.

I don't want to spoil too much by giving the plot away, but I will say that the book starts with 17-year-old Aura moving into this rich family's house after the death of her parents in a car crash. She is to live in their house and be their housekeeper, while they pay for her to attend an expensive private school with their son. Aura and the son, Kalum, are attracted to each other. Kalum is a hot asshole.

The majority of the book takes place in high school so you have the fun high school drama of who likes who, the mean girls, the cliches--though this book took the popular kids to the clichéd stereotype degree that wasn't present in my high school experience.

I did feel like this book had just a little too many guys interested in Aura.
This book could have used good proofreading. Maybe it had one after the book was released as an ARC; I'm not sure, but there was a mistake on every 3 pages or more. Aura also referred to the OW as a "wench", which is not something girls of this century say.

Having said that, I'm looking forward to the conclusion of this duet!

I pick up this book on a whim and I'm glad I did enjoy reading this. It's the classic opposite-attracts with our FMC Aura, being an orphan and poor and becoming the family's new housekeeper in the richest part of town. And the MC Kalum is the son of the said rich family.

I like the banter, and tension between the main characters. They both know that they've come from two different life statuses, nonetheless, they still fell in love with each other.

Though I have a minimal note, especially the last 20% of the book, ngl I don't necessarily agree with how things work out in regards to the plot and story arc. Yet I understand this is part one of the duet but I just wished it was more innovative and not sort of derivative.

Overall I still like the story, and will still read the conclusion. I'm interested to see how the narrative will progress after that ending 🖤.

Bully and enemies to lovers tropes? Well,I am sold and this book surprised me in a good way!
I felt for Aura and how her life turned upside down.
If you love the tropes I mentioned you need to read this book.
The writing was wonderful and the steam!
Just wow. I need more.

Too many errors almost on every page, such as spelling, grammar and words missing. I found Kallum’s inner musings and reasoning all over the place. His character wasn’t well developed. Aura was a bit better but she was wishy washy too. Didn’t realise it was a love triangle and didn’t like where the story went in the last part. Will not be reading part 2. My care factor is zero on what happens when Aura and Kallum meet again.

4.0 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
2.5 - 🌶️🌶️

𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬
- Elite high school
- Bully romance
- Enemies to lovers
- Friends to lovers

This was my first high school romance, and I loved every bit of it. From beginning to end it was full of surprises, love, and heartbreak.
(The second book is a time jump (5 years) and even better than the first)

After Aura lost both of her parents in a car accident, a few months away from her 18th birthday, is sent to live and work at the St. Claire family’s house. The arrangement is for them to be her guardians and work for them, after her birthday she will remain as their housekeeper. Shortly after arriving at the St. Claire house, she meets Kalum St. Claire. He’s hot, popular, and the school’s football star. He meets Aura, and is immediately awful to her.

Throughout the book, we get tossed around by Aura and Kalum as they sort out their feelings for each other. They know they are falling in love, but Kalum has a hard time showing it until we get to the halfway point. So there is lots of push and pull until then. Then we reach more complications in their relationship.

When Kalum’s parents discover their relationship, they send Aura away. But then she finds herself staying with her friends brother, Lane. What began as a friendship between the two, turns into love and bliss. Until we get thrown off the love train, again, and back into loss and heartbreak…

Have your tissues ready, because if you’re like me, you will need them!

𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬
“Guys like Kalum St. Claire are never to be trusted with your heart and the worst part of it is, I know deep down he would take mine and never give it back.”

“You know how the saying goes, fuck over a good girl and it’s the bitch you’re left with.”

“This is where we begin. This is where I vow to make her mine. And never let her go.”

“One taste of Aura is powerful. Something I wasn’t ready for. An electric current like the ocean that quickly pulls you in and takes over.”

“Kalum has the power to make me melt with a touch and with soft words, he can erase the hurtful words he has ever said like a balm that heals a gaping wound.”

3.75- Bully romance-Rich High school elite

This was a fast past romance and my first by this author.

Hero- Kulum St. Claire-Senior/Football hero/bully/girls want to be with him.

Heroine-Aura Rayne-17 yr old loses both her parents and instead of going into Foster care, Kalums parents take her in, until she graduates.

Overall: I did love this storyline and even go a little teary eyed.

Awful. The grammar, the story, the framework, the literal writing was horrendous. Just awful. It reads like a 12 year old trying to write smutty fanfiction

WOW! That was an emotional story that was fast-paced, heart wrenching and left me in tears at the end. The story takes a few unexpected twisted turns, which has left me with some unanswered questions, which I hope will cleared up in book 2 of this duet.

I was captivated with Aura right from the start and my heart continued to break for her over and over again. But that girl is a survivor, and she’s strong and resilient with a heart of gold. But so many unfortunate tragedies befall her young life, which broke my heart. I just wanted her to be happy and get her well deserved happy ever after.

This was a really great story with fantastic characters (some you love, some you hate and some that may not be able to redeem themselves), and with a storyline that is filled with emotional turmoil, angst, drama, passion, love and heartbreak. The end shocked me quite a bit because I wasn’t ready for it.

I can’t wait to read the rest of Aura’s story!

Emotionally Captivating

If this isn’t a book hangover I’m feeling after reading this, nothing is. It was wrought with so much emotion and angst that I was up until the early morning hours reading because I couldn’t put it down. It was about a young woman who loses everything over and over but still comes out strong after everything and everyone has put her through. It speaks of love and being strong when you need to be. Even though we don’t want to admit it, it also tells of a true divide between the have and the have nots.

This book ends in a heartbreaking moment and a surprise that leads into Until Now that follows Until Her. Even though this is a first time read from this author I know I will be a follower from her on out.

3.5 stars.

This was a good book. I liked the story. I felt for Aura. I definitely did not see the ending coming. I’m interested to see where this story goes.

At times the timelines were off. For instance Aura is laying in bed after just waking up and is going to the Fair at 5pm but the next thing she says is she has to get up or she’ll be late? I know this is an ARC but there were so many spelling errors, and missed words. It made me want to stop reading. But I’m glad I stuck with it.

Literally read both books within a day. I can’t help but have so much sympathy for Aura. Not only losing her parents at such a fragile age but then to not have a choice on where she goes next. Kalum is such a jerk! But I love the whole enemies to lovers thing they got going on.
And when Lane enters the picture, oh my gods the story sends you on a rollercoaster of emotions! You have to read this.

⚠️Spoilers here!⚠️

Hang on a damn minute. I need to get my sobbing under control so I can write this dang review. Jesus.

This book was so good. It wasn’t a typical bully romance. Aura had quite a few guys wanted her and there was only her POV and Kalums POV so we naturally thought they would end up together. Well nope.

Aura lost her parents in a car accident and was taken in by a wealthy family to work as a maid to help assist the head maid that needed extra help. She meets the family’s son, Kalum. He’s a fucking dick but secretly he’s got a huge boner for her and doesn’t want anyone to know.

There was Kalums friend, Cason who was really nice to her. He didn’t join in on their bullying or shit talking, he even went and added $500 to her lunch account so she didn’t have to worry about the pricey lunch. Well I’m sure other readers thought something would’ve happened there but that little flame didn’t last long since she wasn’t interested in him.

Kalum slowly wiggled his way into her life and they eventually put their hatred for each other to the side and let their attraction grow. But, that too didn’t last long even though it did hurt for her to walk away from Kalum since she was falling in love with him, she just knew it was the best decision for her at that moment.

Then there is Lane Turner. Which is Auras friend Exies older brother. Throughout the book when Lane was involved you just get that there’s something brewing there but you’re unsure why he’s brought up in the story in the first place when she was falling for Kalum but Carmen threw in a little twist there and it was unexpected but I was all for it!

I’m glad it was Lane. Yes, she was falling in love with Kalum but I understood why she didn’t feel right to take the money his parents gave her to leave and start a new life and also why she chose to leave behind whatever was happening with Kalum. She felt strongly that it wouldn’t work because they came from different backgrounds. She just wanted to be loved and Kalum was too worried about what everyone else would think.

Lane made me mad when he up and left when she told him her bun in the oven news but he redeemed himself. I wish I could type more on this review but I’m too anxious and I’m still crying over Lane’s letter to Aura. Ugh.

You did good Carmen, got me sobbing like a baby lol.

Dnf at 38.5%.

The good:
-pretty cover

The weird:
-fmcs name is aura and all I can think of is the pre-migraine attack stage where I can't see and everything else goes to hell.
(the name is nice but, as a migraine sufferer that's all I can think of)

The bad:
-The writing. It was so bad it made me cry.
Examples

My hair is sticking to the back of my neck, and I pull the long tresses and smell. I love for my hair to smell like shampoo or body spray but right now it smells like outside.
Can someone please tell me what the outside smells like? All I know is that you walked 3 miles and that the love interest sped past you hoping to get flashed. (read:get a glimpse of her blessed ass)

Most kids my age when they graduate and make a mistake that lands back home, they usually count with their parents.
The best way to describe this is keyboard suggestion smash (courtesy of ash)

My eyes widen and my head tilts up when I see it’s the guy with the brown eyes I was so rude to earlier not letting him tell me his name
The author needs to learn punctuation. Please. Or even just use short sentences (again, courtesy of ash)

When the blonde that he was all over him in the hallway sits next to him practically on his lap, he doesn’t look my way.
I can't express how blank my mind was trying figure this out. I didn't succeed.

other bad stuff:
-We finally get the love interest pov. That's nice because I enjoy dual pov. Except that he literally sexualizes aura the whole time by talking about her breasts testing the limits of the shirt, the way her skirt fits her waist and backside, the way she is a special siren unaware of the power she has, and the way guy have to adjust themselves when she walks into the room.😐
-it has the stereotypical rich privileged snobs and high school bullies. Basically drama, which I can't deal with today. Maybe next time when it's actually readable (paper princess was)

Overall
The main character, aura lost her parents and I really wanted to care about her grief, see her grow and fall in love. Unfortunately, the other lead (his name is Kalum btw) was a douche. He might change as the book progess or maybe Aura doesn't actually end up with him. Idk, where I stopped, the book started giving slight RH vibes.
Regardless, I'm not sticking around for it. ✌️

Premise is as good

The premise for the story was good albeit predictable and I would have given it more stars were it’s execution more thought out. My pet peeve were that sometimes a character made a lot of assumptions that would then be confirmed right after. It just didn’t make sense to me. Also, why wouldn’t Kalum reach out to Aura when she’s like 30 mins away. Why did Aira leave that same night despite it being such a dangerous time of the night? And then suddenly she’s making heartfelt declarations to someone else that sounds INSANE. And then 2 months later, really???! And let’s not forget how Lane disappeared. I’m sure it’ll be explained in book 2 but I doubt it’d be satisfactory. And like why is Kalum the youngest CEO at 18? No training whatsoever? And saying “I’ll be a ruthless CEO”? I love those tropes but they have to be combined and executed right. I’m clearly passionate about the book’s faults, but I appreciate the author attempting to write this. Think Vicious but not quite. Oh and let’s not talk about how “anyone would kill for the secrets in this journal”. Sorry, sorry. Didn’t mean to get enraged again.

All that being said, I would love to be a beta reader for this author and if not, wish for her to find ones that will help her deepen her writing and not just go on the surface.

Amazing read - with some issues

Overall this was an amazing read! There were unexpected turns in the story line, which I loved. The h in this book is mind blowing. Even having lost her family and friends she remains strong and does not let anyone treat her like a door mat. The H of the book has his heart in the right place but acts like a jerk most of the time, which was annoying at the beginning, but changes later. The story jumps fiver years ahead in the end, which I was happy to see, but I am hoping there will be some insights to it in the book 2.

The main issues I have are:
- This book was not proof read properly. There are so many commas missing, so had to read some of the sentences again to make sense of it. Also, there are several typos, like ‘he n his’ changed to ‘she n her’ in the H’s point of view chapter etc

(MILD SPOILERS)

- It felt like a couple chapters were missing, after the h is sent away and she finds happiness else where. Suddenly, she agrees to follow the H2 everywhere, on the same night she was sent away! That was odd and unbelievable. Also, 2 months later there’s a mention of her first kiss with H2, which never happened in the book, I turned back pages and looked for it again!
- Theres a big plot hole of why H2 was gone for a few months in between, which I am hoping is covered in the book 2.

Awkward all around

The dialogue in this book is super awkward. Everyone talks like a CW robot. Aura loses her parents and moves into a rich household and becomes their maid until she turns 18. They have a son who is also her age, and he is irritated his mom has taken on another charity case. Aura has a boyfriend named Marcus, who hasn't called her. Aura breaks up with Marcus and starts a relationship with the son. I can't even recall his name. They break up awkwardly, and she is essentially kicked out of the house by his parents. She moves in with a mechanic she met and gets pregnant. He disappears, and she gets a job as a waitress. The plot is all over the place. I was getting whiplash. Everything happens really quickly, and there are absolutely zero organic transitions from storyline to storyline. The intimate moments in the book are also awkward. They felt a bit lackluster all around. There wasn't any chemistry between characters. Everything was just awkward... plot, characters, world building, intimate scenes, interactions between characters, etc. I just couldn't get invested here. There is no way I could get through book 2.

I liked the storyline but basically that was it. The writing was bad with many errors, to the point where some things didn't make sense to me. Also, I don't like the love triangle, so if I knew that this book had one I wouldn't have read it.

Kalum was an asshole the whole time. He talked like he liked Aura since he first saw her, but to be honest that was kind of hard to believe since he was constantly rude and mean. He was always talking about her body, and this was annoying. I couldn't sympathize or connect with his character.

Aura was exhausting to deal with. I wanted to care that she lost her parents but she was annoying, too. I did like some of the things she said to Kalum, but overall she was naive and stupid. I didn't get why she went to stay with Lane and a second later she was pregnant.

Lane's character didn't make sense to me. He seemed nice, then acted like a jerk, then was nice again.

The last part was the worst for me. It felt rushed and didn't make sense. As I said before, if I knew it was a love triangle I wouldn't have read the book, since I don't like them. I won't be reading the next book.

I was left emotionally speechless! Aura gets a second chance after her life is turned upside down following her parents death. She's now going to the elite rich school across town and living with the most popular football player Kalum, as his maid. But things won't be smooth sailing if Kalum has anything to say about it. These two may act like they hated each other but you could feel the heat coming from the pages. These two fought their attraction because they came from different social circles and when things left Aura homeless fate had other plans. First off, Lane was my favorite from the beginning and I'm still not over him. I need more and I'm anxiously waiting to find out whats going o happen. So many questions left unanswered. Loved this book.

UNTIL HER by Carmen Rosales

Oh my goodness this book! When you read this book you can’t help but hurt for Aura yet love how freaking strong she is. I mean could life be so cruel and heartbreaking yet so darn beautiful. It can’t even describe what this author makes me feel as I read this amazing book. I won’t go into detail because you need to read this book for yourself. What I will say is that you will need some tissue as you read through Aura and Kalum’s journey. A journey that is both cruel and yet so heartbreakingly beautiful. This book was so much more than what I was expecting in all the right ways and I couldn’t recommend it enough. I am excited and eagerly waiting whats next. If there were more than five stars I definitely would be rating it way higher.

Carmen Rosales is such an underrated writer. This is not my first read from her, having read and LOVE her Prey series. I had this book in my To-Read list for quite some time but for some reason I kept pushing this back for other book. Silly me because THIS IS A MUST READ.

The plot twist got me spinning like a rollercoaster.

Even though it only took like a few chapters, the FEELS!!!!! At first, I was like 😡😡😡😡, then I was like 😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲 only for me to be 😭😭😭😭😭😭 at the end.

I was prepared for a surpise ending. I was already like "Yup, he's cool too. I guess this is for the better" only to be turned upside down by the last chapter and the cliffhanger.

I finished this entire book in a matter of a few hours AND I DID NOT REGRET BEING A TOTAL BUM FOR THIS!

I chose this because the cover is stunning. The writing needs editing. I did see other reviews with the same comments but I assumed they were arc’s and not the finished product. I was wrong, it reads like a rough draft. I started the second book and it also reads like a rough draft. This author could be really good with an editor.

Compelling story, if not entirely cliche but that’s just what book crack is made of so I did finish it. There were multiple love interests, and I didn’t think any of them were good for our fmc. She references her parents love multiple times and what she thinks love should be and these guys fumble over and over.
