Mabel Brown has always been her father’s favorite daughter. She was the son he’d never had. So when he finds that he’s dying, he makes arrangements for each of his three daughters to marry, but struggles to find a good, godly man for Mabel until he virtually falls into Harper’s lap.
Harper Jones has lived all his life as a trapper and mountain man near Fort Laramie. As half native Crow and half white man, he’s had a hard time fitting in with just about everyone. Gaining a wife is the furthest thing from his mind until Mr. Brown makes him an offer that’s hard to refuse.
To keep either of them from backing out of the arrangement after his death, Mr. Brown asks both of them to be married by proxy before they ever meet.
P. Creeden is the sweet romance and mystery pen name for USA Today Bestselling Author Pauline Creeden. Her stories feature down-to-earth characters who often feel like they are undeserving of love for one reason or another and are surprised when love finds them.
P. Creeden married her college sweetheart, who she also met at a horse farm. Together they raise a menagerie of animals and their one son, an avid reader, himself. Animals are the supporting characters of many of her stories, because they occupy her daily life on the farm, too. From dogs, cats, and goldfish to horses, chickens, and geckos—she believes life around pets is so much better, even if they are fictional.
I hate that Harper is judged because of his heritage, but if we are honest people are still judged by heritage, income and looks in today's world, which is heartbreakingly sad But Harper and Mabel are both such warm and loving people, content in their own company that you cannot help but love them. A lovely read on Kindle Unlimited.
This is a clean, sweet romance. Harper is going home from town when he comes across an injured man being buried by the snowstorm. He takes him to his cabin and nurses him back to health. The man says his health is falling and offers his daughter as a thank you and in the hopes that she'll be a helper to Harper in his lonely life. Mabel agrees since this man saved her Father's life. And it turns out he's the same man she saw last time she was at the Fort. Will they make a go of their marriage? is she too young? Is his life too hard on her?
This was such a sweet story. I loved it. Mable's father picked Harper to be her proxy groom after seeing what a good, godly man he was. Harper's father was a white man and his mother was Native American and Harper was afraid Mable would reject him. But, as their feelings for each other grow, he realizes the color of his skin doesn't matter to Mable. Read this lovely story to find out how they get to their HEA.
I love to read about mail order and proxy brides. However, after years of reading them you tend to know what the storyline will be. Not with "A Bride for Harper" by P. Creeden. I was surprised and pleased by this unique storyline.
I don't like reviews that tell you the story so I will just say that I believe that most readers of this genre will totally love this book as much I did. Enjoy!
Maybe this story can be summed up as father knows best. Knowing he wouldn't live long and wanting to provide for his daughters a father chose the best men he could find to be husbands. This is a sweet clean love story.
I enjoyed this book. What a different time, can you imagine a man feeling he owes the man who saved his life thinking "oh, my daughter would be a good payment". It is also hard to imagine a daughter agreeing to such an arrangement. I loved that Mabel's father was trying to be sure his daughters would be taken care of after he passed away. Mabel and Hunter both took their proxy marriage seriously and tried to honor Mabel's father. I'm glad that he went for character and not just financial consideration.
This is Book #23 in The Proxy Brides series and is the story of Mabel Brown and Harper Jones. As the story unfolds, you find yourself falling in love with the characters. Mabel's father is determined to find husbands for his three daughters before he dies, but he has a hard time finding one for Mabel as she is his favorite daughter. Harper is chosen as he had saved Mr Brown's life during a blizzard and he felt like he owed Harper something because of it. The couple are married by proxy but as the story progresses they find their HEA. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.
Touching story of God's love and faithfulness. Harper's a gentle giant and a Godfearing man he helps a man and that man wants him to marry his daughter. - Babs

Mabel’s father is trapped in a blizzard and rescued by Harper. As father of three daughters he needs good husbands for them. To thank Harper for saving his life he thinks one of his daughters will be a good wife. But Harper’s life isn’t easy, can he accept that offer? Can he make his proxy wife happy?
