Chapter one, and I already didn’t enjoy the FMC. The way Lizzie talked about British vs American makes it seem like we’re on two different planets! As if the UK doesn’t have ghosting and dating expectations?! And unfortunately, the comparisons continued throughout the book. Usually about “proper etiquette” between people or about situations. And every time, it took me out of the moment, leaving me to enjoy it less. I mean, she literally went out on a date with some random guy because it was the “right thing to do”! What?! However, I did enjoy her past walking into the dog spa she works at. You knew right away that they had a story worth figuring out! It’s been years since they’ve spoken. Rod was busy being famous all over the world, while she was in that tiny town in the mountains. Rod started stumbling over his words, and I enjoyed him instantly. Their reconnection is an instant connection, as if it was never gone. Because it wasn’t. Not that Lizzie would ever admit to that. She assumed that when he became famous, that canceled her out. His life no longer had space for her. Meanwhile, he literally got famous because that’s exactly how she had already made him feel. Even after they’ve reconnected, and he really tries to prove that he wants her in his life again, she continues with the same assumption. I knew his assistant (leach more like) was going to cause issues the moment we met her. But then she really didn’t? I mean, she could have, if Lizzie and Rod weren’t already too focused on the mile high mountain of assumptions and miscommunication between them! And when we finally find out why he never responded to her last postcard, I nearly screamed. Even now I want to yell about it! This read like a novella, but was over detailed. Like a…fluffed novella to make it full length. Honestly, if you take out the miscommunication and assumptions you’d have a really sweet novella! I'm so used to reading about dirty rockstars, living like gods, that this was a nice change of pace.
