Learning to Float is short collection of poems connected by adolescence, being lost in one's own head, sex, and loss. A weary journey of becoming who you are today while feeling untethered from those around you.
WHAT a poetry collection. Every poem resonated on some level and I absolutely adored the variation of content, layout and length.
The themes of love, loss and growing up can be cliche but none of these poems read to me as being overly cliche or overused. I truly will be coming back to this book and re-reading it.
The idea of 'learning to float' being the overarching theme of this collection of poetry is so apt - growing up is a tough time, but so is being an ageing adult!
I'm annoyed that I can't more succinctly talk about how much I loved this book. So so good.
A beautiful collection of poems about loss, struggling to see the beauty in life despite depression, and the empty space left in your life when someone you love is no longer there. I love the arrangement of lines and words in these poems and the poignancy of the voice and images.
I also loved the design of this book, with the balloons in the interior design mirroring the gorgeous cover.
