F-F-Fourth times the ch-charm!

The Rangers and Osay colonists have won the fight for control of their corner of Amir. But as the threat of invasion from nearby RUPAC special forces loom, Reach, Alexa, and Brody seek to make newfound neighbors into allies.

But friendship isn’t easy to come by, even on a planet as hostile to humans as Amir.

Even inside the Ranger-protected confines of the O-C, tensions boil over as Liana works to find a way to make Ranger, Osay, and RUPAC defectors coexist and save their hostility for what lays outside the colony’s growing walls.

I was a bit disappointed by this book. Normally with JN Chaney's books I expect the written equivalent of Die Hard: fun, fast moving, action packed, and exactly the kind of escape I sometimes want.

However, whereas I've devoured his prior books, this one had several slow spots. Really felt like it was a bit unpolished. Also, I'm worried Reach and Co are starting to jump the shark. I'll probably give the next one in the series a shot but I hope we get back to the fast moving pace of prior novels

Brody is getting old with the constant movie quotes - I think I'm with the rest of the group (in the book) that's tired of what was referred to as "a teenager on meth with power tools." Fortunately, he's not the only focus of the story. Introducing other elements with regard to the "upgrades" that Dr. Roman has done made things more interesting. And the way Jared Reach and Liana's characters continue to grow.

But I have to admit that this book did slow down a lot in spots. I have a feeling that unless it takes a full 90º turn, it might get old.

And the narration by RC Bray is always stellar.

Couldn’t finish - same issues as book 3 in the series. Way too many moving parts without enough character and plot development. Stuff just happens in the story and I lose interest and can’t keep track of everything.

Putting this one down.

The people on planet Amir just can't seem to calm down and work together on much of anything. And now they've got a Reclamation Team coming to exterminate everyone and burn the planet down. If you've followed the story so far, you know that the Ossay are the original colony expedition that came to settle on Amir with the expectation that other colony teams would eventually come and grow the initial group to a size that could become self-sustaining after a few generations. It didn't happen that way. The Boone got stuck in warp space and was there for over four hundred years. Most of the crew were in stasis so they didn't die-off. In fact, one in particular was given the time to become very well enhanced by Dr. Roman, the resident "mad scientist" of the colony expeditionary group. That person was Jared Reach, a inactive Marine, but now semi-active since everyone of the military Ranger colonist thought of his as one of their own. That was driven into their subconscious minds while they were in cryo-sleep just as Jared was enhanced in his.

Now Jared is one of the leaders of the American colony trying to merge the remnants of the original colonist with his mostly military colony survivors from the Boone. But, they have problems from the start. It seems that the Russo Chinese Pacific Alliance (RUPAC) attempted to colonize Amir at about the same time as the US did, but their colony also failed to establish a foothold. Their colonist were mostly military RUPAC soldiers who were initially abandon and became scavengers and a major threat to the Ossay community (original American colonist).

The Ossay were saved from the attacks by the RUPAC and the native wild life mostly by the efforts of one slight deranged robot named Brody. Even to this day, he still protects and defends the Ossay and all the American colonist. Sometimes he can become quite annoying and he has a habit of adding conversation where and when it's not needed. Still, he is a killing machine and with the RUPAC now more and more interested in Amir, Brody's skills have been very useful.

Still, this story is about Jared Reach's and the Ossay attempt to meet some of the other abandoned colonist on other parts of Amir and see if they can cooperate and even come together to fight against the coming RUPAC Reclamation Team. Already, advanced parties of "Ghost" recon teams have been arriving on Amir and are causing quite a lot of trouble for everyone. These "Ghost" operate just like that. They have super advanced camouflage equipment that allow the to move about almost like they were invisible. Their job is to disrupt the activities of any colonist on Amir, to make the colonist distrust one another and even to get the various colony factions to start fighting amongst themselves.

Reach and a team are going to make contact with a thought to be Russian mafia outfit that might be willing to trade with the Ossay and even fight with them when the Reclamation Team arrives. What he finds is promising, but then the Ghost team from the RUPAC starts causing all sorts of trouble.

This has a lot of different action in the story. Sometimes it's kind of hare to keep up with who's doing what. Still, the main characters are all the same from book to book and so far, we haven't lost anyone of them. Let's hope that trend continues, but it might not because the Reclamation Team is about ready to land and attack the planet. There's not a whole lot of assets for the Ossay to use against this team so it could well result in the end of everything.

I don't thing this is the end of the story, but I also don't see a book 5 in the works. Still, that's got to cover the landing of the RUPAC Reclamation Team and a huge final battle for the planet Amir.

Still living with RUPAC

Amir is a strange place where the enemy of Earth - RUPAC - still fights with them here. And the Wildlife is deadly too.

But the people from Earth? RUPAC aside, these folks are endearing. Even those who were conscripted RUPAC & are being kidnapped into working for RUPAC are what makes this book It's battles scenes are so riveting, plentiful & some days heartbreaking that I can't stop reading. Relationships are deep & loyalty is required in this new World so far from Earth.

I enjoyed this book as well as the others. Can't wait for the next batch of battles, mayhem & problems to be solved by Liana, Jared, Sherman, Bosa & crew. (Bb-b-brody, I totally miss you too.)

This series is a palette cleaner for me. It's almost all about high tech military combat and robots. There is very little character development and decent world building. This episode was especially heavy on the combat. There were times that I couldn't keep straight who was fighting what and which drone was doing what and which side it was on. I usually don't have that problem. And the ending felt abrupt. There's usually a party or something at the end to ease the tension, but nothing like that in this one. The narrator, RC Bray, was excellent as always. I don't know if I could even read this on kindle. It's like something is missing without the narrator. It was still a fun story though and I will read the 5th one.

I was reading the latest installment in Season 2 of the GE universe and there was a reference to Dr. Roman, so I figured I needed to catch up on this book which had been sitting in my to-read for a long time.

It must be said that whatever the KTF Part 1 reference was to, it wasn't in WG4. What was in there was generally good writing marred by too much smart-ass android(s) and not enough story progression. I do however feel compelled to read WG5 (which is now available since I sat on 4 for so long) in order to get whatever background it is I need to continue reading the main-sequence GE. I hope it's worth it.

Poor Editing - makes it difficult to follow at times

There were so many areas that confused me due to missing words, misspellings, and verbiage that gave descriptions of events as if they were being submitted to the appointed sitrep officer. Sometimes there was too much descriptions on the same subject-matter previously mentioned, but then would give too little in areas that needed it. If the characters weren’t so damn funny and likable, I probably wouldn’t move on to the next book. But they all just work so well together, they start to become people you want to hang out with. Brody, not so much. ;-)

I do think someone should edit the editor, I beg you!

Wayward Galaxy 4

Wayward Galaxy 4 is a must read. It will take an entire squad of J-J-J Matrix action to survive this encounter. I recommend that you read the prior 3 books for context and characters continuity. I really try to pace myself when reading these books, but each page is like eating your favorite Easter candy, mine being Robin's Eggs. I'll be waiting for the next Wayward adventure while I keep hiding the Robin's Eggs from the kids.

Great story, poor ending.

I have enjoyed all the stories in this series because the writers do an excellent job with the plot and character development. I give this last in the series because of the bad ending! This story is still solid as the previous stories but the ending is not what you expect from such excellent writers!

Warning ahead

Although this is basically action oriented the main thing coming through for me is just how centered around a few characters this is oh and if your an 80s/90s action fan then this is how many memories you can jog reading this. The story is quite good and this one was particularly engaging.

Science fiction

We all know can become science fact, this story shows all the bad and the good that can come from mankind's ingenuity. I hope this kind of situation does not play out on Earth or in space that this is not some future we might have, but the way things are going, I feel it could.

Excellent read.

These books just keep getting better. Camp Caswell and people are safe for now, but they know there is a real threat. They, again, try to in-list the help of some people whos main motivation is profit. Reach helps these Russian gypsies out and in the process gains a new allie for his people. Great story with characters you miss when not reading the books.

Wayward Galaxy 4

Another good read by JN Chaney and Jason Anspach! The characters like Brody bring smiles to most readers faces and the actions of the Rangers and the former Marine Jared Reach provided a riveting amount of non stop action.I’m looking forward for Book 5!

Amir as a civilization is growing and with it comes treaties to be built, built on the basis of commerce or a common foe. I like the way that the series is progressing and unlike the frequent action in earlier books of this series, we see a change in pace, but it gel wells with the book.

This one felt slow and I’ve struggled to complete it. It still has charm and it pushes the story forward (although less than I was expecting)… but it’s less interesting than the other books in the series.

I like all of these.

It’s written by Jason Anspach and JN Chaney. I love everything they do and this series is a perfect example of why. Great plot, great humor, and characters you love, what’s not to love in a sci-fi tale?
If you like Science Fiction, I recommend this.

Another great addition to the Wayward Galaxy story. I listened to the Audible version so as always, His Brayness did a great job narrating the story. Certainly not anything like deep literature but if you like military sci-fi this is the story for you.

NOW THATS BETTER... I'm hoping this is a sign of things to come, as this is a good step in the right direction. Less shooting, more intrigue. Less blinding battle and more sneaky suprises. More tech, more lands, more people, more more more...
