This received some raves ona teahcer's page over at Facebook so I grabbed a copy and while it refreshed me on some things I could do in the classroom, it didn't live up to the hype.
For a book about brain-friendly learning, it's a shame she didn't start with science and biology, showing how each of her steps enhanced the brain.
It's filled with bullet points and way too many exclamation points. The bullet points were long lists of things we could do for whatever point was being made, but in many cases, some context was required. What works in elementary school certainly doesn't work in high school. Most of us don't have classrooms big enough to accommodate many of her tips, but she doesn't suggest how to make smaller spaces work. Nor does she differentiate what can be accomplished in my 44-minute class versus a 90-minute block.
There's some good refresher material here, but too much is left unexplained.
The book needed a serious copy editor and proofreader, as well as a book designer who would design it as a book, not as a printed blog. Illustrations would certainly have been welcome.
