It's called the Blackout--the initial trauma when the beast within awakens for the first time. Dylan Landau experienced it six months ago when he transformed into a werewolf. Since then, he has wandered the streets of Miami alone, trying to hide his wolf form...until the night he sees cop Dana Delmonico undergo her own painful change. Now Dylan can't stop thinking about Dana--and she can't fight her attraction to Dylan. Because when both their inner beasts are aroused, there can be no stopping them...

Okay - first of all, it's a novella. Part of the Nocturne "Bites" series that sometimes introduces a new series (I got this from the Silhouette site = the publisher). So it's a short very quick read. And I have to tell you - I wanted more.
I really liked this story. Why? Because it's a "believable" werewolf tale. By that, I mean that it's set in present day Miami, it's a female police officer and a deputy District Attorney meeting under strange circumstance, which turns out to be the female officer going to shift for the first time into a werewolf - but it's still kind of believable. No big werewolf fuss, or odd Xena-ish world. Just the two people having a random meeting, a very bad day, and then seeing where that relationship goes.
BLACKOUT is very fast-paced and engrossing. Truly, I wanted more of this story, and not in a negative way at all. I realize a short story is just that - a story of fewer words than a full book, but I wanted to know more about these people - I wanted more pages - which to me equals success in whatever length of story the author and publisher take.
In addition, and a head's up - I found the author's web site and saw that both Blackout and her second novella, Wolf Bait, are part of a 5 book series, so I'm happy that this story might continue.
A quick read in the Silhouette Nocture Bites series that introduces a new paranormal series revolving around werewolves in the city of Miami. The story starts out full of action - a man about to shift into a werewolf, on the streets, trying to find cover before he becomes a monster. He witnesses a cop car weaving erratically, and then the young female cop jump out of the cruiser, strip off her clothers, and start shifting painfully.
I enjoyed this book immensely, and look forward to more in the series. I was particulary happy that this shifter series has a slightly different take on the werewolves - the mutation is dangerous, can kill you, and that the wereswolves are viewed as monsters, not some romanticized, hairy Alpha male.
I really enjoyed this novella that was included as a bonus story in "Red Wolf", it was great to get more of an insight into what happens during the blackout and change from human to wolf. I had already met Dylan and Dana's Characters from reading "Half Wolf" a few months ago which was the first book I had read of Linda Thomas-Sundstrom and really enjoyed. Dylan's character is so nice and I very much enjoyed him being in "Half Wolf" in which he added a lot to the storyline so it was great to go back and read how Dylan and Dana met and how Dana became a wolf. This is a fantastic series of books by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom which I am loving reading my way through and would highly recommend this series or any other of Linda's books!
I was drawn into the short story about Dylan and Dana. It brings us to a large metro city like Miami where all creatures of the night could exist. She jumps us quickly into the story of Dylan trying to keep the locals from finding out he is a werewolf while he comes across a female cop who is exhibiting her first change.
Dylan has been in new shoes and he is the perfect person/were to help her. Only, there is something more between the two of them that quickly presents itself. This short novella would be a great full read, with much more story building up to and after their meeting and finding who did this to Dana. I look forward to reading more from Linda Thomas-Sundstrom!
Been awhile since I have read a nocturne so was eager to get into this one. They were the line that sealed it with loving paranormal back in the day when they first came out. Anyways it was interesting reading-tracking Dylan while he then encounters Dana going through something unusual. He tries to hide who he is but instinct overcomes that. These two will have quite the evening with them connecting on even a different level then most. This is a quick read with loving every step of the way thanks to the writing that had me right from the beginning. Perfect ending with who really went down.
I absolutely loved this story!! One of my favorites in the Wolf Moon series!! I loved the main character Dana!! She is fantastic and by far one of my favorite, all-time heroines. This series is fantastic and I really enjoy the author's take on werewolves.
This novella is a great start to an amazing series. I sped through it, caught up in the story from beginning to end. I did not even consider putting it down for one second. The tense interaction between Dylan & Dana had me wanting more. A story of the wolf change that actually held my interest!
I’m a reader who needs, or is often compelled to go back to the beginning of any series. When I don’t or I accidentally read something in the middle I know that I’m missing subtle nuances, tidbits of information that will enhance my reading enjoyment by knowing the “whole story”. So when the current release of the Wolf Moons series caught my eye I made the decision to go back, to understand this world better – and as always, I’m very glad that I did.
Blackout has such an otherworldly feel to it that I was immediately drawn into a world filled with dark corners, patches of moonlight and danger all around. While Dylan had some idea of what to expect from his family’s “curse” that didn’t make his first blackout any easier for he’d thought that it had skipped over him. No such luck. So while fighting this month’s transformation he notices a police cruiser being driven erratically, and a police officer in obvious distress… from her first blackout experience. His instinct is to stay away for he’s trying to avoid the moonlight and detection by others, but watching her helplessly react to the moon’s caress is something he simply cannot turn away from. When he steps in to help this woman his life – and hers – will be forever changed.
While Blackout is a short introduction to the Wolf Moon series it is also an extremely emotional story. We will experience Dylan’s frustration at his curse, the pain of the shift, the discomfort of the feel of moonbeams on his skin. We feel Dana’s confusion, fear and disbelief at what is happening to her as well as her anger and attraction to the man – wolf – who is trying to help her. They make a connection or their beasts do and nothing will ever be the same for them again. All of these emotions flow off of the page until it feels as though I’m right there with Dylan and Dana… and that feeling in a book means I’m going to follow every single story in this series and perhaps beyond. This is why I read Shifter or Paranormal Romance for that intense connection to a story and its characters.
This title was originally published in 2009 and is also a bonus story in Red Wolf – so it is possible that you’ve read this before. If not, then please don’t let the publication year keep you from a thrilling, intense start to a series. Time passes, but great stories are forever. I would highly recommend Blackout and I’m heading over to Amazon to pick up the next story. I’m hooked already.
This novella was supposedly an introductory first installment of a new series, but it lacked something. It is obvious that the author can write, but the restrictions of the Silhouette Bites line led to a lack of emotional connection between myself as a reader and the protagonists. Longer lead-up to give more background would have helped a lot.
Dear readers.... Nocturne has reissued this WOLF MOONS novella and given it a new cover (see the new cover in the "other editions" area. It's reaching bunches of new readers who are hungry for the paranormal, just like I am. I'm thrilled to see each new add and each new review, and offer a big thank you to those of you who read my work. Linda
